Time graph for Kathy Smith's Yoga Sculpt
Three complete workouts on one DVD — two classic yoga programs and a lower-body toning workout. Both of the yoga workouts combine beautiful photography with a down-to-earth, non-intimidating style (e.g. “it’s okay if you have to bend at the knees…”). Never “mystical” or “new-agey,” Kathy -- and her co-instructor, Rod Stryker -- feature straight-forward instruction and lots of flexibility/level options (e.g. using a stretched towel to hold your leg in position). The first program, “New Yoga” is an intermediate level workout. The poses range from easy stretches to a few more intense positions (e.g. standing on one leg). The second program, “New Yoga Challenge” is intermediate/advanced level. It’s "power yoga," -- a flowing series of athletic-style poses that often incorporate a significant toning element (e.g. “yoga gut work”). The third program on the DVD is “Functionally Fit Lower Body Firming.” Intermediate-level and not yoga-based, it’s an all-standing workout that firms your hips, buns and thighs by working multiple muscle groups at once. The routines are especially designed to improve “functionality” -- the motions used in everyday living (e.g. lots of squat variation, ideal for lifting heavy items off the floor). ©1994, 1995, 1996. Kathy Smith's Yoga Sculpt

great mix
This dvd has 2 yoga workouts-new yoga int and new yoga challenge adv plus functionally fit lower body parts 1 and 2.Each yoga is about 1 hr and each functionally fit segment is 20 min.The functionally fit is easy on the knees and is a great workout. The 2 yoga workouts are chaptered and you can do the standing or floor work separately or all combined. There is good instruction on the poses and they're not done too fast plus there's a great variety of poses.I must mention on the dvd I bought there is a mistake on the printed cover as it says the 2 yoga workouts inside are new yoga basics beginner-which is another workout plus the correct new yoga challenge. - posted by Dulcy on 10/28/2008
Worth it for the lower body workout!
I'm a beginner/intermediate exerciser, so the Int/Adv. yoga was beyond my abilities. And that set felt way too goofy and new-agey for my taste, so that's why I give it 4 stars. However, the add'l lower body workout is excellent (and done on a more standard set)!! This one's a keeper for the lower body workout alone. Squats with terrific form instruction ("if you feel it more in your quads or knees, sit back more into the hips"). I have one bad knee, and this workout gave it no troubles. Really great for the butt, thighs, & hips. Doing this workout a couple of times per week, I have no doubt there will be an incredible improvement. If you want a really effective butt and leg workout in 30 min., I highly recommend! - posted by Julia on 8/29/2008
loved'em before, now in dvd
I am slowly but surely replacing all my vhs w/ dvds, and so I was glad to get this at such a great price and w/ a lower body as a workout as a bonus as well! I love Rod S. and Karhy working together. The yoga they present is just excellent, and since of course yoga is ageless it doesn't matter how old the workout is. Even if you are a beginner you could purchase this dvd and do what you can do since everything is so well presented and the flow is just right. Just yoga-y enough not to be pretentious too! What could be better in terms of presentation and value than this little gem of a dvd Been doing yoga for years and this has been one of my favs since it came out! - posted by jewelcee on 2/10/2008

Great work outs but not so new....
Kathy is a great instructor and I probably own all or most of her videos before DVD.The three segments were actually tapes.I have to say 12 years ago I learned my very first Yoga poses with Kathy's Tape of begining, intermediate and adv.yoga, later sold seperately.I learned correct posture and modifications. It still is a great workout. The last part of this DVD was or is a march/interval/tone aerobic tape which I also liked alot since it was accomodating to small workout spaces while still getting a great workout. If you're a fan of Kathy's,I definitely recomend it, you'll enjoy learning yoga or advancing in it. You will also like the toning workout. This one is also "pre-cheerleading shout" days. She's still herself but a notch down in zeal! ;-p - posted by Nechyfer on 8/27/2006

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
