Certified instructor description: High-energy aerobic favorites led by Judi Sheppard Missett (and Shanna, her daughter). You’re sure to be motivated by the live class format and club/dance music soundtrack. It’s like a rousing concert — the instructors are up on stage while the exercisers are rockin’ on the dance floor. Every 3 to 4-minute combo is choreographed to the individual song; it builds in intensity, reaches a crescendo and ends with a “pose.” The cardio includes a mix of 80’s and 90’s-style exercises, ranging from heel hops, power skips and jumps to flick kicks, arabesques, and ponies (with lots of intensity-boosting arm motions). The all-standing toning features classic body-sculpting (also “choreographed” to the music). Vocal music. Requires 2 to 8 lb. dumbbells. ©2008. DVD has: 3 premixes (20 to 48 min. alternate workouts), Chapter menus.

Jazzercise: Live

Jazzercise live
Great workout, easy to follow routines - total body, music a little low volume and not as familiar as most jazzercise routines but good calorie burn. - posted by Chris on 1/27/2012
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS DVD
This is a great workout featuring aerobics, weights and boxing. I have done Jazzercise for over twenty years. I can't believe the results I have seen since doing this DVD in June. With diet and exercise (this DVD) I have lost 16lbs! I highly recommend this DVD to anyone who loves to work out! - posted by Lorry on 8/19/2011
choices
I couldn't find Jazzercise classes near enough to me so this video makes it convenient for me. I also appreciate that within the video you are given choices to do a full 60 min. or if short on time, a 20 or 30 min. version. Great! - posted by Karen on 7/23/2011
LOVE THE WORK OUT
I order the jazzercise live I work out every day I'm seeing the results went from a 10 to 8 love the work out - posted by Tina R on 7/21/2011
A big disappointment
I've been a Jazzerciser off and on for about thirty years---it's the only kind of class I've ever been able to stick with because I love the dancing aspect of it---it's fun AND it makes you feel like you're getting a good workout! I've used Jazzercise videos over the years, and although they weren't as good as the class (nothing is as good as being there in person), I still enjoyed using them. I hadn't bought a new Jazzercise video or DVD in a very long time, but since the schedule of classes in my city doesn't offer me class times that work with my schedule, I decided I'd order one and try to get back in the habit of exercising regularly. The DVD that was the most appealing to me was the Jazzercise Live one, because I knew I'd enjoy it more because of its live aspect. But this one is disappointing in almost every aspect---the stretching segment is long and boring, Judy Misset's age has apparently caught up with her, because her cuing is not nearly as spot-on as it used to be, and the worst thing about the DVD probably is the God-awful horrible music. As much as loud pop music is an integral motivating component of the classes, the boring techno background music in this one DE-motivates me from wanting to finish the DVD! I still recommend Jazzercise very strongly, but do NOT recommend this DVD at all---it was a waste of my money. - posted by Marcia on 7/14/2011
Jazzercise videos
Do not get the Jazzercise videos, as they are nothing like taking a Jazzercise class. The owner, Judy, & her daughter are absolutely awful in their videos with all their grunting & crappy music. I would not recommend these videos to anyone. Actually my Jazzercise class in Milford, Ct just came to an end, as the instructor retired. I tried these videos as a replacement & have told just about everyone in my Jazzercise class not to purchase them. Sorry but the instructors on the videos need to stop grunting and talking through the routines!! Not happy! - posted by Joann on 6/10/2011
Loved this!
I took Jazzercise classes in the 90's and just fell in love with it. Matter of fact, I got in the best shape of my adult life doing those classes. After I got married, had two kids and began teaching full-time again, I simply stopped going to Jazzercise and began working out at home when I could. I've done lots of different workout videos at home, none of which I've found held my interest for long. I jogged on our treadmill, tried Zumba, did the Wii Fit, did the Firm videos. I just couldn't stick with anything. They were all missing that "fun" factor that I loved about Jazzercise. Then, a few months ago I found out that Jazzercise had released workout videos and they sold them here at Collage. I watched the clip for this workout and decided I would purchase it and see if I liked it. Turns out, I love it- it truly reminds of the classes I took years ago. I like both instructors, though I prefer the daughter's instructing style, I am just thrilled with this live workout. I hope Jazzercise does more, because it kind of makes me feel like I'm at an actual class and that's what I need to keep me motivated since the real classes aren't offered during a time I could possibly make it. I have not purchased their other workout DVD's because they aren't live and I don't feel like they will keep me motivated like the live ones do, this is why I'm hopeful Jazzercise will do more. The moves are easy to follow, I don't have a problem with the cuing and I love the several workout options the DVD gives you- including, my favorite, the interval training workout. - posted by Kaye on 4/22/2011
Not that great
The workouts were just so so, not very interesting or dance-y enough for me. If you are a dancer or ex-dancer you may find this too easy. I agree the transition to weights was not cued well. The singing, regrettable, also didn't enjoy the attitude of instructors. Workout music not at all motivating, which is weird, as that is what Jazzercise is known for--good current music. - posted by Elizabeth on 3/29/2011
Fun Dance Workout
I enjoy this workout and find it very effective. The moves are pretty basic and easy to follow if you haven't been dancing all your life, don't have much or any experience at all with Jazzercise, or are uncoordinated like me! The music is energizing and makes it fun. The warm up starts at such a fast pace, and a cool down really doesn't even exist. The transition into the strength training kind of takes you by surprise, so you've got to have your dumbbells close by! Also, it would be better if the instructors gave more tips on correct form instead of singing most of the songs. There are so many moves that I wonder if I am doing them right, which leads me to agree with others that you could easily injure yourself doing this if you're not careful. It may be helpful to add that this workout can be done in a pretty small space. - posted by Becky on 3/12/2011
Perfect!
This is a perfect 1 hour workout. I smile through all the routines from the aerobics to the toning. - posted by Brenda on 2/9/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
