Certified instructor description: A graceful, exceptionally elegant blend of tai chi, yoga and modern dance. As Petra says, "it's designed to energize, rejuvenate and leave you feeling empowered." While the program features fitness-style cuing and classic eight-count progressions, this is not a traditional "fat-burning" workout. Instead, it's a fluid series of gentle, total-body motions — "a celebration of movement." The exercises range from aerobic-style arm routines to tai chi-inspired foot patterns (always quietly cued with smooth transitions). The program ends with a super-relaxing "moving meditation" — just mindfully swaying to the music, with absolutely no cuing. ©2012. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Petra Kolber's Liquid Grooves

This is such a breath of fresh air
I have quite a few workout videos and this one really stands out. It's just a breath of fresh air. The moves, the set, and the music..I don't know how to explain it, it just feels so good to do it. I absolutely love the music she picked for this, and the set too, like a lovely spring day. It looks very easy, yet I somehow find myself sweating quite a bit anyhow. It is sort of like fast tai chi or nia, very full body flowing type moves. I suspect it will improve balance, and your overall gracefulness as well as be a light-ish workout. I tend to find myself making the moves later in the day at random, because it just feels so good to do them. Low to no impact. Suitable for beginners. Might need to be careful if you have a shoulder injury though. If you are looking for something particularly intense or challenging this probably isn't it. If you love the Jillian Michaels or boot camps..this probably isn't for you either. - posted by Marz on 6/4/2013
Beat the Drum
This really works the thighs and abs. Breathing is emphasized. Too windmilly with arms re-adapt lower arm movements for those with shoulder issues. Will rate 4 stars. Enjoyed this one. - posted by Lynn on 5/9/2013
Beautiful, flowing workout
This gentle yet energizing workout is perfect for me at my current stage in life. Some days I find it more vigorous than others and have to modify the arm movements above shoulder height, but still get a lovely workout. Petra's unique choreography is excellent - there is nothing out there on the market quite like this. The music, the production and the background dancers are also great. Petra is a wonderful instructor who motivates and inspires more than any other instructor I've come across. - posted by Christine on 4/21/2013
Absolutely favorite video of all time
It's a loosey-goosey work out and exactly what I need for a stiff back after a long day. Love it. Music is fantastic. It makes me feel like we're dancing on a tropical island. - posted by ruby gets fit on 2/28/2013
makes me happy
I love most of Petra's videos except when they get too dancey. This one really flows and I love the music and the attempts to get some taichi type moves included. I didn't realize when I ordered this that it was a beginner level and it is very slow and I certainly don't feel as though I've gotten a "workout" but I like the movements and the music and I feel satisfied when it's over. - posted by Judy on 2/21/2013
Liquid Grooves is a nice change
I really love this video. I normally do step aerobics but I wanted something a little more fun but still low impact. This video was perfect. The moves are very smooth with good transitions. I especially love the arm movements, which elongate the muscles and help with my flexibility. And even though the moves are simple and there is not a bunch of hopping around, I still feel like I've had a workout at the end of the exercise. - posted by Julie on 1/31/2013
Entrancing
Not intense, but delicious. In the first part of the workout the music and choreography come together wonderfully and just carry you away. The second part is not quite as good, as the choreography becomes more complex and does not flow as well. But all in all, it's a very enjoyable way to unwind and de-stress on those days when you just want a light workout. - posted by Rose on 12/23/2012
Good but long
I really liked this dvd but it seemed to go on forever. I will definitely keep this in rotation. I just wish that it was about 15 minutes shorter. Petra has a great spirit though and I like her music choices. They fit well with the work out. I think this is definitely a good one for beginners on up. It is a little dancy though, but you can always do your own thing if you miss one her moves...well, that's what I do. - posted by Toni on 12/20/2012
The Best From the Best
Love, love this workout. The moves really are "liquid" and if I put myself into it, I get much more than a "beginner" workout. The music is beautiful and the slower movements are challenging to my balance. I am a fit, 66-year-old woman with a highly-varied video collection. I have burned through (and burned out on) many exercise videos. Don't expect I'll ever bite the dust on this one. - posted by Eda on 11/29/2012
If at first you don't like it, try again
The first time I put this video on I turned it off right away. I thought it was too "out there". I've just completed the video and have completely revised my opinion. Petra is a great instructor and it's fun to sway and "groove". It's reminiscent of some of Ellen Barrett's barefoot workouts. This video will be a welcome change to my aerobic videos. At the end I felt that I had a good workout and was "de-stressed. - posted by Jan on 10/25/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
