Certified instructor description:
A unique hybrid of dance and fitness. These routines have the grace of ballet and the intensity of “hard core” body sculpting. After a flowing, rhythmic warm-up, you’ll move into the dance-inspired standing toning. Examples: a squat becomes a relevé. Or a plié becomes an extended-leg plié, which then rotates (so the entire sequence almost seems “choreographed”). The floor section is also unique — a blend of yoga, Pilates and traditional toning (e.g. a downward dog transitions into a plank; that plank turns into a “side plank” and it all evolves into a push-up). Throughout, Kari’s perfect technique improves both motivation and effectiveness (she won’t let you “cheat”). ©2005. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Kari Anderson's Reach

Wonderful
I just did this workout yesterday after not having done it for a long time. It is an amazingly feel good workout. By adhering to Kari's direction and keeping my abs engaged throughout, I felt it from the start. (As a side note, I was wearing weighted gloves from Rodney Yee's Yoga Burn, not sure how much they weigh) Anyhow, Kari is flawless as an instructor; her form is excellent as always. I love this DVD for days when I want to slow down, be more in tune to my muscles, my body. The abs section is especially good. :) - posted by Sara on 10/12/2011
Definitely a 5-star workout!
None of the moves in this routine are impossible to do, but they do require composure and balance. If you don't have that, this video can help you build them :-). The standing work flows beautifully and is my favorite portion. The floor work has a nice variety of exercises. Some are definitely advanced level. If you're not advanced, you can easily modify them. For some of the exercises she does demonstrate multiple levels. It's obvious that Kari is a very skilled instructor who takes her work seriously and likes to produce a quality video that delivers results. The only slightly negative comment I have is that the set/wardrobe are shades of rather dull, neutral tones that don't seem to compliment the workout. Overall, I strongly recommend this one. - posted by Patty - Chicago on 2/8/2011
My favorite!
This is truly my most favorite workout video in my collection. Kari is beautiful to watch and listen to, and her cueing is superb. The moves can be as difficult as you want them to be, and I always feel good after I do the workout. I am hoping she will make a sequel to this one. - posted by Lisa on 12/27/2010
Definitely need to be fairly flexible
Very nice workout! Definitely not for a beginner if you are not already fairly flexible. I felt muscles that I have not felt for awhile. A definite keeper. - posted by Nancy on 10/21/2010
I like it!
I almost didn't get this DVD because it just looked too easy. It sure isn't! I get a great lower body and ab workout from this each time and I sweat quite a bit! I don't have any ballet experience, so that section was the most challenging for me; the yoga and pilates sections were easier, but not too easy. Great workout overall. - posted by Tess on 10/15/2010
Thorougly Enjoy!
I teach a variety of classes at our local gym and am finding that for years the importance of balance and flexibility training has been overlooked. This DVD focuses on both aspects in an appealing manner. Kari's voice and cues are motivating and informative. The workout is doable and yet challenging. - posted by Sharon on 10/7/2010
REACH: A SUBTLE WORKOUT THAT BUILDS
I was looking for a w/o that would offer greater toning/ sculpting for my legs...weights can't do it all. I purchased "Reach" based up comments/feedback in Collage's forum. This is a very good fusion w/o that slowly creeps up on you....it looks simple but once you start doing it, you'll need balance, proper technique, strength, posture and lots more to execute the moves. Don't think the is a cardio w/o, because it "officially" isn't. However, it does get the heart pumping in parts. The arm work isn't much (push-ups, side planks, planks)in this w/o; the main focus is on legs followed by core/abs. Arms are a distant third. This is my first Kari and her manner is lovely. Her voice is calm, relaxed and soft (but still can be heard over the cool music.) If ballet, Pilates or yoga fusion w/o are not your thing, pass this by. If, however, you want something new or want fantastic legs, get this. Dancers have fab legs and who wouldn't want that too? - posted by SMT on 8/28/2010
nice, easy to follow
Solid stretching/toning workout that is very well cued. The reason for my four-star rating is that the workout is not "advanced." I thought it was a bit easy. - posted by deenie on 8/28/2010

It is amazing exercise! I am doing pilates and Yoga for 7 years! It was a great challenge! Thank you, the sky is the limit... - posted by Merav on 7/15/2010
sweet dvd
I've been playing roller derby for 2 years now and find my body has been quite tight lately. I purchased this video to help loosen me up and it has been helping me do exactly that. I've done it a few times after the treadmill too which I love since I'm super warmed up. Very happy I purchased this dvd. :) - posted by Jennifer on 6/24/2010

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
