Certified instructor description: Both programs feature classic yoga poses led by a friendly and skilled instructor. Even the setting is relaxing; you’re exercising in a tranquil garden overlooking the Pacific ocean. Each workout uses carefully chosen techniques/poses designed to achieve a specific goal. The flexibility series includes short sequences of deep stretches and flowing, rhythmic movements. The stress relief workout holds the poses longer while focusing on mental serenity (“recognize what open-ness feels like”). The programs also emphasize conscious breathing — both to make the movements more effective and to help you achieve the correct pacing. ©2010. DVD has: Wide screen, Close captions, Region 1.

Element: Yoga for Stress Relief & Flexibility

Beautiful yet challenging workout
I love the background of this video. I can close my eyes and picture myself in those surroundings. The flexibility part is quite challenging for someone who has not done yoga for more than 25 yrs however after the 3 days that I've done it, I can feel that there's a difference in the way I hold my tense muscles, it feels like a good needed stretch. I will continue with this workout to challenge myself and gain back the flexibility that I've lost. - posted by Eden on 2/16/2012
cant do this, will return it.
I played this today, to try the flexibility program. At 60, I do housecleaning and drive a schoolbus. It is very well presented, she is clear and easy to listen to. But I cannot do those poses, even her opening moves, right at the beginning. I have issues with a tight lower back, hips and her moves are way too much for me. Obviously, I have to use 'beginners' yoga flexibility workouts instead. - posted by vanessa on 10/22/2011
Interesting approach and commentary
The "Element" videos are filmed at a So. Cal location to die for, and I'm not sure if that adds or detracts. The two workouts get progressively harder. I am a rank beginner, very stressed, very stiff and 66 years old, so it is very challenging. However, I find the instructor very genuine and she presents things in a good way, so I want to continue. I also do (as opposed to several other commenters) like the way she wiggles and adjusts herself. It gives me permission to adjust to what is good for me. She touches on the spiritual aspect, but doesn't get all superior about it. - posted by SB on 9/23/2011
Well worth the time & money
This is a great video. The 30 minutes for stress is great after a long day, and the flexibility poses are presented in a progressive way so the DVD doesn't get old too quick. The instructor is explicit and her voice is perfect. I would highly recommend this for anyone who has a tight body from office work! - posted by Fran on 8/25/2011
Definitely a stress buster.
Let me start by saying I am not a big fan of downward facing dog & a few other poses in yoga. I do love the stress relief segment because it definitely forces you to relax & focuses alot on deep breathing. No moves that are too difficult & always shows variations for each if you're not as limber as the guide. Once I'm in better shape I hope to learn to love the flexibility segment as well!! - posted by Angel on 6/16/2011
yoga for stress and flexibilty
thoroughly enjoy the workout. I love the fact it was not traditional well worth buying - posted by kara hill on 3/29/2011
Love this video
I thoroughly enjoy this workout, especially the stress relief portion. I had no idea chanting OM could really release as much tension as it does :) - posted by Meg on 3/25/2011
Great stress reliever
I like this video. It is not a traditional yoga video, i.e. with traditional yoga poses so do not buy it thinking you will be doing downward facing dogs and brave warrior poses. In fact, the stress relief segment is done completely on the mat while sitting. But I do like to do the workout when I am stressed or feeling sore. The emphasis is on breathing, stretching and generally destressing. The instructor is soothing and likable. - posted by Robin on 3/24/2011
Works very well for me
Both the stress relief and flexibility workouts are very well done. I seriously appreciate the fact the instructor is not doing the commentary while presenting the poses, but is commenting in the background. Very effective and not distracting. - posted by Jo-Ann on 3/3/2011
not my favorite
I didn't prefer the instructor or the program. The smiling, sticking out the tongue, etc was just distracting to me and counterproductive for my stress relief. I returned it. - posted by Lynn on 2/22/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
