Certified instructor description: Two aero/tone interval workouts that feature an immense variety of multi-muscle exercises. Jillian keeps you challenged with a non-stop series of endlessly-changing combos (a new routine every 30 seconds!). The cardio is mostly high impact — moves like “flying jacks” and “half-turn squat jumps.” The toning is equally tough — exercises like “pivot lunges” and “lateral moving push-ups.” Each program uses different moves in a similar format. You’ll do six aerobics-and-toning circuits, then you’ll repeat the series a second time. The sequences combine proven favorites with Jillian-specific variations (e.g. a straight-leg sit-up that’s intensified with a rolling superman lift). Very smooth transitions. Requires 3 to 10 lb. dumbbells. ©2012. DVD has: Spanish cuing option, Close captions, Region 1.

Jillian Michaels' Hard Body

Hard Body
Really like this DVD. Have most of Jillians DVD's. I like all the moves they are different from her other DVD's. She is right on q and is always an inspiration. Tried both level one and two and both made me sweat. Thanks Jillian for another great work out. - posted by Lor on 5/30/2013
This is a good workout dvd.
I have most of Jillian's dvds, and while they are all similar, this one has different moves, and it keeps your interest. It's not too difficult, and I like that she used different people for this workout. I was getting pretty tired of seeing the same people every time in her other workouts. I really liked that the workouts were 45 minutes long. Jillian doesn't talk as much in this dvd, and I miss her talking. I value her opinions, and her motivational speeches. They inspire me to do better in all areas of my life. I didn't like the music, and I think the DJ was kind of distracting, but he is really cute! I would recommend this dvd to anyone looking for an easy to moderately hard workout. - posted by Janette on 5/23/2013
I Like It
I am a long-time Jillian fan. I don't have all of her dvd's, but I do have several. I'm not sure what all the negativity is about. If you already know Jillian, then you know her style, however I did not find her to be abraisive at all in these 2 workouts. I'll agree that the set is pretty lackluster and the DJ was a little weired, but I didn't find him distracting. I would define workout #1 as more intermediate and workout #2 as intermediate/advanced. Both workouts had a lot of new fresh moves that I hadn't seen before, and there are not a million repetitions of each. These workouts do not follow her typical format, i.e. no 3,2,1. You do the circuit (alternating strength and cardio) all the way thru and then repeat. For these reasons, the dread factor is low for me, as the time really flies. However I did deduct one star, because as others have said, there is a lot of unnecessary downtime between moves. Still, I found this a nice addition to my workout collection. - posted by Suzanne on 5/20/2013
Mixed Bag O' Tricks
Feeling mixed. Routines are a nice, long length. Burned a lot of calories on these routines too, per my heart monitor. Warm-ups were lame, so were some exercises. Sub moves you like for the ones you don't like. That works. Too much up and down...ugh! For ab exercises, I frequently substitute standing abs (ala Tae Bo). Jillian's attitude here is fine, not as hostile to her exercisers and no stupid comments about "trips to the hospital." A worthwhile purchase, if you're willing to sub what you don't like because you will burn that fat! (Very nice to see Natalie again, who once famously starred in a Crunch step video wearing orange pants, before orange was hot! She was great then and she's still great now.) - posted by Robin K on 5/11/2013
Another Jillian "not for me" dvd
I thought I would give this one a whirl. I only did workout 2, as I am advanced and her intermediate/advanced segments aren't enough for me. usually I don't review unless I have done the video at least 2x, but I don't think I could do it a 2nd time. This is another choppy video with no flow at all. Too much resting in between her explanations so I just extended the circuit to get a sweat going. Some moves were awkward so I switched it up. I got a good laugh at the DJ. He looked like he wanted to be any place but there. The music is the same terrible techno beat over and over again. What was she thinking? Oh, and for all the money the woman makes, start chaptering and offer premixes. Shouldn't everybody expect that in a dvd these days? Doesn't matter anyway, I won't buy or borrow anymore of her dvds. NMTZ is still her best and I do that one often. - posted by Cam on 5/2/2013
LOVE HARD Body!
Great workout in a decent amount of time. Not too short to feel like you didn't do anything but short enough to get a good workout in before work in the morning. Really works your whole body. - posted by Jeanne on 5/2/2013
Really Great!
I had this on my wishlist forever, but kept being put off by the earlier negative comments. I'm glad I bought it despite those, because it is FABULOUS. It's very challenging, but not at all discouraging. I was able to complete the workouts with only a few short breaks. I think Jillian is her usual self, encouraging/tough/motivating/funny. I adore her. I don't really understand the annoyance people have with the DJ. He's hardly ever shown on camera, and when he does show up, it's when you're in the middle of a set (and already know how the move goes). I think she was going for something a bit different and fun, and this is it. Finally, there are a lot of interesting and unique moves that I haven't seen before. LOVE THIS. - posted by Jamie on 4/24/2013
Jillian hardbody.
I loved!!! this lots of moves to keep it interesting I hope. She doesn't do the DJ again, only see him when your picking up weights or have done a move a few times. So he's not really taking away from the workout. I'm happy with my purchase and with the workout I'll buy her next DVD I'm sure. - posted by Hannah k. on 4/23/2013
change of pace.
I enjoyed that it has new moves. Jillian was getting kinda redundant. But I felt this DVD freshened it up. Plus I enjoyed that she has a few more people on set. I usually dislike a lot of people but every other Jillian DVD I have has her and 2 girls. So it gives me something else to look at. The music ...I've heard better. the DJ to me wasn't all that distracting. So if you like Jillian I feel you'll like this. Its good all over toning calories burning. Though I must agree ripped in 30 had some hard workouts than level 1 but hey it was only level 1. - posted by Anna Lea on 4/22/2013

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

In addition to English, you can choose to hear the program in Spanish.
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Aerobics & Toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
