Certified instructor description:
A beautiful production integrating toning, Pilates, yoga and stretch. You’ll build strength and improve flexibility while totally avoiding all on-your-back positions (e.g. the Pilates “hundred” is done kneeling instead of lying). There’s a huge variety of pregnancy-adapted exercises, from bicep curls and against-the-wall squats to simple yoga poses like “warrior” and “plank.” You also get relaxing stretch segments and stress-reducing guided relaxation at the end. Very tranquil, detailed cuing with lots of modifications (the three exercisers are each in a different trimester; each one shows the moves for her own stage). Requires 3 lb. dumbbells. ©2004. Makes me feel good
I'm 35 years old and pregnant for the first time (13 wks). Before I got pregnant, I worked out 4-5 times a week doing step and weights and pilates. This workout feels so good--I feel so relaxed at the end and I know that as the months go by, this one will keep me healthy and strong! - posted by SaraP on 9/27/2006
good stretches
this isn't the most toning video I've ever done, but I've learned not to expect too much from pregnancy workouts. I really like the breathing and the stretches in this video- it's amazing how much a small adjustment like rotating your pinky can make in a stretch! I'm just over 6 months pregnant now and my ribs constantly feel tight, this video really helps relieve that feeling. - posted by jami g on 7/8/2006
Soothing pilates/yoga/stretching
I found this to be a very well produced prenatal dvd, with a easy to understand instructor, modifications for each trimester, and good exercises. While I agree that it is indeed a slow paced workout as other reviewers have mentioned, I did not find it to be boring at all. It was very relaxing and will be perfect for me to do once or twice a week in the evening before bed to relax and unwind. It is a good compliment to my other prenatal dvd's and cardio that I'm doing to stay in shape. Nice to have an easy, low key workout when you're pregnant in my opinion. - posted by Stacey on 6/16/2006
Good, But Long
I do not normally do much Pilates or yoga because I never saw great results -- I think you just have to work out like that in a class for it to be effective, at least when you are starting out. However, I found this DVD very easy to follow and form pointers were constantly reinforced, but not to the point of being boring or repetitive. I felt invigorated and refreshed when it was over. Lots of variety for one DVD, but the workout is long. I just save this for the one day each week I have to workout for longer than an hour and then do the Firm BSS2 six pack workouts to stay in shape on the other days. They are just the right intensity level for me right now and very easy to modify for pregnancy. - posted by Amy on 1/11/2006
Soothing and makes me feel good
I enjoy this workout except for two things. One it is very long. I exercise before I go to work in the morning and this runs about 15 to 20 minutes too long for me to fit in. Also, it seems to be more stretching than toning. I was hoping for some more toning to compliment my cardio videos but there seems to be more yoga than pilates in this video, particularly in the beginning. However, I feel very good after doing it and think the instructor cues well and shows the modifications well. - posted by Pamela on 9/22/2005
Great Video!
I really loved this video! The instructor in this is very confident and very knowledgeable. She gives great tips. The exercises and stretching are awesome. I feel so refreshed after I do this workout. Now and before I was pregnant, I exercise 5 - 6 days per week. I still do those videos, but I modify, but I have added this one into my routine and I absolutely love it and recommend it. It is very soothing and invigorating. - posted by Susan on 3/17/2005
Great video!
Unlike one of the previous reviewers, I really enjoyed this video. I am an avid fitness enthusiast and worked out a lot prior to this pregnancy, including using the FIRM videos which are very high impact. I don't think that pregnancy is a time to engage in super high impact/high energy workouts. This video is so relaxing and gives excellent stretches. I really enjoyed the pilates and yoga moves and felt like I had done something great for my muscles and back, even though I didn't work up a sweat. I would recommend this video for anyone who is pregnant, no matter what your fitness level or trimester. And if you want to add cardio to your workouts, like I did, go for a walk. (I use the treadmill.)P.S. Who cares if the others aren't pregnant Jennifer is! Enjoy! - posted by Lesli on 3/3/2005
Great Video
Jennifer Gianni's pregnancy workout has saved my back. I have always been an exerciser and am in fairly good shape.I have a three year old and am now pregnant with my second. Running after my 3 yr old and being pregnant really did a number on my back. This tape has great strenghening and streching segments...It is a very balanced workout and I am pain free now. I try to do at least some of the tape everyday...The whole video along with jennifer is pleasant and soothing. - posted by Janice on 8/20/2004
BORING
I'm pregnant with my 4th child. I have always excercised during my pregnancies but I doubt I will do this one a second time. Too much talking in prep for the moves. The leader, Jennifer, is even the only one pregnant! As a usual FIRM user, I was expecting more since Jennifer was once a FIRM instructor. - posted by Tricia on 5/14/2004
Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
