Certified instructor description: Both workouts feature traditional poses led by a very down-to-earth instructor. But, in addition to focusing on correct form, Kathryn also emphasizes the joy and playfulness of yoga ("let go of fear, move back to a place of love" or "smile, stay connected and enjoy the ride"). The first program is a classic vinyasas series. It begins with sun salutations and advances into corework. The second program is more diverse and more challenging. It includes planks, crow poses, dolphins and crescents. You also get some unusually fast-paced sequences and even a "thriller pickup" move (rocking forward, lifting yourself into the air). DVD also includes a third "tutorial practice" (9 minutes). ©2011. Note: Program was originally released as "Aim True Yoga."

Kathryn Budig's Quick Start Yoga Beginners & More

Okay
Let me start by saying that I really like the instructor. She's pleasant, low key and funny, and I wish I liked the workout more. I don't find the beginner workout to be that "beginner," and I've been doing yoga for a long time. She doesn't show or suggest any modifications at all (those bent over one-legged jumps, for instance, are almost impossible if you can't get your hands flat on the floor). She also speeds through things, but doesn't give clear verbal cues when your head is down or away from the TV. I thought the two workouts were very similar, level-wise, the first is just shorter. - posted by Jamie on 3/14/2013
good starting video
I am 40, and out of shape. this video was appropriate. There are parts two weeks in I still cannot do. There is a lot of up, arms above your head straight to down, pushup position. I have had a double mastectomy and found this a bit hard on my scar tissue in my pecs. It is beginner, but not easy. The instructor is clear, and not annoying. I made my eleven yr old do it with me. it will be easier to do the head down positions after we learn the routine a bit better. it is hard to follow what is on a screen if your head is facing out mostly. - posted by jen on 2/14/2013
great yoga
Instructor is fun and this yoga dvd is great. I have been doing yoga for several years and wanted a quick dvd to do at home - loved it! - posted by Melissa on 1/25/2013
Too hard for a beginner who isn't 20
Okay, what is with this penchant to sweep everyone into the DVD when it is clearly not for the joint aging. I'm in good condition, work out 3-6 times a week. Walk a good five miles living in the city and with buses, etc? But this. Resold what I bought given it hurt my knee in 10 minutes. If you're young, terrific. If you are older, be careful. - posted by Candace on 1/17/2013
Challenging...

Challenging...
This was more challenging than it looked when I first previewed it. I started with the intermediate practice and found that it takes yoga further than most videos. Kathryn gets into poses that will take you into future arm balances (which is what she's known for) and other challenging poses. She has a playful attitude and injects humor into the practice. I even found the beginner practice a little challenging too, but a little slower paced than the intermediate one. I found the instructional part where she breaks down difficult poses to be more of a review (for me) as I already know how to do half moon, crow and am working on headstand. It does provide direction for those who would like to learn those poses or learn to do them better. I would not recommend this video for true beginners, but for those who have a little more experience with yoga and want to advance. - posted by Tess on 11/11/2012
Very enjoyable
Really liked this workout. A bit different compared with other yoga workouts. - posted by Cathy on 11/8/2012
Great, Unique Yoga DVD
I love this yoga DVD. It is challenging, but not TOO challenging (I can at least ATTEMPT all of the moves), unique, and different but enjoyable. I pull this out when I want to do a yoga workout that is just a little bit different and fun. Great, thorough instruction, and the workout feels empowering. - posted by Elizabeth on 9/30/2012
Best Yoga DVD EVER!!
This is the best yoga video I own or have ever done. This is also not like anything I have ever done. Kathryn does not begin with sun salutations and build. Instead, this video (intermediate workout) starts with ab strengthening and moves to balances. If you can't/don't do arm balances, it does not matter. This DVD teaches how to prepare for them with the goal of being capable of doing them. There are also leg balances, and yes, there are sun salutations -- just with a twist. The beginner session is also great because again, Kathryn really focuses on how to achieve yoga poses. There is never an expectation that someone viewing the DVD is already a yogi. Lastly, the tutorial is fantastic -- Kathryn breaks down some of the most difficult poses in yoga so that anyone can learn how to do them. I highly recommend this DVD to anyone who wants to give yoga a try, especially if you are intimidated by any other DVD or class available. FANTASTIC video!! - posted by Elaine on 9/21/2012
Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
