Time graph for Kathy's Power Walk for Weight Loss
Walking-based moves that use dumbbells and faster-paced “bursts” to increase intensity. The steps are super-easy to follow — mostly simple marches and jogs, with varying tempos and directions (nothing more complicated than lunges or step touches). It starts with an aero/tone segment that uses dumbbells to add resistance and tone your upper body. That’s followed by a quick-tempo, pure-cardio section and then a standing, core-focused toning sequence. A unique element — Arizona-style desert scenery is superimposed behind Kathy and her age 20-ish exercisers (sort of like they’re exercising outdoors). Requires 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2006. DVD has: Chapter menus, Region 1.

Kathy's Power Walk for Weight Loss

Love It!!!
This Dvd is a little off beat but that's why it is so good. It was filmed in a unique way and presents some different walking moves. Her cuing is not bad, but it is not great but the routine is simple enough to learn after the first time through. It's fun, different and you will get a good work out. - posted by Kelly on 2/11/2010
Yuck
I bought this just to add a little variety to my walking workouts and had enjoyed a previous Kathy workout. While I like the individual moves, (one star), this never got my heart rate up because as another reviewer said, she keeps stopping. People disappear behind the fake overlays that are suppose to look like a barn, ranch entrance, etc. As Kathy yells, she's in the studio, but the group, with the painted on smiles is somewhere else, so they don't react. It's freaky. The jumping around between desert and studio is disconcerting, as is the shadow around Kathy when she's inserted into the group. Arizona's deserts are beautiful and you don't need fake scenery, as Denise Austin has shown. As for the matrix...puleeze! I'll stick with Leslie for my walks. - posted by Phoenix on 2/1/2010
Is there an anti-Kathy movement?
I don't understand why anyone would so passionately hate this workout. It really rather good. The switching from one "fake" background to another is so obvious, I thought it quite witty. Its a great bargain, better than a Leslie Sansone tape, and there young people in it! - posted by Robin on 1/13/2010
Even the Cute Guys Can't Save This One
I'm a Kathy Smith fan, but this DVD is just terrible. First, it doesn't provide much of a workout because she keeps having you stop and do the "toning exercises". Second, the actual cardio part itself is repetitive and much too light. I got better results by jogging in place! I'm bummed that I wasted the money on this one. It's just awful, and even the two cute guys in the background can't redeem it! - posted by Hilarie on 12/9/2009
It's a B movie gone bad
This workout is sooo incredibly cheesy. The fake backgrounds are horrible. I can't do the workout because it's so cheesy. Kathy Smith should be ashamed. - posted by Kathy on 10/17/2009
great dvd!
I am recently getting back into exercising after a long hiatus and thought I would start out with an easy workout. Boy was I wrong about this workout. It got my heartrate up even though I modified some moves and the next day I felt a pleasant soreness in my obliques! My first "video" was Kathy Smith back in the early 80's so it feels like visiting an old friend. I don't mind her "hollering", it just shows that you can have fun while working out. - posted by mary on 9/28/2009
I like it!!!
I get a good workout out of this dvd. The first time I tried it I got a decent sweat and elevated heart rate out of it. I felt energized after doing it, more than I thought I would. It's different from Kathy's other videos. She does get a little goofy in some parts, but that's what I enjoy about her workouts. This will definitely be one of my top five workouts to do on a regular basis. - posted by Marci on 9/7/2009
Cheesy quality, not up to Kathy's normal standard
Of all the Kathy Smith videos I've seen, this was the worst. Unfortunately, the concept was good, especially the standing ab work, but it didn't live up to its potential. It seemed to be cheaply made, with little concern for quality. The backgrounds were awful, going from a soundstage to outdoors to a combination. There were a lot of miscues & Kathy wasn't always doing the same exercises as the other participants. Definitely not up to Kathy's norm. - posted by Meg on 8/29/2009
Gets heartrate up and works your abs
And that's all I ask for in a workout video. I am a long time Kathy fan- my first workout video was a Kathy Smith tape. Although I do agree this workout can be cheesy, my heartrate was up, I was sweating- and all at a medium impact pace. I am in my forties, so I don't like to jump as much as I did 10 years ago. The ab work is great- and there's alot of it. This workout also alternates between working your core and aerobic activity. I highly recommend this workout if you like aerobic, ab and basic strength movements. The stretch at the end was really awesome too! Today is the second time I did this, and I loved it even more than the first time! - posted by Joanne on 8/12/2009
I Like It!
I must be one of the few who like this DVD.....I love Leslie S., but wanted something different...I found Chris Fretag, Debbie Rocker, Madeline Lewis, Petra Kolleba, and now Kathy Smith. Well......yes the hootin' and hollering...we just laugh at it.....yea too much moving of the background, but it does manage to keep the heart rate at a good pace. I work-out 5 - 6 days a week doing varying cardio levels.....bootcamp, interval-type, and Leslie. During the long fall/winter/spring....it is a nice change of pace from just Leslie only. - posted by Old_Lady on 8/5/2009

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
