Certified instructor description: A non-intimidating and very well-structured introduction to bellydance. You’ll learn the patterns in the slow/sensual warm-up, then use those motions in the faster-paced aerobic workout (as Kathy says, it’s “a hip-shakin’, calorie-burnin’, hot and sexy routine”). Assisted by bellydance professional Ansuya Rathor, Kathy’s moves range from basic hip circles and shimmies to more exotic “Camels” and “Umis” (moves that, surprisingly, work all areas of your body including your hips, abs and arms). You’ll finish with a unique stretch segment — a fluid blend of yoga, Pilates and dancers’ deep stretches. Includes a short one-on-one bellydance tutorial at the end. Traditional costumes and authentic Middle-eastern instrumental music. ©2004. DVD has: Chapter menus, Close captions, Region 1.

Kathy Smith's Flex Appeal Bellydance

Hated it !
Some of Kathy's belly dancing moves were awkward at best and the belly dancers behind Kathy were better at it then her. You wont break a sweat doing this dvd. It was the worst dvd I ever bought. - posted by Ellie on 10/2/2011
Exercise that doesn't feel like exercise
I got this DVD because I'm taking belly dancing lessons now and wanted something to supplement what I was learning. I have a lot of fun with this one, especially the fast workout. Kathy Smith is far from perfect which is fine with me. I watch Ansuya behind her for perfect form. And I've improved a lot in my dance class as a result of the extra "practice" I'm getting. I'm all for exercise that feels more like fun than work! - posted by Rhonda on 7/27/2011
Challenging & Sensual
I took belly dancing lessons in the mid-eighties, and this DVD refreshed my memory (and body). It is certainly possible to work up a sweat belly dancing: the basic movements are fairly compact and recruit many oft-neglected muscles. I find I must be really relaxed and focused, yet in a sensual mood, to fully enjoy this workout. The music is great also! (I bought belly dancing hip scarfs and accessories, which really completed the picture.) - posted by Casey on 7/24/2011
Bellydance
It was fun watching and I picked up a few things I had not known. I did like the cool down exercises. - posted by Heide on 7/7/2011
loving it
I love the kathy smith bellydance dvd. I use to borrow it from the library and keep it to late. I end up pay more on late fee then buying it from college video. Thank you - posted by moeleka on 3/31/2011

Kathy Smith Flex Appeal Bellydance
I am loving this workout. It's fun and challenging. It's a nice change from my distance running and weight training. It's going to take a while to get my body doing what it is supposed to do here but that's good too. I like a challenge and I like to mix up my work outs. It's well thought out (I wouldn't expect anything less from Kathy Smith). Although, I know I am working my core a lot, I almost don't think of it as a workout - more of a little silly fun time just for me. - posted by Bev on 2/17/2011
Kathy Smith knows how to belly dance
Kathy knows the movements, her teaching techniques do not fit this style of dance. It's fun to dance along with and the music is inspiring, but for this 50 year old looking for new routines to liven up my workouts, I would give it a pass. - posted by Linda on 1/28/2011
Flex Appeal
I found this video very easy to follow. The music was good and I enjoy exercising to this video. I would love to see some more bellydance videos. I think a video with bellydance floor work would be nice. Also, I would be interested in a video with veil work. Overall, I think this video is great. - posted by Kirsten on 11/27/2010
Fun Effective Workout
Lot's of belly dance moves and core work. Kathy is not a perfect belly dancer which made it less intimidating. I felt anyone could do this workout and feel good about themselves. I have done both sequences back to back and not felt it until later. This is nice contrast to other workouts caused pain or had expectations beyond my abilities. This is a good one for folks like me who are working toward better health and agility. - posted by Juli on 11/6/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
