Certified instructor description: A variety of familiar exercises in convenient seven-minute sections. The DVD can be programmed to play the segments in any order (so each workout can be precisely matched to your preferences and goals). Two of the segments are cardio. Level 1 is a basic low-impact fat-burner; level 2 adds higher-impact/higher-intensity jumps, kicks and dumbbell moves. You also get two choices of total-body toning. Level 1 uses your own body weight while level 2 incorporates faster-paced, weight-training exercises. The final three segments are body-part-targeted: upper, lower and abs/core. Denise's cuing carefully demos the techniques while also emphasizing the benefits (“great for sexy arms!”). Requires 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2012. DVD has: Programmable chapters, Music only option, Close captions, Region 1.

Denise Austin's Fit in a Flash

I love it
I have always liked Denise Austin's workouts. Her workouts build up faster as you go. This one was perfect. I'm a intermediate/advanced level but stay with intermediate lower impact to protect my joints. I never get bored. And Denise is encouraging and kind. She can be funny too. My Husband said I feel firm and tiny when he hugs me. I love that. It's because of doing my Denise Austin workouts. - posted by Margie on 6/14/2013
Best workout ever (really!)
I've been using this workout exclusively for a few weeks now and the results have been fantastic. I had given up on weight training for a while, focusing on yoga and pilates, but began putting on weight, so decided to ramp it up a bit. I've been doing the Level 2 Cardio and Level 2 Total Body sections, along with the sections for upper body, lower body, and abs three-times per week. It takes only about 35 minutes, works everything thoroughly, and is also a fantastic aerobic workout. It's fun, too, because the segments are short and varied. Because there are few repetitions of each exercise, I recommend using heavier weights. I've been using 8 lbs. - posted by Leah on 4/18/2013
Lots of variety, challenging, but with no dread
I've used this workout twice now, doing the whole thing rather than breaking it into segments. I was thrilled to find that I felt thoroughly worked out from head to toe, including aerobically. Plus there was so much variation, from weight training to ballet and yoga moves to kettlebell swings. Nothing was so difficult that I dread doing it again; it was actually fun and time went by quickly due to the variety. Just what I've been looking for. I can see that breaking it up into shorter segments on busy days will be useful as well. High marks to Denise Austin on this one... - posted by Wendy on 3/28/2013
I love Fit in a Flash
I have always liked Denise Austin. This DVD is one of my favorites. I like to pick the segments I want to do and then do them. This DVD is always fun and a bit of a challenge at times. This morning I did 5 of the segments and I feel energized and strong. I love the total body toning segments as well as the arms, legs and abs. Those are the five that I did this morning. I have done the entire DVD at one time when I have the time and I enjoy every minute of it! - posted by Susan on 3/14/2013
Denise austin is so inspiring..
I love this fit in a flash workout because it fits perfectly in my busy life. I am a mother of 3 kids and her exercises are so effective .. I have lost weight and inches. Denise is always enthusiastic which is why I love her. Just putting in this DVD makes me feel good about myself because of her positive attitude that you get when you workout with her. Love it ... - posted by Carol on 1/27/2013

Great Mix!
I am surprised by the negative reviews, I actually liked Ms. Austin's new DVD. I have a few others (Boot Camp, Hot Body Yoga), so I am familiar with D.A's style. I think this one is probably my new favorite. Are some of the exercises similar to moves in her other DVDs, some yes, are some of the moves challenging, YES! I think Denise does a great job incorporating multiple muscle groups in each exercise. I really felt the core getting a workout through the ENTIRE DVD. My favorite segment was the lower body portion. I just loved the ballet-inspired moves. While the DVD features 7 separate workouts, I choose to do them all back to back. In the 58 minutes, I burned close to 600 calories, which I assume would have been higher had I been more familiar with the moves. The moves are not high impact at all, and if proper attention is paid to form, they don't cause any pain or discomfort. The calorie burn I got is similar to what I get when doing higher impact workouts within the similar time frame (i.e. Turbojam, Turbofire, Chalean Extreme). Now while this DVD certainly will not replace my other programs I do, it is certainly great for a day that I don't want to push myself to the edge, or want a little variety. I will be recommending it to all my fitness friends! - posted by Janessa Butterfield on 1/6/2013
Way too hard for me!
This workout was a Christmas present from my hubby, that I ordered. It is listed as beginner/intermediate but I am 63 years old with back problems and fibormyalgia and most beginner/intermediate workouts I can do, but this one I could not do about 50% of the moves without serious modifications! It did not show the really hard moves in the clip either. It should be listed at intermediate/advanced! - posted by Sue on 12/27/2012

Not great!
Not crazy about this DVD. It's strange, I find that Denise's cueing is getting better but her workouts lack intensity, good music, etc.... - posted by Silvia on 12/20/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Programmable chapters
X
At the beginning of your workout, you can select the exact segments you want to play that day. The DVD will then play all those segments in the order you chose.
Music only option
X
This feature allows you to play only the music, without any cuing (after you’ve learned the movements and you just want to do the workout without listening to the instruction).
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Aerobics & Toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
