Time graph for Hollywood Trainer Total Body Circuit

Led by Jeanette Jenkins, it’s fast-paced cardio intervals intermixed with weight-room-style body-sculpting. No fancy choreography or multi-muscle toning, these are “straight-up, basic moves that will get you in shape to face the world.” To assure correct form, the toning isolates individual muscle groups — 15 to 25 reps of well-sequenced favorites like push-ups, curls, squats and pliés (plus isometrics and balance training). The cardio is equally straight-forward — easy-to-follow, athletic-style moves designed to keep your heart rate up. The two workouts are complementary; one works your body from front-to-back, the other from side-to-side. Jeanette is a very personable instructor; her class includes some “real world” — not-yet-Hollywood — bodies. Requires 3 to 10 lb. dumbbells; 3 to 5 lb. ankle weights are optional. ©2007. Hollywood Trainer Total Body Circuit

Good workout if you can get past the audio...
Listen to the other reviewers when they say this instructor talks loudly and a LOT. I have a couple of Jeanette's Hollywood Trainer videos that I never do because of her voice and volume. Another reviewer hit the nail on the head: It's like she's trying to project to the back of a workout studio, and forgets she's wearing a microphone (and that I'm RIGHT in front of the television.) Her workouts are actually really good, and this 21-day 'circuit' is no different. If she could get the voice thing fixed (and maybe get some brighter sets), she could be a real fitness star. Til then, I'm going to take the suggestion of one of the other reviewers and do this workout on mute. - posted by nana on 4/19/2008
Good simple workout
If your an advanced excersiser you will probably be bored, but if you do not have a lot of workout space and hate complex routines this is good plus you can increase your dumbell weight as you see fit. I plan to use this on my light workout days. - posted by Delores on 4/3/2008
A keeper
I was torn when I went to get this workout due to some of the less than great reviews. I always try to pick staff favorites, so I went ahead. I love it, fast effective and efficient. I don't mind her talking and sense of humor. I found myself smiling with them. She is down to earth as are the people on the dvd and that makes me feel better. - posted by Paula on 3/27/2008
Ok if youre a beginning
If youre used to working out 5 to 6 days a week and youve been working out for a while forget this dvd. This is strickly for beginers. I agree with another reviewer there are a lot of circut workouts out there better than this and she does talk to much. - posted by delores on 3/6/2008
Absolutely Wonderful Workout
I love the basic moves in this workout and the simplicity of the cardio moves. You won't have two-left feet with this workout. This is a keeper. The music is great and funky. This video is a keeper in my collection. - posted by Stacey on 2/22/2008
Disappointed
I purchased this dvd about a month ago, after reading all the great reviews. Sadly, I have to say that this is not for me. I am an Inter/Advance person, workout 6-7 days a week. This didn't keep my interest nor did I feel like I got a workout afterwards. I only did the first workout, I haven't got around to the second circuit. There are better circuit workouts out there. This dvd I will donate. - posted by Chen on 2/19/2008
Good but...
I have to mute this one which is fine because I prefer my own music. I like the pace and the fact that it is so basic makes for a nice mix with all my other compound muscle dvd's. I can choose to do the workout as is; focused muscle isolation with high reps/light weight, or, if I want to, I can kick things up a bit with heavier weights/lower reps and even adapt an exercise to my own compound moves. It doesn't require a lot of equipment or space either. The cardio has only one traveling move, and if donwnstairs neighbors are a concern, you won't annoy them with plyos or jacks. Jeanette is motivating, enthusiastic and sincere. My only issues are Jeanettes counting and her voice. She projects her voice as if she needs to be heard all the way to the back of the classroom. I noticed ear fatigue with this dvd which I had not experineced with her Kickbox/Weight workout.(Not the Crunch one). The problem is solved with the mute button and I can concentrate on doing my own counting better too. It's not perfect, but it is a good one and for me, a keeper. - posted by ADM on 2/18/2008
A Keeper.
This DVD is Fast, Effective and works every muscle. Jeanette has a great personality with a good sense of humor. This DVD can be tailored to suit any level excerciser depending on the amount of weight used. - posted by Kathy on 2/4/2008
Finally Found It!
I have been looking for a video that does it all in a small amount of time (mom of three young kids) and this is wonderful. Basic exercises - all you need are some dumbells. I like that the people in the video are of all body types. After several years of doing the Firm videos, I really wish I could of just had this from the start. Jeanette is very down to earth and a great instructor. I look forward to continuing this work out and also using her core video. Great job, Jeanette!!! - posted by Cathy on 1/11/2008
A Workout DVD I Will Use A Lot -- Great Investment
This is a solid intermediate workout which can easily be modified (with lower weights) for beginners. If you're looking for a simple, gym-style workout that is varied, you've found it here. This basic workout is clearly geared toward folks who exercise for fitness rather than with the aspiration of appearing on the cover of a muscle magazine. :) ... For me, an intermediate-advanced exerciser, this workout is perfect for the days when I can't stomach doing a Cathe or Jari but want to get a quick, simple workout in without any dread factor. (Incidentally, I liked the trainer, Jeanette. She didn't annoy me at all.) I am a former Firmie who finds that the newer Firm workouts no longer hold much appeal, so I'm looking elsewhere. This workout is just fine for my purposes. If you like this workout, you might also like Firm's Super Body Sculpt, Crunch Total Resculpt with Kendall Hogan, or the Women's Health series. The workouts are under 45 minutes and are fun to do. - posted by Michelle on 1/9/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
