Time graph for Dance Off the Inches Fat Burning Belly Dance
A surprisingly fast-paced fat-burner that integrates belly dance and Bollywood into traditional aerobic favorites. These total-body exercises are sensuous and fun with genuine heart-rate-raising movements (e.g. not endless, static hip rolls). The exercises range from classic ponies, grapevines and pivots to sexy “snakes,” “sunbursts” and shimmies. Kili Marti’s easy-to-follow instruction is friendly and straight-forward (e.g. “contract your abs and put some lift into your hips,” “come on, ribcage to hipbone!”). It’s all done to upbeat and motivating Middle Eastern instrumental music. DVD includes a 19-minute tutorial that teaches every move. ©2007. DVD has: Chapter menus, Close captions.

Dance Off the Inches Fat Burning Belly Dance

Bollywood workout vibe is a lot of fun!
It's true that this really isn't a belly dance DVD ...however, it has simple to moderately complex bollywood inspired choreography, and I found it be an effective dance fitness video. By effective I mean that I worked up a mild sweat and I had fun learning the moves and routines. I think it's a nice change of pace from traditional aerobic cardio, although there are some traditional cardio moves included, such as marching and grapevines, which the instructor embellishes with arm moves to give the workout a more bollywood flair. Kili Marti explains and demonstrates the moves clearly in the step guide, which I recommend doing prior to the actual workouts. There are three separate dance workouts that each run approximately 15 minutes. I highly recommend this DVD for fun and light dance fitness. - posted by Amy from Mississauga, ON on 8/5/2008
I Dug It!
First, I must point out that the title of this is misleading. Let's blame the title-maker. However, the description on Collage’s site as well as the workout DVD cover are honest in that each description mentions the workout is bellydance-inspired and features some Bollywood & aerobic dance moves. This is accurate. Unfortunately those who gave it bad reviews seemed to have really focused on the title & felt it would be a true bellydance workout. Then, again there’s very little bellydancing in the clip. Thus, many were disappointed when it wasn’t solid bellydancing. So, I’m reviewing this based on the descriptions (more important than a title) and my own experience. First, my background to give you some perspective. I am at the advanced level in my fitness, am quite fit, can handle heavy weights, do high impact work regularly & swing a 20 lb kettle bell. I bought this specifically for those days when I need a less intense, low impact workout or a rest day. This was perfect. The music is great, Kili’s instruction is flawless (to me), the creativity was up there and the combos seemed to get harder in intensity. In fact, while working out in my chilly living room, my sports bra & undies were soaked. I was stunned. My wish is that folks really pay attn to the descriptions & the clip instead of the title. If you’re looking for an Eastern-inspired workout, this one is good. I actually like this one better than the other pure bellydance fitness and Bollywood DVDs I’ve had and given away. The only thing I would've loved to have seen is if Kili had woven all 3 combos together at the end & ran through them a couple of times. That would've been an exercise for the mind! This workout served its purpose with me. - posted by Latarsha on 7/8/2008
Fun!
The title of this is misleading as there is very little belly dancing in it. Having said that, I thought this was fun. I'm no dancer but I could follow the steps and feel like a dancer. I thought the instructor cued well and the music is great. I wish all dance videos had great music like this. I'm very glad I bought this. I have fun and work up a nice sweat doing this. - posted by Lara on 6/30/2008
ay yay yay!
I loved this! excellent aerobics and fun! not true bellydance, and who cares???? terrific music and very good cueing. - posted by Bertha on 6/17/2008
Yes it is bad
I love bellydance workouts and take bellydance classes sometimes too. I think if this was a workout not with the word bellydance in the title it would have been a different standard to review. I think it is false advertising with the title. By itself it is just kinda ok, but it is not bellydance just like others here said already. It is not intermediate either. It is beginner and not challenging or fun. I did like the music, it was good. It was not bellydance. It was not fun. It was not challenging. - posted by Lau Lei on 5/30/2008
Nice light fun workout
This is not your hard core, Cathe, Taebo or Firm workout. It is a nice light fun workout. Great for those just starting to workout & those who are recovering from illness. Perfect low impact workout. I myself enjoy more hardcore workouts but there are days I just don't want to do anything & this dvd is great for those days. I give it 5 stars, it is what it is. Good music, instructor was right on, I broke a sweat & had fun the other star is for the bad reviews this dvd got. - posted by T. Stephens on 5/29/2008
Loved It!
I was hesitant to try this video after reading the bad reviews, but I just tried it and I thought it was great. I have tried other bellydance workouts in the past that didn't even make me break a sweat once, but this video was fast paced, fun and a great workout, I am still sweating. I would like to add that I am a regular exerciser and still found it challenging. The choreography was fairly simple and easy to follow and it didn't have the "cheese factor" that a lot of other dance videos seem to have. I highly recommend it! - posted by Jennie on 5/27/2008
Regrettably, I must agree that it is not very good
I feel the 2 star review was being generous. I am a dancer, have performed on stage many times, am an experienced exerciser, and so on... This workout is not bellydance. Nothing of the sort. It is bollywood and almost all bollywood at that which is fine if you want bollywood. It is not a workout. It is a no sweat day workout if you do not want to work and just want to move like the first reviewer mentioned. I personally did not find the instructor likeable so the other reviewer was being kind in giving a star for the likeability of the instructor. The music was ok so I give it 1 star for that. Save your money. - posted by Kelilah on 5/21/2008

I really waited to buy this due to the bad review, but when no other reviews were submitted I went for it. It is very good! I love Bellydance and have several different Bellydance tapes. I enjoyed the nice fusion of the two, and having no experience with "Bollywood", it actually peeked my interest to try to find more DVD's like that. It is very fun, a good instructor, unique from other workouts and I DID feel my heart rate rise. I am a frequent exerciser and Yoga Instructor so my heart rate rising is not due to inactivity. I would recommend it, I think anyone, beginner to intermediate would find it fun, easy and enjoyable. I am giving it five stars because I feel bad for the 2 star review and really feel like it didn't deserve the "bashing" it got from the previous reviewer. - posted by Lori on 5/14/2008
Avoid at all costs !
I was able to get a copy of this early & I have to say it is by far one of the worst workouts I've got in my collection. The title of this is very misleading. There is nothing to very little belly dance about it. Yes, the back cover says it is a fusion of bollywood style dancing & bellydance, but in truth it is all bollywood with maybe a few undulations thrown in. It's a very boring routine to boot. I wouldn't even rate it at a beginner level for intensity. It's not very challenging & is not likely to get your heartrate up. The back cover specifically says this is a fun workout. I kept wondering when the fun would begin. Ugh. I gave this 2 stars, 1 star for each good thing to mention. The music is good. Very original compared to many other fitness DVDs on the market. The instructor is really good. I like her personality & she cues very well. It's unfortunate that she appeared in such a bad workout. If you like bollywood dancing & don't want to do much of a workout this is for you. If you want to actually make use of your workout time, and you want a bellydance workout that is ACTUALLY a bellydance workout or a true fusion of bellydance & bollywood, this is one to avoid. - posted by Melissa S. on 4/23/2008
Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
