Time graph for Element Pilates Weight Loss for Beginners
It starts with Pilates-inspired standing moves and ends with traditional Pilates matwork. Brooke Siler’s cuing is exceptionally detailed; she emphasizes the tiny subtleties that make Pilates unique (breath, mindfulness, core focus). The result is a lean, firm, flexible body. The standing segment warms your muscles and gets the blood flowing. It integrates Pilates-style muscle control into familiar toning moves like lunges and squats. The matwork section is pure Pilates — classics like “the hundred,” “teaser” and “roll-up.” It’s all filmed in a beautiful outdoor setting — an oceanside garden edged with flowers. ©2008. Element Pilates Weight Loss for Beginners

For beginners only
I agree with Heather who said this is a beginner's workout. I must be more skilled at Pilates than I give myself credit for, because as an intermediate Pilates practitioner I hardly felt I had worked out at all. But I can't fault the DVD - Brooke's cueing is excellent and the setting is stunning. (I kept fantasizing that was my garden!) If you are new to Pilates, this would be great, but if you are more advanced you'll want something more challenging. - posted by RedPanda on 4/23/2009
Excellent
This has the best description/explanation of each pilates move that I've ever seen on DVD. - posted by Jamie on 3/18/2009
Beginner Pilates
I usually do intermediate workouts.. sometimes advanced, but this DVD was way too slow for me. I shut it off and put something else in because I felt like I wasn't getting much of a workout. Seems like a good workout to learn pilates but not for anyone with experience.. - posted by Heather on 3/15/2009
Beautiful Workout
Brooke Siler doesn't appear to be cashing in on the latest exercise craze like so many other instructors do. She is a second generation Pilates teacher, and that aspect shines through in this workout. Long, lean muscles are totaly acheivable...without the gimmicks. Simple, beautiful, but most of all effective. Who could ask for more in a workout? - posted by Karen on 3/3/2009
Great introduction to pilates
This is my favorite pilates workout. Brooke Siler gives excellent instruction and uses great examples to help you imagine a technique. For example, for the "rolling like a ball" she says "imagine you are inside a soap bubble and try not to burst it." I have a few of the Mari Winsor videos and they are great technically but a bit stiff. The location is beautiful and the music is enjoyable. Highly recommend if you are starting out with pilates. - posted by Mary on 2/28/2009
Solid Pilates Workout with First Rate Instructor
When I do this workout I feel like I'm in a personal training session. Brooke Siler is a first-rate instructor and this is a great beginner or intermediate workout. I think my pilates practice has improved from the cuing and information on the DVD. Gorgeous setting, soothing while still working you. Great workout! - posted by Elaine on 11/25/2008
Great pilates for anyone
I am not a huge pilates fan but love the results I am getting so I tried this one. I am a little surprised by the beginner rating/title. I think you would love this one even if you were an intermediate. I am fairly beginnerish with Pilates but not working out and this one was a little tough for me. It has beautiful scenery, great pointers and some new moves I havent seen in other pilates DVD's. This is a must have for me. - posted by Chris on 11/6/2008
Solid Intermediate Pilates dvd -- Loved it!!
If you're hesitating to order this dvd because it says it's for beginners, ignore the title (and Collage evaluation). It moves at the same pace and has as many challenging Pilates exercises as any other Intermediate Pilates dvd I've done. Brooke doesn't stop to set up or explain the moves like you see in Beginner Pilates dvds, but her cues and imagery are clear enough to help all learn what they should be doing. -- Brooke a perfect Pilates instructor. The standing work feels great -- the mat work is plentiful. Brooke always shows how we're working from the waist. I usually don't like doing Pilates workouts that are over 1/2 hour, but I enjoyed every one of those 51 minutes learning Pilates from Brooke. - posted by Renee on 9/30/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
