Certified instructor description: Blends the excitement and energy of a gospel concert with the fitness benefits of a total-body workout. It’s a lively, “feel good” format that really works — Donna’s skillful cuing is carefully integrated with motivating live performances by Christian music superstars like Kirk Franklin, Shirley Murdock and Yolanda Adams (“Let Us Worship Christ”). Featuring exercisers of all sizes and shapes, it’s very easy to follow (the emphasis is on movement and fun, not complicated dance choreography). The program is divided into three sections: fat-burning cardio, Pilates/strength and stretch — you can do them separately or all together. Excellent production, great music. ©2004. Note: This 2004 production is a completely different program than Donna’s earlier video with the identical title. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Donna Richardson's Sweating in the Spirit

Happy Feet
I like the workout but the instructor is too loud. I like her, but it's like she's yelling the instructions at you. It would be great if she was less loud. The workout is good and fun and not too hard. Like the Christian videos wish there were more. - posted by Sherry on 12/15/2011
Awesome!
I have to admit when i first popped in the dvd, i thought i could never keep up with that! I watched it about 2-3 times, then i was moving right with them. My hat is off to the visionary! - posted by Bernetta on 12/5/2011
Shipping speedy
First time I have did business with collage. The shipping was here quicker than expected. They also kept me very informed as the progress of my shipment. I will do further business with in the future. I purchased Sweating in the Spirit by Donna Richardson for my womens group for my church we are enjoying this purchase. Thanks God Bless!!! - posted by Debra on 3/10/2011
Infectious
I really enjoyed this workout. It will become my rest day, early Sunday morning before church routine. While I found the workout to be not as intense as I would have liked, the music was uplifting and the workout was just plain fun. I can't wait for Sunday to roll around so that I can do it again! - posted by Patricia on 6/21/2010
Got Me Movin'
I recently rented your sweating in the spirit video to get my work out on. I watched it 2x's before I decided to get up off the couch. The moves are good, and I could hardly keep up in the beginning but I'm hanging in there now. I can honestly say that I have been sweating in the spirit 5 times a week for 3 weeks now. I want to thank you for getting me off the couch. Much Love and keep doing His work. God Bless You and Tom :-) - posted by Kelli on 12/13/2007

A little confusing but fun anyway
This workout is not without flaw, but Donna is so infectious I can't help but like it. I do have trouble keeping up with the choreography in one spot - I think it is the triplet step - but when this happens I just dance around and don't worry about it. This tape really encourages that attitude for me. I have yet to do the toning segments. Aside from Donna, the highlight of the tape is really the music - it is so great to have real songs instead of vague cardio-elevator beats! - posted by Katy on 4/16/2007
INSPIRING!
I love eveything about this video. It will inspire you as well as motivate you to keep on doing it. I feel good after this video. It is an excellent way to start your day. After three weeks I've already began seeing results. Good job Donna. The music is great!!! - posted by Chrisie on 4/26/2005
Not so great.
The music is wonderful but the cuing is poor. Donna looks fab and the moves look like they would be a blast to do BUT if you are working out on carpet...not so smooth. I wish this DVD was easier for the beginner, but I'll keep on moving til I get the groovin! - posted by Rene' on 3/30/2005
An Okay Workout
I originally bought the tape for my mom who is restarting her exercise program. Eventhough the tape is classified as a beginner workout, both my mom and I felt that the tape was a bit too advanced for her fitness level. I recently did the tape and found it to be an okay workout especially for days when you really do not feel up to doing a workout that is hard. The best thing about the tape is the music. I give it 2.5 out of 5.0 stars. - posted by Marie on 1/18/2005
Frustrating and poorly cued
I did not like this workout at all. The cuing was terrible, the movements changed before she cued them and before I could even grasp what she was trying to say, let alone do! The only positive thing I can say about this workout is that the music was beautifully performed. This was my first Donna Richardson video and it will be my last. I feel that the other reviewers of this video and I are reviewing two different workouts because I just don't see how anyone, particularly a beginner, could view this tape without becoming frustrated by the lack of cohesiveness and instruction. - posted by Charma on 11/21/2004

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
