Certified instructor description: Three 10-minute segments, each one is carefully focused on a specific body part: abs, buns or thighs. The sequence and duration of each routine is especially designed to maximize results by deeply and fully working every muscle. The abdominal section uses crisp, strong, bold moves to tone your body’s core. The bun exercises often engage multiple muscle groups while the thigh routines have an exceptionally fluid feel (like doing ballet on a mat). Throughout, Ellen Barrett includes lots of modifications and provides easy-to-understand imagery cues (e.g. “pull like there is a pulley attached to the ceiling”). DVD includes a bonus 10-minute total-body workout. ©2002. DVD has: Music only option.

Crunch: Pick Your Spot Pilates

Great add on workout
I really enjoy Ellen and have a lot of her videos. Since I like to exercise for at least an hour, this is a great add on video to complement the 40-45 minutes in most of her other videos. The pilates moves are basic and incorporate all the problem areas. - posted by Maggie on 3/15/2012
The first Pilates workout I enjoyed
I was interested in trying Pilates but discouraged by workouts that I was too overweight or inflexible to complete. The movements in this are gentle and slow, focusing on the inhale and exhale to support each motion. You can select one short segment that works one area of the body or try them all at once. This workout was pleasant and helped me build my strength and confidence to try more. I highly recommend it for beginners. - posted by Tanya on 2/22/2012
I really like this video!
If you are new to Pilates I think this is a decent video to start with. I did the lower body (legs) portion and I could tell the next day that I had worked my legs. Ellen is easy to follow and the segments are long enough to feel the muscle work but not so long that its hard to do. I have lots of other Pilates videos and I like this one! - posted by Yvette on 11/15/2011
Just Okay
I am used to working out with Ellen's "the Studio" series. This one is older, and simply not as polished and professional as her more recent DVDs. I love pilates, so I thought that I would try it out anyway, but I was disappointed. The actual exercises that she chose were good, but I need more warm-up time and I like a slower pace with more reps for pilates work. It was okay, but her Studio series is so much better by comparison, and this just wasn't one that worked for me. Ellen's presentation in this video was very different, too. Not as bubbly and pleasant and self-confident somehow. - posted by Kathy on 11/11/2011
Love Ellen, Maybe I'm Just Not That Into Pilates Floor Work
I love everything that Ellen Barrett does but ... I just think that Pilates floor work is tedious. If I could get more motivated and do it as religiously as I do her other DVDs, I might think a little differently. I like the machines/aparatus -- wish she would come out with a home pilates machine and an aparatus DVD in her Studio Series. Maybe it's limitations imposed by the Crunch folks -- I just didn't like this DVD as much as the other EB programs. I'm going to keep it though -- like a 4 year old and a plate of brussel sprouts -- I know it's good for me. As an aside, I should probably retract at least a little bit of whatever I said re the 10 Minute Pilates tape -- I thought it was the instructor but after looking at this tape and knowing that Ellen is an excellent instructor, I just think that it's me and the Pilates floor work "food group" that just don't agree. - posted by Celeste on 9/1/2011
Ellen Barrett Videos
I love her stuff ... but I already have the studio videos and this one would be better for beginners. - posted by Deb on 6/23/2011
I enjoy this workout
This is a short but enjoyable workout DVD. I like the 'pick your spot' segment. I usually do all three in a row for the 30 minute period. It's quick and easy. The reps are low and don't go on and on endlessly. The instruction is also clear and not overly 'hyped.' - posted by Lisa on 4/27/2011
It's not bad
This video is not bad, not one of my favorites either. It's definitely not very challenging, so if you're a beginner looking for a Pilates video, this one is a good choice. - posted by Kathleen on 3/31/2011
Fun and fast
Years ago I had this routine on VHS tape. I liked it then and still do, except now I'm a lot older and don't do the part that calls for being on the knees (mine are bad). In fact, I used to own many of the Crunch routines because they were lively and fun and usually could be accomplished in less than 40 minutes. Most intermediate exercisers will find this routine pretty easy, but it will limber and stretch you out. I think it's a good before-shower-and-bedtime workout. It's also a look at the early Ellen Barrett, before she became a star instructor with her own Studio series. (I actually like her better here than with all her current patter about "opening up the heart area.") - posted by Kay on 2/17/2011
Good Video and Good Instructor
I love Ellen Barret's Pilates videos. Her cuing is excellent and her manner is warm and welcoming. I use this on the days I want to concentrate on core work and do not do aerobics. It is still work, though, and I still feel as if I've accomplished something. - posted by Marie on 2/10/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
