Time graph for Get Ripped! with Jari Love

A no-nonsense body-sculpting workout that features long sets of high repetitions to build both endurance and definition. Similar to gym-style “Body Pump” classes, the driving instrumental music is integral to the workout — it’s carefully programmed to keep you on-pace and motivated (it’s not just “background music”). Jari makes these classic routines interesting and effective by varying the tempo, changing the angles or adding subtle modifications. Throughout, the emphasis is breath, proper form and using the correct weight level for each movement (e.g. heavier for biceps, lighter for shoulders). Requires several sets of dumbbells, barbells and a step or weight bench. A stability ball is optional. ©2005.

Get Ripped! with Jari Love

Love Simple Workouts
This DVD is just basic body sculpting, which is exactly what I like to do. I'm just not a fan of compound exercises. Even though this is definitely her easiest workout, it is my favorite because I just love good old fashioned weight training. Even though her Slim & Lean workout is way harder than this one, I prefer to do this one because it includes inner and outer thigh work as well. - posted by Corenne on 2/2/2010
Good intro to weight training
I would recommend this workout to advanced beginners or intermediates. For my fitness level I found it to be way too easy. This is my third Jari DVD (I also have 1000 and RTC) and it's definitely the easiest. I thought the editing was a little off during the deadlift/row series, esp. during the warm up. I followed her count and she would be standing when I was bent over and vice versa. The music and the set are a little boring but it gets the job done. I will keep this for days I don't want to work too hard. My favorite is Ripped 1000. It is fun to do,gets my heart rate up, and when I am done I have a nice exercise high. I would definitely recommend that video as opposed to this one if you are more advanced . - posted by Melissa on 9/30/2009
A less intense but Good introduction to the Ripped series
Having done other videos for years (mostly from the Firm series), I did not find this one particularly challenging for my level. I rotate this workout in to my routine when I want a decent full body sculpting session, but need a break from the tougher workouts. That is not to say however this was not a good video. I highly recommend it for beginners in weight training and wish it was around when I started. It provides easy to follow instructions and gives the user a 'taste' of what is to come in some of Jari's more challenging workouts. The repititions tended to be high (eg. the bicep and shoulder sets) in some areas while not so high in others (eg. the pushup and lunge sets). The higher repitition sets are what get the exerciser used to Jari's style and techniques while not pushing the beginner too hard. This workout can be made more or less challenging just by simply selecting light, heavy, or no weights. Very well put together. - posted by CS on 9/5/2009
Good to start on or fall back on
This is the 5th Jari video I purchased, and it is way easier than any of the others. I was able to do this one with heavier weights than Jari, and even Laurie at times on the first try and didn't even get sore. I didn't feel my heart rate elevate that much on the squats and lunges, which normally get my heart rate up on advanced level videos, but I probably could have gone heavier. I wish I had started with this one when I first tried her videos, and I would recommend this as a first choice to a weight training newbie (who's aerobically fit) to at least get proper instructions on basic form. Her instructions are easy to follow. But I still give it 5 stars anyway because it is more suitable for a wider variety of fitness levels and provides form pointers. At my level it's not going to be my first choice, except if I feel lazy it's ready to pull off the shelf. - posted by S on 5/30/2009
fantastic!
I do this workout about once a week when i want to focus on total body and this does the trick.. Sore for a few days and thats just what i like. - posted by Candace on 1/2/2009
Great Alternative to Weights
I love the Jari Love DVDs. Like some others, this is her easier workout. I am an advocate for weight training and would prefer to skip cardio. This workout has simplistic moves that allows for heavier weight training. Jari's other dvds move much faster and require lighter weights. This is a good workout for all levels. The amount of weight determines the level. Can't wait for a new Jari DVD...maybe a dvd that concentrates on just upper or lower body moves. - posted by Julia T. on 7/2/2008
Basic Gym-Style Weight Training
This video has the basic exercises. It seems easy and slow- paced but when you add on the weights, then you feel it. Its like the "free-weight section" at the gym. You control how heavy you want to lift, and your results. It has more of an upper body focus, with only a few squats and lunges that aren't really that tough. (Its mostly push-ups, chest-work, biceps, triceps & front deltoid work). So,I wouldn't count on this workout exclusively to get slim legs, though it does have squats, lunges, inner thigh and outer thigh floor work.(Hence the four stars, not five, because I like challenging lower body work, like Cathe's Butts and Gutts). It is a good no-nonsense OVERALL strength training program. (I think its the easiest of her get ripped series). I do this video when I don't want to get too winded, but when I want a full-body weight workout. It even has a short ab section. Jari is very pleasant. She says the right things at the right time. Great inspiration. You'll feel great after you finish this workout. //P.S. I would describe the background music as instrumental house/club music. - posted by Clarisse on 5/24/2008
good intermediate strength workout
When I dont have the strength for cathe's muscle endurance workout I do this. I still get a good workout and my heart rate stays up. This DVD is more intermediate to me, but if you're new to weight training and need to take it up a notch this will fit the bill. - posted by delores on 3/20/2008
Great!
I have just recently started working out with Jari and somehow managed to buy her other workouts before buying this one. I did this workout this morning for the first time and I really enjoyed it. I can definitely see myself continuing to grow and be challenged as I increase my weight loads. I will say that I think her newer workouts are tougher than this one but this is still a great workout. I will use this one on days when I still want to be challenged but maybe don't want something as intense as Slim and Lean or Ripped and Chiseled. - posted by Pam on 2/19/2008
Awesome Workout
Jari has great queing. This is easy to follow and a very effective muscle toning workout. I recommend the DVD. - posted by Chae on 2/8/2008

Reading a Time Graph

Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
