Certified instructor description: No gimmicks and no equipment, this is classic “Winsor Pilates” — a smooth sequence of back-to-the-basics exercises (the ones that made Mari famous … and originally attracted her Hollywood celebrity clientele). Done properly, Pilates is sure to create a lean, strong body. To achieve that goal, each move is carefully demonstrated — at two fitness levels — by three exercisers. Mari walks among them, offering hands-on instruction and easy-to-follow cuing (“see how her back is starting to bend …”). Both workouts feature a carefully designed series of Joseph Pilates’ core-focused movements (the shorter program isn’t “rushed;” it simply has fewer reps and fewer moves). ©2008. Mari Winsor's Pilates

Back to basics, indeed!
The express workout definitely wastes too much time with chatter at the outset. All this should have been put into a separate instructional segment, but once you get through it, the express workout is decent enough. As for the Classic Mat Workout: this is, indeed, good ol' classic Winsor Pilates; basically, an updated version of the original infomercial accelerated workout with nearly identical moves and sequencing. The teaser positions are a bit harder, so they bring your workout to the next level. If you liked the original infomercial set, you will love the new Classic Mat Workout. - posted by MSS on 9/13/2012
"Warning!"
I will never purchase another Mari Winsor vidio again. I have never been so stressed while working out as I was with this. The entire workout would have been done in 5 minutes had it not been for her constant rambling..on and on and on....She had to explain each move to adnausium before moving on. It was as if I were a complete idiot and didn't "get it" so lets talk and explain it more....and more.....more. I know before writing a review we are to do the video a couple times.....Sorry....but after yelling at Mari to "shut up and get on with it!" and nearly bringing myself to a complete stess attack I chose to remove the CD, put it back in it's case and burn it in the bonfire I had that night while finishing off my bottle of wine, she drove me to drink. I will stick with Ellen Barret. She never does me wrong.... - posted by Peggy on 5/31/2012
Great workout - definitely intermediate/advanced
I love Windor pilates. I had done beginner pilates before, and found this video to be more of a challenge. It is easy to follow and the instructions are clear. There is definitely room for improvement as I do this video over time. Some of the moves are definitely advanced, so it will keep me progressing. I would not recommend this video for someone just introducing themselves to pilates. - posted by Stefani on 1/13/2012
mari winsor pilates
the 1st session - 25 min is pretty slow, too much explanation. the 50 min. one is the best & offered new & different types of pilates exercises than any of my other tapes. - posted by kathy on 1/6/2012
Too much talking, still great workout!
I have done the Winsor Pilates workouts for years, since the first videos which I continued to do until my VHS died. I tried to look for the DVD formats of those workouts, but apparently they stopped selling them and those that were available were ridiculously expensive. In that search I found this one and without hesitating I ordered it. I have to say that I still prefer the old workouts where there was a balance between how much she talked and the exercises. This DVD includes a 25 and 55 minutes workout, which in reality is 20 and 50 minutes of total workout because of her talking. This might be a good thing for those that are beginners, but for us that are in an advanced level there are sometimes that we just want to keep moving, -although these moments could be used to meditate or something, RIGHT-. She should have included a beginners section, just like the first of her series. Too much talking, but still a great workout that really delivers results. Oh and by the way, about the music, the same one from The Firm Series and of course the same phrases of all her workouts..."Breathing out the air coming out of your hip socket" Deja-Vu all over again, Mary! - posted by Annette on 4/11/2011
Good instructional Pilates video
I liked how she showed you how to do the poses on the people exercising. I thought it was a little slow, I'm used to more fast paced videos. Will probably use on the days when I feel like a slower workout. - posted by Cynthia on 3/31/2011
TOO MUCH TALKING
I was so bored with this video and should have listened to the previous reviews that warned that Mari talked to much in this one. I loved her first series and was disappointed with this one. - posted by Darlene on 10/25/2010
Love, Love, Love it!!!!
Mari Winsor is wonderful! I've never done Pilates before her routine and didn't know what I was getting into. Mari gives off this genuineness that she truly cares about making sure the moves are done accurately so noone gets hurt. I love that the video has one girl doing the modified moves and Mari takes the time to show how these moves are done. Best 52 minutes one can spend on themselves!!! As the routine progressed I felt more and more energized and alive! Mari has inspired me to get more Pilate dvds from her and others! This is a great companion to my weekly exercise routine of cardio, sculpt, and Power Yoga! - posted by Michelle on 9/9/2010
Ouch! terrible!
I was so disappointed. Mari Winsor talks too much and explains way too much...The workout is very ordinary and is just like all of her other DVDs, all the same, you buy one and you have them all. Don't waste your money, there are so many other pilates DVDs that are excellent compared to this. - posted by Silvia on 8/5/2010
Quick and Easy
I like this video because it seems to go by quick and it is easy in the sense I don't have to stress about getting the moves down. My 11 and 13 year old daughters do it with me and they really like it. - posted by Evie on 6/21/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
