Time graph for Fonda's Complete and Stress Reduction
Two videos, originally released as VHS tapes in 1989. "The Complete Workout" includes both aerobics and targeted toning while "Light Aerobics and Stress Reduction" has an aerobics and a stretch section. They both feature Jane’s legendary cuing and motivating attitude. "The Compete Workout" has lots of variety, both in the music and the dance steps (from country western to oldies, from cha chas to ponies"). The muscle toning sections are separated so you can alternate between upper body/aerobics one day and aerobics/lower body the next. "Light Aerobics and Stress Reduction" is combines cardio with stretch/relaxation at a beginner/intermediate level. It’s the ideal tension reliever — vigorous activity followed by a quiet stretch. The aerobics are easy-to-follow and low impact, while the stretch focuses on breathing, flexibility and mental attitude. During the final stress reduction segment, you’ll close your eyes as Jane guides you toward letting all the tension drain out of your body. Requires 2 to 10 lb. dumbbells; ankle weights are optional. ©1989. Note: VHS version only includes "Light Aerobics and Stress Reduction." DVD has: Region 1.

Fonda's Complete and Stress Reduction

Jane is still the best
I've been working out for 20 years - starting with Jane Fonda's first workout back in the 80's and after hundreds of videos and DVD's and hundreds of instructors, her workouts are still my favorites. These two are good examples. Her routines are well thought-out, safe and always creative - not the same old side steps, knee lifts, blah blah blah. Her voice is soothing and her instruction is the best. She doesn't talk too much or ramble on and on about the same things over and over like one of the other popular female instructors and she doesn't stick one person in the back (that you never see) doing the lower intensity version - she always has one entire side of the room doing it for those who want an easier, but still fun work-out. And thats just what her work-outs are - fun. You can tell everyone is having a good time. The choreography is sometimes a little more moderate than easy, but she and her other instructors are very encouraging. (e.i."tough transition, but don't worry, you'll get it"). There are many good instructors that I enjoy and workout to daily - but Jane is, always was and will forever be at the very top. I wish she was still doing workout DVD's. - posted by Marti on 3/16/2009
Good for light days
"The Complete Workout" is great for days when you want a lighter workout. The music is good and the video quality is great. The outfits are all very dated from the 80s, but that is okay since they are very cheery and colorful. The cuing is good. I like that there are both low- and high-impact versions of aerobics. The actual moves are unique and fairly easy to follow. It's nice that there is minimal marching in place as that gets boring quickly. I like the "monkey arms" move a lot. I have not done the light aerobics part, but I think it's great that you get several workouts on one DVD, giving the exerciser many options. - posted by Leeya on 3/8/2008
Jane Fonda is Queen of Aerobics
I have been doing Jane Fonda workouts for many many years now - starting in my teens and still do them now. I think her step video led by two of her instructors that have appeared on most of her videos is one of the best step videos I have ever used and yes, ok, so they may appear dated, but I have never got the same results with any other videos. I wish she would release another one. I hope to enjoy this one just as much. - posted by Jenny on 7/6/2007

Worked for me!!!
I'm so glad I found this work out on dvd!!! Using Jane Fonda's tapes I lost 50 pounds!!!It's a little goofy and out-dated but so what! You'll have fun. And with a good diet you will get in great shape. - posted by L.B. on 3/18/2007
Jane's the best
I've been doing Jane's exercise videos for close to 20 years and no others work me as well as Jane's. These are two of my favorites (and I own nearly all of hers): Complete is great toning and aerobics that can be done in parts if desired. Stress Reduction has a short, low-impact aerobics section that works on days I don't have much time or have already walked, skied, etc. followed by the best stretching segment I know. Easy to follow but interesting and effective. Sure wish Jane would produce some new ones. - posted by Charlotte on 2/7/2007
Jane knew how to make great workout videos
I started out with Jane Fonda's Workout Record (yes, record!)in 1983 was hooked on Jane and exercise. I eagerly awaited the release of every new video. The sunshiny sets and primary colors (except for Lean Routine which I also loved) were motivating in themselves (and made the later "dark or grey industrial sets of other instructors seem depressing). My Jane videos are wearing out. Please produce them all in DVD and better yet, ask her to make a new intermediate step video led by Jane herself. If these DVDs are at your fitness level I highly recommend them. Her choreography is basic but always fun. - posted by Kay on 1/21/2007
I missed you Jane!
Back in the old days of video, I had many of the Jane Fonda workouts. Then my VCR broke and I replaced it with a DVD player. Since then, no Jane Fonda workouts- I thought it would be okay buy no other aerobics videos really compare. I was so happy when I saw these workouts on DVD, and they did not dissapoint. The same great music, cueing, production and enthusiasm that I remember. But I need more! Please put Lean Routine and Low Impact Aerobics on DVD! I'm begging you, Jane (or is it Warner Bros.)!!! - posted by Belle LaVue on 7/29/2006

Jane's Workouts Are Always The Best
My DVD was chaptered. It was really great to do both aerobics portions and then the wonderful stretch. The production quality of this DVD was just wonderful. Jane and her instructors are always really wonderful and I enjoy her workouts most, especially now that they are on DVD. The aerobics portions were very fun and I especially liked the soft pastels outfits on the light aerobics portion. It was very pleasant. The music was really nice and the stretch was wonderful. - posted by Leeya on 12/25/2005
not chaptered
i am glad these are on dvd, but be aware they are not chaptered. you have to fast forward to get to just the stretch part of the stress reduction workout. I would have preferred a menu selection that would allow me to choose without fast forwarding. - posted by susan on 7/5/2005

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
