A unique hybrid of dance and fitness. These routines have the grace of ballet and the intensity of “hard core” body sculpting. After a flowing, rhythmic warm-up, you’ll move into the dance-inspired standing toning. Examples: a squat becomes a relevé. Or a plié becomes an extended-leg plié, which then rotates (so the entire sequence almost seems “choreographed”). The floor section is also unique — a blend of yoga, Pilates and traditional toning (e.g. a downward dog transitions into a plank; that plank turns into a “side plank” and it all evolves into a push-up). Throughout, Kari’s perfect technique improves both motivation and effectiveness (she won’t let you “cheat”). ©2005. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Kari Anderson's Reach

Love It!
I've purchased dozens of fitness DVD's, and this is the first time I've felt strongly enough about a routine to write a review. I highly recommend this workout. It really will change your shape for the better! For years I've done the Firm, Jari and Cathe. I've been looking for something that's lower impact but still advanced. You'll put on long, lean muscle practicing with Kari. Her cueing is excellent, and I like the music. I reach for this DVD frequently. :) - posted by Stephanie on 12/21/2009
Love it
I was looking for a ballet-inspired workout to supplement my weekly ballet class. This isn't a ballet class, but it is great for helping improve my balance, flexibility and strength in the areas needed for dance. It's challenging without being impossible, and it gets my heart rate going. It's my favorite workout video right now. - posted by Marie on 3/28/2009
WOW!! AMAZING!!
I can't believe I had this sitting in my stack of DVDs for months!! I decided to give it a try today and all I have to say is WOW!! It's such a GREAT workout!!! It has so much variety and time flies by. I can't believe I sweat really good with this workout. This is a KEEPER!! Great job Kari! - posted by Ivy on 12/3/2008
Easy it is not!
I pulled this out for the first time today, because I wasn't in the mood for an intense workout, and wanted something "light". HA! Boy, was I in for a surprise! While this isn't the most hardcore workout in existence, it certainly was not anything close to easy like I was expecting, and it really worked me good from head to toe. I didn't think I could get so sweaty doing this type of workout, and wow, my abs were certainly challenged! I guess I don't need Cathe and Jillian every day of the week after all. ;) - posted by Steph on 11/28/2008
A new goal--REACH
I have several years of experience in yoga. I would definitely rate this DVD advanced. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoy it and it completely kicks my butt. I have Kari Anderson's Angles, Lines, Curves II which I also like very much but if you want more of a rigorous dance-type workout, this is it. Kari is great with her cuing and encouraging attitude. Can't wait to do it again. I feel like it's really toning me all over and I like the challenge. - posted by marquita on 10/4/2008
really enjoyed
Normally, I work out with cathe and Jari, so this was very different than what I'm used to. I enjoyed it very much. I would say it is 80% intermediate and 20% advanced, has some great lower body toning. I will save this for my lighter days, maybe Sundays. I think this will help a lot with flexibility and balance. - posted by c on 7/6/2008
Awesome!
I love this workout! Most importantly, it has really helped my lower back and butt pain from piriformis syndrome. For years I did tons of yoga thinking it would help and it actually made it worse. After doing this routine for a few weeks my pain is almost gone. Plus, it's lots of fun! - posted by Ruth on 6/27/2008
My first time I'm motivated to write a review!
OK I just got finish doing this workout and my first reaction is 'wow!' I can't say that I have more to add than the previous reviews (especially given it's part of what helped me make the decision to get this DVD). I would like to say that I'm VERY glad that I did. I personally find ballet, pilates, & yoga - separately - very boring however would never argue their benefits. This DVD allows me to incorporate them all while keeping my attention & I felt great when I was done! Kari's a great instructor & the music is perfect. I originally thought I would use this on Sundays only to help stretch my muscles a bit, now I will be incorporating it into my workout week at least twice if not 3 times a week. I can't wait to see how this DVD is going to make my body look at 40 years old! - posted by Steph on 5/25/2008
Great Workout!!!!
I've always loved the pace and whole idea behind yoga but honestly found it boring. I came across this dvd and thought I would give it a try. Boy!!, am I glad I did. Kari's moves are simple and fluid AND they sure will kick your butt. This is such an amazing workout. I felt great after my first workout and my whole body was sore the next day not a bad sore but a good sore. I know this workout will transform my body and I can't wait!!!! - posted by NATASHA on 5/16/2008
Ingenious Workout!
This is by far the best workout I have ever done. The way she works the different muscles and muscle groups is clever and ingenious! I feel toned, and invigorated after each workout! It's listed as muscle toning, but I feel like I've gotten a good cardio workout as well. The sweat just pours out! This will be a regular in my rotation. - posted by Melanie on 4/18/2008

Reading a Time Graph

Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
