Time graph for Denise Austin's Hit the Spot Pilates

A variety of well-cued Pilates moves in seven distinct body-part-focused segments. You get three complete ab routines plus a hips, thighs, buns and total body series. This DVD lets you play them all, or personalize your workout by showing them in any sequence. The abdominal floorwork is progressive — part one features Pilates basics while part three uses the more advanced routines (with each section smoothly building on the one before). The other four segments use a blend of both matwork and Pilates-style standing exercises to target specific body parts (while always continuing to engage the core muscles). As usual, Denise’s energy and enthusiasm are ultra-motivating. ©2005. DVD has: Programmable chapters, Music only option, Region 1.

Denise Austin's Hit the Spot Pilates

Great Pilates for the Lower Half!
This Pilates workout DVD is perfect for me. I am a beginner to exercise and am very heavy so I needed to use Pilates for shaping my lower body with easy moves that never the less are effective and was/is super fun that will keep me motivated and coming back for more. This workout does not disappoint. In fact I have been doing just one of the 10 minute Pilates workouts for the Hips, Thighs, and Buns every other day (w/ the additions of Denise’s': Fat-Burning Dance Mix Jazz, Latin, & Club routines; Personal Training System Low Intensity Upper Body & Low Intensity Lower Body; and Get Fit Fast Level 1 Upper Body and Get Fit Fast Level 1 Abs) and I workout every day for 20 minutes and in 6 weeks of using the combination of these Denise Austin workout DVD’s have successfully lost 30 pounds! I cannot believe how fast I saw BIG results and I know that these Pilates workouts have made a huge difference. I mean I can feel muscle developing in my legs. It is an awesome feeling to know that my hard work is paying off in a positive way. I would recommend this workout DVD to anyone who wants to get the results that Pilates has to offer. Even beginners that are heavy will get results. The Ab segments were all too hard for me to do at this time and so is the Pilates Challenge so I guess that makes this workout an intermediate workout. But I do have one tip for true beginners to Pilates and it is this…if there is a move that you know you cannot do just stand up and do normal squats and plies until the instructor moves to a different exercise. That way you are still working your lower body and you are building stamina so that one day you can do those Pilates moves (for the lower body) that are too hard for you right now. I am completely satisfied with this Pilates workout. I HIGHLY recommend! - posted by Emily on 11/8/2009
Very Effective!
I have to say this is my favorite Pilates DVD! Denise does not waste time between exercises, but does remind you about your form to keep you on track. I have done all the segments except for the last one, due to feeling like I've really had a great workout from just the 6! She works you hard and even has incorporated a few exercises I've never seen before! This is my first Denise DVD and now have ordered her Yoga Burn, I hope it is a good as this one! - posted by Lenore on 3/24/2009
GREAT TONING EXERCISES!
I love this video. I bought it almost 4 years ago (after the freshman 15) and I slowly built up to doing multiple exercises a day. I noticed a difference in how I felt after just 1 week and noticed a difference in the way I looked after 2 weeks. Abs and Waistline is my favorite, it is challenging but gets easier as you do it more. I also enjoy the pilates challenge if I feel like breaking a good sweat. I highly recommend this video to anyone who is just starting out and anyone who simply wants to tone up and lose some inches! - posted by Mallory on 2/21/2009
"let's trim and tone that tummy"
after reading the reviews i bought the dvd. i like that you can customize the workout but denise kind of drives me nuts with her emphasis on 'trimming and toning' to fit into shorts or whatever, rather than on focusing on us being just strong women, like cathe friedrich does. i guess that's her audience's goal, though. overall i do enjoy the workouts and find my core (including my lower back!) hurts (in a good way) the next day or so. - posted by jay on 1/9/2009
Extremely Difficult
This was one of the most challenging pilates work-out I ever tried. This is should be under the advance level. - posted by Karen on 11/29/2008
Fast paced but good
This DVD is a little fast paced and as usual Denise doesnt give any breathing pointers but I really like it. You dont have time to get bored and it really works you. I felt this in my abs for several days after. If you are someone who know the breathing and good form I think you would really like the fast pace and different moves of this one. - posted by Chris on 11/6/2008
This is my favourite pilates workout
OK -- I'm one of those people that just can't handle Denise's voice/peppy approach ... but nonetheless she has done an outstanding job with this DVD. It's my favourite pilates workout -- lots of variety in the routines and also in the sets/background. The settings are so beautiful they really enhance the workout. I'm an intermediate-advanced exerciser so I tried doing the whole thing in one shot(75 minutes). I found that to be quite tough so now just do an hour. If you like Denise, you'll love this DVD ... if you're not a Denise fan you will still have no regrets in getting it! - posted by AB44 on 8/28/2008
Too fast paced for me.
I love all of Denise's other Pilates workouts so I'm surprised to say I don't like this one. I tried and re-tried the lower body segments a few times now and though the moves are all good and pretty much similar/same to other pilates workouts I enjoy, I find Denise moves too fast here so I feel like I'm just trying to keep up with the frantic pace and because of that I'm not feeling my muscles working... at all. It's otherwise a lovely workout, just too fast paced for me so I decided I won't use it anymore. Had the pace been slower to get the muscles engaged I'm sure I would have given it 5 stars. - posted by J. on 7/12/2008
Very enjoyable workout
I thought this was a great workout by Denise. Usually I think her dvds are too easy for an intermediate/advanced exerciser, but I did this today and I can already really feel it working in my core and legs/buns areas. I also usually think pilates is rather boring and moves slowly, but this workout moves right along to keep things interesting. Denise changes the exercises quickly without over-explaining each move for a nice, diverse workout. I thought it was challenging and enjoyable. The set is beautiful. - posted by Shelley on 4/13/2008
The more I do it, the more I love it.
I'm growing to love this DVD more and more. I find that I'm looking forward to the days I do this one. I did read some reviews complaining about her chatty-ness. I've done many of her workouts and sometimes that is true, but not on this one. She is very precise with her instructions. I love that you can program the workouts to fit your schedule. This morning I did 4-10 minute workouts. Some days I do 3. Each time I do these workouts I gain more strength. And I absolutely love the location! This DVD and her "Personal Trainer" DVD are excellent. - posted by Kathy on 3/11/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
