Karen's pilates workout
This is a good workout. I can feel a difference in my abs. Although I'm having trouble getting the fat off my abs, I can sure suck them in now. I love Karen's cueing, I need to get her other pilates video. - posted by Terri on 7/17/2010
A Great Way to Get Started....and Advance
This is a great workout for a beginner to Pilates or any ab/back work. Karen's cueing is good for the most part and the music is benign enough to not get annoying time after time. She doesn't go into variations on all the exercises, which is a downside, but you can generally figure them out (bend knees slightly if it's too hard for your lower back, etc). There is room to advance as your muscles become stronger as well. I've had this DVD for about a month and I've been doing it every other day. I definitely feel a difference and don't dread doing the workout. Give it a try! - posted by Marybeth on 6/14/2010
This is awesome for stregthening core
This video has been a help with gaining back core strength after debilitating back pain due to Degenerative Disc Disease. I feel taller, my posture is better and my I am gaining back core strength that was lost with back problems! This is awesome and goes by fast as each exercise is done in segments of a minute or so! It did not feel like work, but my abs sure felt it later. This is my first Karen Voight video and she is a very good instructor -- clear, well cued and has a friendly personality. Karen's done it again!
This is a great workout and has really helped me tone my core. I was an advanced exerciser and had to have back surgery a few years ago (microdiscetomy)due to a freak accident. This has really helped me strengthen my core so I can go back to doing the exercises that I love (running, tennis, dance). My neurosurgeon also noticed a difference in my core strength & muscles after doing this DVD 2x a week for several months. I bought this 3 months after my surgery after I got my doctor's clearance and have used it since. Cueing and instruction is great - you can tell Karen is a pro. Anyone with back pain I recommend this video as long as you have your doctor's clearance - a strong core is key and this works the major and majority of key muscles. - posted by KO on 11/15/2008
smooth yet tough
I am an intermediate/advanced exerciser and I am new to pilates. Karen makes it unintimidating and do-able. Her incredibly smooth transitions keep you busy enough to never look at the clock. Karen's cuing makes you feel confident because you stay with the moves. This dvd combines a nice stretch, major core and back work, and with that, a great sweat. Enjoyable, effective workout
I'm new to pilates/core type of exercise, and I really enjoyed this workout! The movements were challenging but doable / modifiable, and the time just flew by! I'm an inch taller already!
Just kidding! But I definitely feel an inch taller after doing this workout. Like other reviewers, I was looking for a workout that would strengthen my back as well as my abs - "Abs and Back" fits the bill. I did the workout for the first time last night; this morning, I can feel all the muscles in my lower back (in a good way). FINALLY A PILATES WORKOUT I LOVE

Now I enjoy pilates!

Reading a Time Graph

Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.
