Certified instructor description: A creatively sequenced series of progressively-more-challenging workouts. You’ll start with Level 1 and gradually advance to Level 6 over a six-week period (burning calories and building strength as you go). It has 18 primary workouts: six resistance, six cardio and six core. “Resistance” shapes your entire body with a huge variety of kettlebell-specific body-sculptors. “Cardio” features aero/tone intervals — an alternating mix of kettlebell toning and mixed-impact, non-kettlebell aerobics (e.g. jumping jacks, squat thrusts). “Core” combines traditional core exercises with innovative variations. You also get six additional “express” programs done at three levels. “Fast Abs” features extended corework, while “Fast Fat Burn” blends the cardio and toning. Everything is exceptionally well-produced and well-edited (often using the same video footage in multiple workouts). Expertly led by Ryan Shanahan. This is a 6-DVD set that has the 24 complete workouts plus a Kettleworx tutorial program. The set also includes an "e-book" -- a computer CD with 64 pages of diet and workout info you can print out. Workouts require a 5 to 15 lb. kettlebell. ©2008. DVD has: Wide screen.

KettleWorx with Ryan Shanahan

Disappointed
I went through the 6 weeks and also the six weeks of the advanced set, and I have to agree with the others that have posted about the editor of the videos. They basically filmed different exercises and used the same clips over and over, cutting them all together to make the exercise session. It was very cheaply made, they just used everything over and over even for the Ultimate Body Collection "bonus discs". The way the exercises were cut together was done poorly as well. I'd find myself going from laying on the ground exercises, to standing up, to back down again, etc. It just was annoying and not thought out well. Also, the reps aren't even, just as others have stated. I feel like overall you can learn kettle bell moves from the video, but you'd need knowledge of exercise and the ability to take the moves you've learned and make your own exercise routine to ever take anything positive away from it. I never lost any weight while doing it. I did, however, lose 30 lbs simply by working out on a bowflex machine as a total exercise novice for about 6-8 months. Kettleworx didn't effect my body, unfortunately. - posted by Cierra on 1/29/2012

Theres Good and BAD!!!
BAD - I am with the ones that think that the editor of this video should be fired. I don't know if he even went to school to learn the job. The reps are not balanced. I have found my own way to balance them. Ryan, why would you even allow this to be sold like this. Ryan looks lazy in the workouts. Did anyone even look at the dvd's before they were packaged. The warm up and cool down is to short. Poor quality moving from exercise to exercise or from set to set. Someone could have done a better job. Good - You can get a great workout from this. You have to adjust your reps to make them balance. I can't say if I would or would not recommend. I wish you could post a review to get their attention. - posted by Beth on 8/19/2011

Really good trainer, cool new exercises, but the DVD editor should be fired. - posted by Forbes on 7/16/2011
Frankenstein DVD
Somebody lower down summed it up well. "I was bored to death by the constant reuse of clips and exercises." It's just spliced together, so if an exercise is repeated then so is that section along with the same cheesy jokes. Isn't Ryan capable of doing an entire 20 minute workout? This is a very lazy way of doing things and extremely grating. - posted by Delilah on 6/12/2011

I would recommend this to a friend
KettleWorX helped me lose 1 dress size and 5 pounds in 6 weeks, which previously I couldn't shed despite years of Pilates, yoga, qi gong, and balance ball. KettleWorX relieved my back pain entirely by improving my posture. I was surprised that just a 5 pound kettlebell could be so effective. Be warned, however, that KettleWorx is very strenuous. For the first two weeks you will likely suffer delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) because of the eccentric resistance movements, even if you are already in good shape. It's worth the money, time, and effort to try this workout. BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend - posted by Theresa on 3/30/2011

Absolutely Awful!
I am an experienced kettlebell user and I received this series as a gift. I gave this series an honest try but it was just not for me. It had the potential to be a good series but was lacking in several important areas. The rep count for the exercises was often unbalanced. For the life of me I can not see why the editors did not do re-takes or fix this problem prior to the release. I was bored to death by the constant reuse of clips and exercises. The instruction was poor and many of his comments grated my nerves. I think that this series is an almost total waste of money. Please, save your money! - posted by Denise on 3/18/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Wide screen

The program fully fills a wide-screen television screen. Note: These videos will display black bars at the top and bottom on a traditional 4 x 3 ratio TV screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
