Certified instructor description: From the creator of the original Firm videos, it’s two aero/tone interval workouts. Like the 1980/1990 Firms, you get endless variety and an ornate “mansion set.” The moves include lots of ultra-effective, aerobics-with-dumbbell-toning (both as blends and as intervals) plus some Pilates and yoga. These two videos are designed as a complementary cross-training pair. “Push Pull” has a body-sculpting focus with just a few low-impact cardio segments. It works multiple muscle groups in both contraction and elongation with a fast pace and very fluid transitions. “Steamin’ Cardio” has a definite aerobic emphasis. It’s a non-stop fat-burner that features a varied cardio medley — everything from kickboxing and bootcamp to tall-step and “four limb” moves (it also includes a few short toning segments). Requires two sets of dumbbells and a high step (12-14 inches high). Featuring the original Firm’s more “serious” cuing style, these programs are led by Heidi Tanner and Kimberly Spreen. ©2005. KickButt: Push Pull & Steamin' Cardio

notbad!
ok i have a few firm dvds, however this one is alittle old school, its not bad u get a total w/out i was pleasantly surprise! My fav session is the cardio w/kim, 4u ladies out there who want a round butt...this workout is 4u! - posted by Antoinette on 5/3/2012
A good old-school style workout
Truthfully, I bought this video mainly because it was on sale and I was getting bored with my usual line up. But I found I really like it! The old-school Firm cueing and boring deliver is kind of annoying but better than some of the silly chatty ones they do now. The workout itself is good, I like the pacing and variety - about the time I'm really sick of climbing the high step, you move on to something else. All in all, a good bargain! - posted by Cheryl on 5/1/2012
This is the best of the series
I recently purchased the other 4 DVD's of the Kick Butt Series. I've had this one for years now and this is the best of the 6. On all the Kick Butt DVDs they blend in Yoga and Pilates. Not so you'll notice it tho. My flexibility and joints are now vastly improved, and I no longer dread the "handstands". Piece of cake! - posted by Robin on 8/17/2011
These workouts have it all!
I am a seasoned and experience exerciser and I found these to be challenging. I like to have something to work towards. These have aerobics, kickboxing, yoga, pilates and weight work. What more could you ask for in a work out? I love seeing Narty Waters and other cast memebers from the first Firm videos looking fantasic 20 plus years later. What a great testimony! My muscles felt tighter after only a few days of using these!!!!! - posted by Joanie on 1/20/2011
Too frustrating to get a good workout
I am an intermediate exerciser, and can follow complicated aerobic moves, but I found it very frustrating trying to follow these 2 workouts. During the strength training, it seems like Heidi is trying to incorporate as many muscle groups as she can in one big complicated move that ends up leaving me compromising one muscle to move to the next muscle, and then before I get that move down, she's already moving on to the third muscle, and then to a fourth one before moving back to the first muscle. I got absolutely no workout from these DVDs. The cardio moves barely got my heartrate up. Sorry, but even at the sale price of less than $10 for both, these are not worth keeping and are going back. - posted by Cathy on 1/19/2011
Really enjoy this set
Got this set on special and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy doing them especially Push Pull. 1 of my main problems with most videos is I don't find the music particularly motivating or enjoyable. Music is very different for these, there's even 1 set that features a saxophone. Had the step bench from a previous firm set purchase that I had grown tired of doing. At this point I need to modify and only use the 8" part because of knee issues. This is not as difficult as some other so called Intermediate workouts, but if I continue to enjoy it this much hopefully I won't make excuses for not using them. - posted by JC on 1/13/2011
Great Workouts - Gets Better The More You Do Them
I bought these originally in 2006 - all 6 Kickbutt workouts and all 6 Fitprime workouts as a firm believer from the late 80's. I did them all - ONCE and thought they were too easy. I had many of the comments I've seen on this website. Didn't break a sweat. Some of the moves were awkward. They didn't use enough weights. And so on. I am now revisiting these again and am pleasantly surprised by how good these workouts really are! When I did them before, I hadn't tried any of the yoga, pilates, functional fitness types of workouts yet. Now that I've done these other types of workouts many, many times - I understand more the proper form that I was supposed to be using. Basically when I didn't like these, the problem really was that I wasn't doing them correctly. I encourage everyone to retry these if you initially didn't like them and work on your form! If you use heavy weights are correct form - these are great intense workouts! - posted by Ann on 12/3/2010
LOVED this one... actually two!
Kimberley Spreen is my new favorite instructor, and Heidi Tanner among my old faves. If you loved original Firms, you'll love these. The set is a little hokey, but the workouts --- one theoretically more cardio and one more muscle, but actually both offer both --- are motivating, challenging, and fun. Great choreography, instructors who cue well and are upbeat without being chirpy, excellent form. A good challenge for this 57-YO intermediate exerciser. Fun, challenging. And a bargain --- TWO good workouts for the price! - posted by Crescent on 10/12/2010
I sprained my knee with this one
There is a part of the workout that Heidi wants you to sit with your legs twisted in a hip stretch then get up half way then down then up again. Don't do it! I don't have particularly weak knees and it sprained my knee so that it swelled twice its size and bruised. A lot of pain and 4 weeks later it was finally better. That said I think this is a fun DVD set to do but it is definitely intermediate. The work out is varied and keeps your interest and although I don't think Heidi has as much personality as Kim it is still worth doing. - posted by Nancy on 5/15/2009
sad....
It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't the classic 1-5 Firm tapes I hoped for. Too easy, not much of a workout, just didn't do it. - posted by Elizabeth on 2/16/2009

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
