Time graph for Karen Voight's Pilates Abs & Back

Combines Pilates-inspired movements with classic abdominal toning. You’ll increase the strength and flexibility of your “core” muscles, the muscles that support and stabilize your entire body. Karen’s unique complementary design optimizes safety and effectiveness. For example, a contracting movement is followed by a lengthening motion. Or a back-muscle move is followed by an ab routine (usually integrating the legs and arms to vary the intensity). Lots of modifications, exquisite cuing and quiet instrumental music. ©2000.

Karen Voight's Pilates Abs & Back

Karen's done it again!
This is a great workout and has really helped me tone my core. I was an advanced exerciser and had to have back surgery a few years ago (microdiscetomy)due to a freak accident. This has really helped me strengthen my core so I can go back to doing the exercises that I love (running, tennis, dance). My neurosurgeon also noticed a difference in my core strength & muscles after doing this DVD 2x a week for several months. I bought this 3 months after my surgery after I got my doctor's clearance and have used it since. Cueing and instruction is great - you can tell Karen is a pro. Anyone with back pain I recommend this video as long as you have your doctor's clearance - a strong core is key and this works the major and majority of key muscles. - posted by KO on 11/15/2008
smooth yet tough
I am an intermediate/advanced exerciser and I am new to pilates. Karen makes it unintimidating and do-able. Her incredibly smooth transitions keep you busy enough to never look at the clock. Karen's cuing makes you feel confident because you stay with the moves. This dvd combines a nice stretch, major core and back work, and with that, a great sweat. I just love it! - posted by LK on 8/27/2007
Enjoyable, effective workout
I'm new to pilates/core type of exercise, and I really enjoyed this workout! The movements were challenging but doable / modifiable, and the time just flew by! Karen continally and consistently produces awesome effective workouts, and here's another one, she's one of my favorite instructors. Practice and persistence pays off! - posted by glb on 6/26/2007

GREAT KAREN WORKOUT!
I'm doing her videos for 15 years and always enjoy seeing this one in the roation! - posted by Sara Goldenberg on 4/18/2007
I'm an inch taller already!
Just kidding! But I definitely feel an inch taller after doing this workout. Like other reviewers, I was looking for a workout that would strengthen my back as well as my abs - "Abs and Back" fits the bill. I did the workout for the first time last night; this morning, I can feel all the muscles in my lower back (in a good way). I'm sure this routine will help my sports and weightlifting. - posted by RedPanda on 3/16/2007
FINALLY A PILATES WORKOUT I LOVE
I did this workout for the first time today and enjoyed it very much. I'm new to Karen and really loved her coaching. I workout 5-6 days a week and found this to be a challenging core workout. - posted by Carmen on 11/22/2006
Now I enjoy pilates!
I tried other pilates tapes before and I just never got the hang of it. But Karen's instruction and cues really helped me understand and perform the moves properly. I felt a difference right away. - posted by Kathy on 6/25/2006
WONDERFUL!
This is an excellent workout not only for your abs and back, but also for flexibility. I became a lot more flexible after doing this workout on a regular basis. It even has improved my posture and I look forward to doing this one on my Pilates/stretch day in my rotation. Leave it to Karen to come up with another winner of a workout! She always gives helpful hints, too, on how to be doing the moves correctly. GREAT JOB, KAREN, and I for one, was happy to (not) see Kathy in this workout. I don't know why, but she really bugged me in Karen's other workouts! P.S.(This workout has also been titled 'Pilates Core Power'). - posted by MRS on 2/21/2006
Get this video you won't regret it
I bought this video because I have a weak back & was looking for a core strengthening workout. I popped this in the VCR after recovering from spraining my lower back recently. The video is great! I wish I had started to use it right away instead of keeping it aside for months in favour of my more familiar workouts. The music is appropriate & classy. The setting is warm & cosy & simple. Karen's figure & form are great & she cues expertly. The moves are fluid & she moves with ease from back to ab exercises. Her explanations are clear & she tells you the purpose of each stretch & where to focus on. After doing this for only 3 times, i felt my ab endurance improve & was able to complete other ab workouts i had tried & quit before. She also teaches you to activate your back muscles & it has helped my weights routine as i can now "feel" my back muscles working. I now have a stronger & leaner core & less "jiggle" in the abs, something i had only dreamed of before. This video has done in a week what months of traditional ab crunches could not do. I can't recommend this enough, especially for people with problem abs. - posted by MK Lau on 2/4/2006
Nice Workout
This is a nice workout, not the most challenging ab workout I did but definetly a nice change from the regular classic pilates moves , Karen Voight adds her own twist to it & she's a great instructor. - posted by Yoni on 11/29/2005
