Certified instructor description: Definitely not “striptease.” This is a genuine fat-burner — fast-paced and well cued, with lots of sexy, showgirl-inspired moves. It’s all done to hit songs like “Lady Marmalade,” “I'm a Slave 4 U,” “On the Floor,” “Don't Cha” and “Can’t Touch It.” So, as Shanna Missett Nelson says, “ditch those inhibitions and just have fun!” Her add-on cuing keeps it playful and varied. The moves range from sultry booty shakes, chest pops and shimmies to more traditional ball changes, step touches and tangos (for added fun, each song finishes with a dramatic “showgirl pose”). Includes a short standing leg-toning series. Sexy pink outfits. ©2011. DVD has: 2 premixes (10 & 20 min. alternate workouts).

Jazzercise: Burlesque

Eh.
This video was not for me. I enjoy Zumba and other dance inspired exercise, so I really thought this would be fun. Especially considering I LOVE watching burlesque shows. But this video just seemed awkward to me. I felt silly and uncoordinated, like the music wasn't matching up. I hate to give a bad review, but I just didn't enjoy this video at all. I was disappointed since it had so many good reviews! This is the first Jazzercise video I've ever used, but I honestly probably won't try any others. Just not a fan. - posted by Steph on 6/4/2013
Another great Jazzercise video with Shanna
This is one of my new favorites! Had me feeling the burn, sweating, and having a fun time dancing. Challenging, fun, and sexy! Thanks! - posted by Ana on 5/22/2013
Awesome

Bad for lower back
I've had this workout for awhile but have waited to write a review, hoping that with time my opinion would change. I do like the music and the workout is fun, but if you have any lower back issues, I would not recommend this. I only have a minor problem with my lower back, but every time I do this workout I end up with a lot of pain that keeps me up at night. There's a lot of chest and booty popping as well as really fast moves that just do not make this safe for those of us who have any kind of joint/back issues. Too bad I didn't buy this from Collage--I would've returned it. That said, if you have no medical issues that keep you from doing it, this is a fun intermediate workout that'll bring out your sexy showgirl. - posted by Gwenn on 3/25/2013

Love this video! Fun and good cardio work out
When I got this video I assumed it would be one of those easy dance videos but I was pleasantly surprised by the great workout I got. I'm a certified fitness instructor and I usually like to do Jillian videos or Marta Montenegro. I found this video to be fun, use muscles I don't usually use, and to get a good cardio workout. Unlike many videos like this, it actually gives you 30 minutes of cardio workout after the warm-up. I enjoy it on days when I don't feel like lifting weights and want to be distracted while exercising. It's fun!!!! - posted by Shannon on 2/14/2013
What a Fun Video!
I just purchased a half dozen videos from Collage video, and this one is by far the most FUN! The routines are easy enough to follow and repeated just enough times so you "get it" the first time. The music is perfect for this type of video and just a whole lot of fun. Highly recommended! - posted by Jeanne on 1/31/2013

Fun!
This is a great work-out and super fun without being too over-the-top! It's a good cardiovascular work-out. It's been fun for me to try something different. - posted by Miranda on 1/26/2013

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Aerobics & Toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
