Certified instructor description: A well-structured fat-burner that features interesting choreography and excellent cuing — your feet just naturally seem to be in the right place for the next move (Gay has been teaching step for 20+ years). You'll begin with basic combos and a simple rhythm, the ideal format to get your body ready and your mind engaged. Then Gay boosts the intensity and adds in the new patterns — often intensified versions of combinations you've learned earlier (sequences that feel completely different the second time around). Includes some pivots, spins and off-bench moves. Gay's transitions are superb and her cue-ahead instruction is easy to follow ("okay, the next time this will be ..."). ©2012.

Gay Gasper's Steptastic

I'm keeping it, but...
Well, as mentioned before no menu, chapters, etc... Music is louder than Gay (I had the volume turned way up and still couldn't understand everything she said). I didn't think it was too hard as I didn't find myself starting and stopping too many times. I think that's because I've seen similar moves in Cathe's videos and a CIA video featuring Deidre Morris and I've already practiced the moves enough to know them. She does get a little turned around in the last step segment, I think - she taught it one way and it ended up being another way when we 'took it from the top'. After she taught all the routines, she said that we were going to go thru the whole thing at least twice. However, we only did it once. I wanted the extra cardio burst of doing it twice, but because of the lack of chapters, it took me forever to find the beginning of that segment. By the time I found it, my heart rate was down and I no longer had the mindset to do it. Quite cumbersome... I like the fact that it's strictly step - no intervals. And I like the fact that's it not your basic choreography. And it did get my heart rate up when I used an 8 inch step... So, I guess I'll keep it. - posted by Lisa on 3/13/2013
1st Step DVD I Ever Bought
I have been doing step at the Gym for years and this is the 1st Step DVD I have ever bought to use at home. It was hard getting some of the steps so I liked being able to rewind over again until I learned the step, mainly being on the right foot to match her. It gets your mind exercised as well as your body! Once I learned it though I really enjoyed it! - posted by Barbara on 2/21/2013
Great Workout
I love being able to review the workout before I purchase it. This one is just as I thought it would be, not a beginner but not too advanced. I recommend it highly. - posted by Barbara on 2/21/2013
Not Gay Gasper usual DVD
was very disappointed in G Gasper's latest step dvd. This is not typical of Gay's usual work. There is no warm up, no rehearsal effect in order to learn the choreography, she adds on before you have even learned the 1st move she has introduced. I literally had to turn off the dvd in order to practice the moves and rhythm changes so I could go on, only to be frustrated again and again. I only hope Gay goes back to her usual standards of building choreography at a doable pace while the viewer is able to get some cardio while learning new options at the same time. I taught step for 20 yrs and this is not do-able till you turn off the dvd and practice the moves over and over on your own and then join in. - posted by Victoria on 2/10/2013
One Cheesy DVD
Like somebody filmed this in the garage. No menu. Background music so loud I had a difficult time getting her cues. It was like I was "working out with a friend" and once in a while she would tell you what she was doing. Sometimes after the fact. I also did not like the website address continually popping up. That was a big distraction. - posted by CJ on 1/31/2013
Frustrating
The choreography was difficult, but Gay made it frustrating by moving on without allowing me to "get it." I was frustrated and sorry that I bought this DVD. - posted by Stacy on 1/7/2013
Very Fun!!!
Gay is a fantastic upbeat teacher and makes working out fun. I was REALLY glad to see a new step video from her!!! - posted by Jean on 12/13/2012
step
She just starts out and does not give any instruction. If you are a skilled stepster this is a great work out but if you are just starting out this is hard to follow along with. - posted by carol on 11/23/2012
Not lovin it
Well, I really want to like this workout, I like the instructor very much and I love step aerobics. I dont have time to learn complex routines and this is a bit complex. I have done this work out several times and I still dont have the choreography down. I would enjoy this work out more if it were not such a difficult routine to learn. - posted by Debi on 11/16/2012
Good workout
It is not a bad video. I am 59 yrs. old and haven't done step in over 5 years; I used to be pretty good at step. It will take a few times before I will be able to do all the different steps. I think the cueing could be better. I'm not hard of hearing, but the cueing doesn't seem to be spoken very clearly even when I turn the volume up. I will say I worked up a good sweat. - posted by Lois on 10/20/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
