Certified instructor description: It starts with Pilates-inspired standing moves and ends with traditional Pilates matwork. Brooke Siler’s cuing is exceptionally detailed; she emphasizes the tiny subtleties that make Pilates unique (breath, mindfulness, core focus). The result is a lean, firm, flexible body. The standing segment warms your muscles and gets the blood flowing. It integrates Pilates-style muscle control into familiar toning moves like lunges and squats. The matwork section is pure Pilates — classics like “the hundred,” “teaser” and “roll-up.” It’s all filmed in a beautiful outdoor setting — an oceanside garden edged with flowers. ©2008. Element: Pilates Weight Loss for Beginners

She is the best instructor bar none
I have 300 exercise DVDs and she is always the one I come back to for strength and to keep limber. I need to find where I can order more of her workouts! - posted by Saundra on 2/5/2013
Basic Pilates Moves with Small Reps
When I first got this DVD I only did it after I got home from a run so I was not sure how it would rate as a stand-alone workout. It is what the title says about Pilates for Beginners. It incorporates many basic pilates moves and only a few reps of each. It is a good DVD for me because I do need to improve the use of my powerhouse vs. using my other muscles (roll-ups, etc) and using momentum. Brooke is a good instructor. This DVD is done differently in that she is not speaking during the filming. The instructions are all voice-over. For Pilates breathing that makes sense. You may find it boring because it is a bit slow but it is also relaxing and a nice workout. Good for light days. - posted by Karen on 12/16/2012
Well balanced is key
I have used a varied amount of exercise videos in my life, but I have to say, element's pilates for beginners is a winner for me. I tend to love stretching and forms of pilates and yoga and element's pilates has a wonderful flow of transition from standing and stretching to floor exercises, plus the instructor Brooke Siler is very calming and has a delicate way in presenting the exercises in a cohesive way where confusion isn't a factor. The only down side I have with the video is there wasn't enough focus on different parts of the body but there were plenty of areas to focus on such as the quads, hamstrings, and buns which is paramount in pilates. I would have liked if they had some exercises focusing on the calf muscles since they are part of the lower powerhouse of the body. Other than that it was a wonderful dvd, and something I will be using often for a long time. - posted by Lisa on 9/3/2012
Nice for a light day
The cues that this instructor gives are excellent. And her form and figure speak to the effectiveness of Pilates. I would rate this as "advanced beginner." You can do the standing or floor Pilates either separately or together. The moves are classic Pilates, nothing fancy. As with all the Element DVD's, the setting is beautiful and the production quality is top notch. Beginning or occasional Pilates students should be happen with this workout. - posted by Mary Anne on 7/27/2012
Not Easy
I have found that this video is not easy even for a beginner. I am getting better, but it is challenging. It will work muscles you think you never had. - posted by Cyndy on 9/29/2011
Saturday Pilates
I ordered this DVD for my Saturday Pilates-I do very heavy weight workouts on Fridays, so I use Saturday (Pilates) and Sunday (Yoga) to relax and stretch out sore/tired muscles. This workout is simple, gentle, and calming. The music is great, and the flow smooth. Brooke has a nice pitch to her voice, so is easy to follow. The moves are basic, but would be good for a beginner, or for winding down like I use it. It is definitely a fine addition to my library. - posted by Melinda on 8/4/2011
not for beginners!
It was not a workput for beginners - I had done pilates before and this workout was so intense I felt physically sick afterward - since then I have found other pilates workouts that were challenging but were able to be done. - posted by Gwen on 11/4/2010
Nice to begin Plates.
Hi! It's wonderful location let me feel comfortable to practice this workout. Though I'm a beginner to Pilates, I wish I'm able to follow it freely. - posted by Sinja on 4/22/2010
For beginners only
I agree with Heather who said this is a beginner's workout. I must be more skilled at Pilates than I give myself credit for, because as an intermediate Pilates practitioner I hardly felt I had worked out at all. But I can't fault the DVD - Brooke's cueing is excellent and the setting is stunning. (I kept fantasizing that was my garden!) If you are new to Pilates, this would be great, but if you are more advanced you'll want something more challenging. - posted by RedPanda on 4/23/2009
Excellent
This has the best description/explanation of each pilates move that I've ever seen on DVD. - posted by Jamie on 3/18/2009
