Certified instructor description: Direct from the 1980’s (remember those leg warmers?) this DVD has three of Kathy Smith’s earliest workouts. “Body Basics” begins with upper-body toning and ends with classic, lower-body floorwork. In between is straight-forward, low-impact aerobics. “Winning Workout” also includes both aerobics and toning. The mixed-impact aerobics is easy-to-follow and a little dancy. The toning is structured in three different modules you’ll work at one level for four weeks and then move up to the next module. “Fat Burning Workout” is just 38 minutes of low-impact, calorie-blasting cardio. The moves range from lunges and marches to simple cha chas and step crosses. All three programs feature corner-of-the-screen video insets that zoom in to emphasize correct form and positioning. “Winning Workout” requires 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells and 2 to 5 lb. ankle weights. ©1985, 1987, 1988. DVD has: Chapter menus, Close captions, Region 1.

Kathy Smith's Fat Burning Classics

A great workout
I had the video version of Kathy's Smith's Fat Burning Workout years ago. It is my go to workout to get back into exercising again. It is a great workout. I love this workout so much, that I haven't even tried the other 2 workouts on the DVD. Kathy Smith is fabulous, the workout is effective, cuing is on target and it is was easy to follow. I can't say enough great things about this DVD. I'm 59 and it is not a problem for me to keep up. Anybody can start out with this workout. - posted by Barbara on 5/3/2012
Great idea
I love the idea of compressing several videos into 1 DVD. I hope this will be a trend. I have so many videos and it takes up so much space but I don't want to give them up. - posted by Laurette on 4/27/2012
Kathy Smith video

Back to Kathy!
I've just turned 46 and have been reasonably active my whole life. Lately, I've gained a few pounds (perimeno) and I'm not as quick with the aerobics moves as I once was!! I'm also a tall girl which means I'm even slower at times. I'm back to Kathy, especially to the old 80's workouts I used to love, b/c I find with these workouts I can ramp up on good days and slow down on achy days. Thank you so much for bring them back! - posted by Caroline on 1/18/2012
YEAH, BABY!
OMG - I lost my baby weight 22 years ago with these workouts. We were so broke I didn't even buy them, I borrowed them from the library and alternated week to week - and they worked! I'm so happy they're still around and we have more money so I can buy them! What a blast... and really effective, too. I highly recommend these to anybody. To the younger gals, this is the real deal. After all these years, Kathy is still hot. You will be very jealous you can't have the super fabulous outfits we used to wear, but hey, we can all have super fabulous bods. Nobody knows how to rock it like Kathy. - posted by Missy on 12/30/2011
Kathy's Fat Burning Workout
This is a classic and I was delighted to find it again. There are NO, repeat NO floor exercises but you still get a first class workout. Results are almost immediate - legs, abs, arms, tubby, tush - all going back to where they belong! Thank you for reissuing. - posted by Val on 6/24/2010
Body Basics is Timeless
I was so glad to see Body Basics on DVD. I had the VHS back in the day! 100% 80's, but the exercises are good and never go out of style - posted by Angie on 6/17/2010
Fat Burning Workout is an old friend
This is the workout that educated me way back when I first started exercising about how to best burn fat. I've since moved on to much tougher fare like Jari Love, the occasional Cathe and Kelley Coffey-Meyer, but at 53 it serves me well to take it easy sometimes. Just yesterday I did four of Olidajide's aero-jump rope segments, then padded on Ms. Smith's Fat Burning classic. It is 38 minutes of simple moves and squats: good, clean, cheerful fun. Always great to check in on, like an old friend. - posted by Susan W. on 6/1/2010
Glad to see these back!
I had Body Basics on VHS and loved it! I just happened to check if Collage had it in DVD and BONUS, 2 other workouts. Super Excited! - posted by Angie on 5/27/2010
A blast from the past
After I had my son about 22 years ago, I discovered both the Fat Burning Workout and Winning Workout. I did Kathy's Fat Burning and the Winning Workout everyday and I drop down from 269 to 131 in a year. This time I put the weight back on and I decided to go back to working out with both of these classics. I feel that Fat Burning Classics is a very effective workout and I know I will reach my goal weight once again. It worked before and it will work again. Thank you so much Collage for bringing back the Kathy Smith workouts. - posted by Alena on 5/27/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus

You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

X
Workout 1: Basic
Workout 2: Moderate
Workout 3: Moderate
Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
