Certified instructor description: A flowing mix of graceful dance, gentle toning and simple balance exercises (all with a strong focus on purposeful breathing). It really is a “peaceful” approach to building flexibility and strength. The moves are mostly familiar favorites like lunges and bicep curls. But Ellen performs them in exceptionally fluid sequences, smoothly transitioning from one position to the next. They often incorporate functional fitness exercises — multi-muscle routines that include bends, twists and stretches. While most of the moves are beginner-level, Ellen slightly boosts the intensity with lots of reps and some one-leg balancing positions. Requires 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2012. DVD has: Chapter menus, Region 1.

Ellen Barrett's Sleek Sculpt Express

Best Ellen workout - fun and effective
I've just begun working out with Ellen's DVDs over the past year or so. Sleek Sculpt Express is my favorite. It's quick, I only have about 30 minutes in the mornings to work out and it does the job. By the end, I am drenched in sweat, my arms are vibrating and I just feel invigorated. I love all her DVDs, but this is my favorite. Even though it's called "Express," she doesn't rush through the workout. It's an energetic 30 minutes; I use it once or twice a week. - posted by Uma on 5/23/2013
What was Ellen thinking?
Might have been a good workout if you could hear Ellen over the loud yelling suppose to be background music. Couldn't make it through the first few seconds. Sent it back! - posted by Angie on 5/17/2013
Ellen Barrett is one of my favorites!
This is similar to her other sculpting dvd's but I like that it is a little shorter for days when I'm busy. My husband and I did this dvd together and our legs were so sore the next day! We say that Ellen is sneaky with her calm cuing and sweet smile and then she kills you with a ton of repetitions~the weights definitely make the arm moves more challenging! - posted by Michele on 5/10/2013
Really enjoyed this video
Great workout. I was able to use the weights for the first ten minutes. I plan to keep doing the workout to increase the number of minutes using the weights. I liked the instructor she is very encouraging without being annoying. Also working out barefoot is great. - posted by Sheila on 5/9/2013
Feel it in my arms!
I like this video. I just did it for the first time with 3-lb weights and my arms are feeling it. There's one segment where I had to take a break but I think the more I do the DVD the better I'll get. I like Ellen's teaching style too. - posted by Kate on 5/5/2013
Good workout
This is good resistance workout that adds even more cardio as you are moving all the time. The only thing I realized is that I could not use heavier weights like I usually do because of the constant movement, however I feel I am getting just as good a workout even with lighter weights. Would recommend if you like more variety in your resistance workouts. - posted by Gail on 5/3/2013
Full Body Workout in 30 Minutes
I am a huge Denise Austin fan...but Ellen is also becoming a new favorite. I love the fact that this works the WHOLE body in only 30 minutes. You will be challenged, you will sweat, and it will be fun! I felt like a got a little bit of cardio and stretching in as well. Way to go Ellen! - posted by Jennifer on 4/28/2013
Disappointed
I was looking forward to Sleek Sculpt Express, a thirty minute sculpting workout from Ellen. However, the workout did not meet my expectations. Rather than develop a solid “express” workout, Ellen rushes through the routine. The impression is quick, hurry up, move along; we only have thirty minutes. Technique and form suffer as Ellen hurries from one exercise to another without clear and concise explanations. What little explanation we receive is silly analogies (elevators and pilot lights) squeezed between irrelevant chatter. Watching Ellen and her two backup exercisers adds to the frustration; their execution is sloppy. Arm and leg positioning differs among the three for the same exercise. I frequently found myself trying to recall what other instructors said about an exercise regarding form and technique. Cuing is poor as evidenced by the trio’s timing differences. Finally this workout emphasizes the upper body. Based on the Collage diagram, I thought it would be more balanced. Knowing what I know now, I probably would have skipped purchasing this DVD. Unfortunately, it is too late to return. - posted by Monica on 4/27/2013

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
