Time graph for Denise Austin's Blast Away Indoor Walk
An easy-to-follow walking-style workout that’s energized by Denise’s friendly enthusiasm (“don’t worry, you can do it!”). All the moves are ultra-basic: simple marches, hops, kicks and side-to-sides. Each 15-minute (one mile walk) section features a different technique. “Easy Walk” is a very beginner program, perfect to get you started. “Interval Walk” includes more wide-ranging moves plus faster-paced bursts. “Walk & Tone” incorporates dumbbells to boost intensity as you tone your arms. It all ends with a great stretch. DVD lets you play any or all of the segments. 1 to 3 lb. dumbbells are optional in last segment. ©2005. DVD has: Programmable chapters, Region 1.

Denise Austin's Blast Away Indoor Walk

Love it! Very happy with workout.
I started using Denise's workouts years ago in college. I stopped using them for a long time...just not in my rotation. I purchased this workout after my son was born but just got to it now (he is 3) and I just love it! I am going to buy several more of her workouts! It was fun and very creative! - posted by Christie on 1/14/2010
Surprisingly good workout!
Like others, I tried Leslie DVDs and enjoyed them. I consider myself intermediate/advanced, but I can't operate that way ALL the time! This is where Denise comes in handy. I like how she has some moves Leslie doesn't offer. She has the same upbeat and encouraging personality, but the pace/style is different, so this is definitely worth a try! I find this to be worth a shot for all fitness levels. - posted by Molly on 10/31/2009
Good workout
I have learned over time there is the need to switch up training methods between high & low intensity. I love walking DVD's, because I am choreography-challenged. Unfortunately there are not enough high-quality walking DVD's on the market. I love Leslie S., but I have enough of her style. Therefore, I have to end buying DVD's I don't necessarily want to buy, but it gives my body the variety it needs. This DVD fits the bill, but it has some negatives such as bad cuing, some incorrect body movement, and non-existing music, etc. The positives, such as my heart rate increased(2nd & 3rd miles), incorporated using light weights, and a good stretch. Not a bad choice. It goes into my rotation as a light cardio day. - posted by old lady on 10/1/2009
Love this workout!
This workout is great because it is has three fifteen minute miles - you can do one, two, or all three miles, and it has a wonderful 10 minute stretch. Its a nice variation from Leslie's walks and Denise is so encouraging and enjoyable. Leslie does not offer much stretching like this one. The stretch is so great I like to do it after other workouts. You can intensify this workout with weighted gloves and ankle weights. Its nice to see the different moves she does from Leslie, even though both offer basic walking workouts. Denise is excellent in this one! - posted by Cheryl on 9/2/2009
Pretty Decent Workout
This is a good alternative to Leslie Sansone. The best part of the program was part 2 and part 3. - posted by Marie on 8/12/2009
Pretty Good for a moderate workout!
I did the full workout today and I while I can't say this will be a favorite Denise DVD, I will say that it was a pretty good workout! Her cueing isn't as "off" as other DVDs, so for some that might help as that is a common complaint. I really love Denise, but will agree that Leslie's walking DVDs are a bit more upbeat as far as pace goes. I did sweat doing this workout, especially during the last 2 miles. I would agree that mile one is more of a warmup pace, but adding some ankle weights or weighted gloves to your workout will bump up the intensity. While I am a little disappointed as I was so excited to get this in the mail, it's still a good workout. It won't be used as often as her other DVDs or Leslie's walking DVDs, but it will get some use. It's good for a change of pace and instructor. Good sweat factor, friendly instructor, good stage background. - posted by Julia on 5/1/2009
Nice walk for cold days
I enjoyed this workout! I live in an area with long winters and I love having this workout to get in a nice long walk. I do all three workouts to log 3 miles and then enjoy the 10 min. stretch afterward. I think other reviewers have been too hard on Denise. It is a walking routine after all. Sure- she's off beat at times and loses her place but so what- it makes her human. And like others said, turn up your music and follow along.I am a firm believer that you get what you put into it. Same is true for this workout. I consider myself intermediate to advanced and I still broke a bit of a sweat. It's a great option for those just starting to exercise or for those active rest days. I'm glad to have it in my collection. - posted by Meredith on 3/1/2009
Great beginner walking routine
This is the first work out DVD I have owned and it is still my favorite. I went from a non exerciser to a moderate one. I like the weight/walking section and the ability to combine different workouts in one seamless hour or break it up us as my time allows. Over the first year my stamina and tone have increased greatly. Denise is very encouraging. However, like a previous reviewer I now turn off the sound and put on the radio. I do this for any exercise DVD as after a couple viewings to maintain interest. - posted by Holly on 1/22/2009
It's Not Bad, but...
While I really like Denise, I have mixed feelings about this workout. I like the walking, but can Denise get the beat of the music? At times I felt like I was on one beat and she on another. I can't stand off beat exercising! I really like the stretch at the end. I do this one, but not as much as Leslie's walking workouts. - posted by Paula on 1/12/2009
Leslie Sansone all the way
Don't waste your money.....buy Leslie Sansone's "Walk Slim Series". After all she is the Queen of the walking platform...and you will get a much better workout. - posted by Martha on 5/4/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Programmable chapters
X
At the beginning of your workout, you can select the exact segments you want to play that day. The DVD will then play all those segments in the order you chose.
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
