Certified instructor description: A true fitness-style workout created for 6 to 11-year-olds. It’s designed to increase confidence, coordination and energy. Everyone is having lots of fun, but this is a “real” class — Kari uses moves that are fluid, kid-friendly and easy to follow. She teaches eight complete combos, each one a mix of high-energy upper and lower-body movements. The exercises range from stomps and kicks to pivot turns and twists (all with cute names like “macaroni” and “stir it up”). The workout ends with a faster-paced “challenge song” — featuring all eight combos in a non-stop dance sequence. ©2005.

Kari Anderson's Shake: Workout for Kids

learning some coordination:-)
okay, so as we've begun this, i can tell you how it's going:-) we started with the cool down, as it's the slowest routine on the video. we have now also done the first routine. will be a week or two before we move into the second routine. proper form for health and effectiveness are so important! so we're practicing one routine at a time, till they get it right. i have enjoyed kari as an instructor myself, which is why i chose her video. i love her smile, modest dress, and the smiles and modest dress of the child actors. however, i do not appreciate the attitude kari puts on, and so condones. it's a real trendy attitude, i understand, but not what i teach my children. at first glance, i figured my kids would know it's not appropriate, which they do:-) that said, as we do the video repeatedly, i just plain get tired of hearing it. it is not language or tone that i accept from my children, and certainly not something i want to hear from an adult. so often adults put on an attitude to seem cool, and it's just a poor example. i think kari means well, and i appreciate that she wants to encourage kids to exercise. it will be a long time getting good at this video. as an adult, it takes me ages to get good at a video, and i am used to aerobics. it's all new for my kids, like a foreign body language:-) so it will take time. but we are up for the challenge! once we finally get this video down, my kids will be so confident in the abilities God has given their bodies! so thanks! - posted by blaky on 2/2/2012
Great for Kids!
This is a really fun upbeat workout for kids. My kids really enjoyed it and have a lot of fun doing it. They don't care that it is a workout. The cuing and breakdowns are better than most kids workouts, but still could be a little better. - posted by Amy on 12/1/2011
Energy Plus!
What a fun workout to do with my grandchildren!! Karen and her group of kids are energy plus! I am 66 and a dedicated exerciser. I rarely miss a day. One of my motivations for trying to stay in shape is to keep up with my 14 grandchildren, aged 5 to 14. I bought this DVD recently and did the routine with four of my grandchildren when they were visiting for a few days. It was hard enough for the older kids and easy enough for the 5 year old. It was also just about right for me and we had a lot of fun doing it together. The best part is that I don't have to give up my workout when my kids and grandkids come to visit. - posted by Rita on 4/7/2011
Boys like it too!
My ten-year old son was always wanting to do my workout videos with me, but they are a "little" more challenging than most kids are up for. So, I started looking for a kids' video and found this. At first this video seemed a little bit too fast-paced for him. But, after he did it a few times, he started understanding the moves and choreography a lot more. Now, he giggles while he's doing it, and he loves it. He also really likes that there is a boy in the video, so he doesn't feel like it's just a "girly video". - posted by Lori on 3/10/2011
FUN!
My 10 year old daughter really enjoyed it and her main reaction was it was a lot of fun. (I do have to say that my husband got a little tired of hearing the instructor but I didn't mind.) - posted by Kristin on 3/10/2011
A Big Hit
I used this with a group of 8 year olds and they absolutely loved all the moves! I will certainly use it again with them as it certainly had them up and moving. We were also able to use it in a limited space with success. Thank you Kari for the great DVD. - posted by Linda on 11/10/2010

I have a 9 year old girl and a 6 year old boy who both had a lot of fun with this video. Kari's style was fun and easy for them to follow--they loved it! - posted by Jessica on 10/12/2010

my kinder, 1st, and 2nd graders, boys and girls, seem to enjoy the movement offered in this dvd. i like it because it keeps the kids moving without time to become placent or bored. - posted by marc on 9/16/2010
Kids will love it!
I recently ordered the "Shake" DVD for my kids, a boy and a girl. They both love to work out with me if they wake up in time but, get bored pretty quickly with yoga! When we put this in they were both extremely interested - my 5 year old daughter actually finished it. It has taken a little time but now they ask to do the workout rather than me suggesting it. My only suggestion would have been to put Kari into actual work out clothes. I tried it in my jeans and it was hard! - posted by Kacey on 4/16/2010

Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
