This is hard but fun and a good workout |
| I always wanted to learn the video dances, and I took dance lessons for over 10 years. I still found this to be difficult. By the time I repeat the instructional parts over and over again though, I've already had a good workout, and I'm not even dancing with the speed of the music yet. My biggest complaint is that the person who recorded this needed to stand back further. It was recorded too close up to Brian and the other dancers so sometimes you can't see what their feet are doing. Second biggest complaint would be when Brian is actually giving the instructional steps the first time, and he says them really fast. I do wish that somebody would make a more up to date version (especially with Beyonce's songs...those would be REALLY good workouts!) Overall though this is a fun way to learn the dances from the music videos and get a total body workout. - posted by Katie on 7/14/2011 |

    Difficult, but inspiring |
| Friedman's movie starts with dancers trying out for a show. We watch as he decides which dancers are good enough for what he wants and then he starts to teach them. Here is where we get the instructions and they come fast and are freestyle. He does not break them down too much and the moves are somewhat challenging if you are not well-versed in dancing freestyle. He progresses through a number of freestyle dances increasing in difficulty and then provides short interviews with his trainees and himself before the stage show. The final show is shown and is very inspiring. A very steep learning curve makes this dvd probably not the best for beginners, but it is demanding enough to make it interesting to watch again and again if you are devoted to mastering these moves. You might want to skip the testimonials to Friedman's status as a dance instructor by the big stars at the beginning, though they do establish his credentials. It works as both a narrative and an instruction film, but again, the moves are not overly analyzed and go by very fast. The idea of mirroring Friedman as if you are both looking in the same mirror, which he says to do, clashes with his verbal instructions of "left and right", as you will have to mentally switch them if you are mirroring his moves directly. He should provide another version that corrects this discrepancy, as having to edit his stage directions while you are learning the moves is just an added mental noise factor. Perhaps a more detailed and instructive version for beginners would also be desirable. Seasoned dancers should have not problem with this version, however, and it is well-paced and entertaining. Worth the price. - posted by Pete F. on 4/14/2011 |

    not so sure |
| I would put 3.5 but they wouldn't let me. You definitely have to have dance experience before you try this video. I have some experience but apparently not enough. He goes through the moves quickly and you have to remember which way you go in comparison to him and his dance crew. I did the first 5 or 10 minutes of the actual dance part before I changed DVD's to something I felt I could actually do and be constructive instead of blankly staring at the TV screen. - posted by Brenda on 11/4/2010 |

| I love the video. Only thing different I would recommend is not to have all that stuff before you get to the actual workout. - posted by Linda Resto on 9/12/2010 |

| I loved this dvd! |
| As someone who has always loved to dance as a hobby, I was hoping to find something to give me my dance "fix" since I hadn't been doing any dance classes in the past 8 or 9 years. This dvd was the answer. The choreography is so cool. I skipped the Ashanti routine as it seemed a bit too easy but I loved learning the Mya "My Love is Like...Wo" routine. I tried the Britney Spears "Overprotected" video but those are some pretty intricate moves....however it was just fun watching and attempting to learn the moves. All in all, this one is a lot of fun. - posted by cutielocks08 on 12/10/2006 |
