Time graph for Ilaria's BodyStrikes
A straight-forward program totally focused on lower-body toning. You’ll quickly reshape your legs and buttocks without using any equipment (your own body weight provides all the resistance). It’s a smoothly “choreographed” sequence of exercises that works your legs in every direction and in every plane. Each section gets progressively more challenging (e.g. slow squats become fast squats that gradually evolve into even faster left/right squats). The moves include front lunges, reverse lunges, leg lifts, roundhouse kicks and even diagonal “corner snaps.” Ilaria Montagnani, a quietly-intense instructor, constantly emphasizes form and technique. ©2008. DVD has: Chapter menus, Wide screen.

Ilaria's BodyStrikes

Not my cup of tea
I know everyone is raving about this workout. Don't get me wrong. I'm not bashing Ilaria. She cues well. Her form is excellent. There is really nothing wrong with the workout. It just wasn't for me. I found it repetitious and boring. - posted by jf on 1/31/2010
I Love This Workout!
I love this workout. It is a lower body STANDING workout. I hate getting on the floor for anything and I am constantly on the lookout for standing lower body dvd's. Having said that, I may also mention that I like it because it targets other muscles that I'm sure my other workouts don't, like the ones involved in the "round house" and "push". Before this, I thought a kick was a kick. I like the way she explains the moves and then builds on what was done previously. Besides the pushups in the warmup, there are also squat thrusts, which is as close to the floor as I go. I thought one part near the end was cute when she says to look forward and not at the floor, because "you know where the floor is". I also like the fact that no equipment is needed. I thought the workout was HARD and it had my quads screaming, even though I was doing a lot of modifications. In short, get this workout...you will not regret it. - posted by Gwendolyn on 1/28/2010
Great workout for lower body!!
I am on my second week of doing a Ilaria rotation with Powerstrike 5, Bodystrikes, and Abs and Pushup plus, and all I can say is- I feel the burn after each of these videos. I did Bodystrikes yesterday and I feel muscles that I haven't felt in awhile! I love her as an instructor, she gives great instructions as to what you should or shouldn't be doing. I look forward to more videos from her!! - posted by Lynn on 1/15/2010
Excellent
A excellent Lower Body workout taught by a true martial arts. Ilaria Montagnani is precise, superb cuing, excellent form and form pointers, effective, fun challenging lower intensity workout I even Like the music. Ilaria's personality is a pleasant all business/intense approach...she is a awesome instructor. Great production value, not sure what else you would want in a workout. This workout is Perfect for me - posted by Beeah on 1/11/2010
EFFECTIVE!
Collage gives good advice telling us to do a video more than once before rating - I really didn't care for this the first time I did it - not badly enough to send it back or anything but I didn't do it again for quite some time - but the second time, I liked it better. A couple more times and I find I really like this workout. It's fun to get a great lower body workout without weights and I find Illaria really helps me with balance, an area I've always found challenging. I'd like to see more DVDS with this instructor (her pushups/abs video is excellent too) - she is indeed "quietly intense". - posted by Susan W. on 12/2/2009
Good lower body workout!!
I was looking for a good lower body workout without weights since I have hand pain also wanted the workout to be all standing up which this is!! This video is the best!! None of that jumping around or dancey choreography. Ilaria way of teaching the combos are great and you get it, she has a no nonsense approach wish I like. I break out in a sweat every time I do this video. Love all the legwork in this video this is the perfect lower body workout for me. Ilaria is in great form & body. - posted by Cris on 12/1/2009
Unique approach to working the legs
This is my first Ilaria workout. I am so impressed with the precison of her kickbox form. I haven't seen better form on a mainstream kickbox instructor. Her cueing is outstanding. This is a unique workout. It counts as cardio, and depending on how hard you usually work your legs can be a complementary second leg workout for your week or count as a lower body workout. You keep learning lower body combos of unweighted squats and lunges and/or kicking martial arts moves and/or leg raises one after the other. After you learn a combo, she takes it from the top where you do all all combos in succession. I did not find the workout repetitive despite the tifting. The cardio effect will come from trying to execute each move in full range of motion by squatting low and kicking high, as there is no impact. The only reason I deducted a star was because I missed building up a burn. If you have strong legs there are no segments that will test the muscle endurance from say pulses or isometric long holds. Definitely a keeper. - posted by Vrinda on 11/23/2009
Excellent! Tough workout, without dancey choreography
Great cues and form, and because of that, was great for my core without any crunches or being a direct 'core workout.' Excellent strength-builder for legs, knees, hips, glutes, & core without being tough on the knees. Faster paced than I expected, but I love that it is not dancey with lots of complicated choreography. You might have to turn the volume up a tad and the accent is a little tough to understand in some places, but no big deal after you do the video a few times. Just a great, solid, tough workout. Excellent pick, this one's a keeper! - posted by Ruby on 10/22/2009
Not What I Expected
I found this routine to be very different from a traditional kickboxing workout. It's all legwork; punches and jabs are not really part of the equation. However, I did enjoy adding something a little different to my rotation. It is very repetitive though, so if you like a lot of variety you may be disappointed. Also, the sound quality on this dvd is a bit off. I had to turn it up for that reason, as well as Ilaria's accent can be a little hard to understand at times. - posted by Suzanne on 10/18/2009
The Best!!!!!!
Ilaria truly is the best out there! Her Powerstrike 5 is awesome as well. Her cueing is spot on, her reminders about perfect form are second to none, and she does not move at a frenetic pace like some of the other kickboxing workouts. She goes at just the right pace where you get the most out of each punch, and kick, and can get full range of motion which you cannot do in the frenetic kickboxing workouts. You work your entire body, and I promise you will feel it the next day for sure. Keep 'em coming Ilaria! I am a huge fan, and you will be too. Get this one!!!! - posted by Jill Sherry on 10/5/2009

Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
