Mayo Clinic: Insomnia

Not Impressed
I was very disappointed in the Mayo Clinic Insomnia dvd. The information part was generic and useless to a true insomniac. I was expecting a 30 minute class situation with poses specifically designed for evening sleep relaxation. This was just a few ineffective exercises, filmed in the bright sunshine with awesome views. Who can sleep in a bright, panoramic, sunshine setting? I do not recommend. - posted by Moe on 9/1/2011
Very Helpful
I found this to be a useful guide to all that you can do to help yourself sleep better, and also what to expect from a doctor's help. The segments are clear but not dumbed down, the advice is specific enough to actually help. The yoga segments are useful, but it is important to watch first and practice later, when you know what to do and what equipment you need. - posted by marty on 6/26/2011

Reading a Time Graph

Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level

Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Stretch type

Athletic: Traditional sports-style, all-physical stretches. It is the least mind-body focused.

Yoga: Carefully designed poses that emphasize breath, concentration and mental awareness. It also includes the more flowing yoga style – Power Yoga.

Tai Chi: All-standing, very fluid poses (it looks like a person moving in slow-motion). The Chinese called Tai Chi "meditation in motion."
