Certified instructor description:
Beautifully filmed in a peaceful outdoor meadow, it features a special emphasis on purposeful breathing. It’s an intuitive approach that naturally creates an unusually effective, unusually fluid workout. You’ll begin with ten minutes of conscious breath exercises designed to increase mind-body integration. Then Suzanne Deason shows a flowing series of classic Pilates routines (as her two partners demonstrate easier/harder alternatives). Throughout, the calm voice-over narration helps Suzanne (and you) focus on the ideal body position and technique. While it’s too slow to “burn fat,” this workout’s emphasis on increased body awareness can definitely improve your weight loss goals success. ©2001. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Pilates Conditioning for Weight Loss

If you like Suzanne Deason, you will love it
I am a huge fan of Suzanne Deason's yoga tapes, so I bought this. Unlike most pilates workouts, this one is peaceful and relieves stress like most of her yoga DVD's. She does give a lot of instructions, so I add additional sets of the exercise as she starts to explain. If you want a stress relieving pilates dvd, you will love it. I would consider this appealing to beginning and intermediate pilates exercisers. - posted by Lynn on 6/6/2011
Suzanne Deason Pilates for Weight Loss
This is not a terribly hard workout, but a good program and SUPER GREAT if you are just getting back into fitness. Suzanne is an excellent instructor that goes into great detail on positioning. I wish it had a second part where you could knock off the instruction explaining all 3 variations, and just do the workout. I end up doing a lot of it on fast forward. The video also supports a healthy mind set and healthy eating. Very cool. - posted by Pamela on 2/17/2011
Best Pilates DVD I've ever used!
This is a great intro to Pilates. Being Plus sized sometimes makes doing pilates a little harder. I consider myself pretty limber, however there were some moves on "other" pilates DVDs that felt almost impossible. This DVD is very gentle and relaxing. Don't get me wrong, you feel it! But it kind of weened me into pilates. The end result after 2 months was a very tight, toned and STRONG core. I also have had less body and back aches. It's not a great calorie burner but it is GREAT for toning and elongating. I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD and have done it for years! - posted by Sylvia on 5/20/2010
Excellent workout
I get all the negative comments; however, I have had great success with this video and it is one of my favorites (I do it at least 2x/week). First, the title is a bit misleading as there is no way you will burn enough calories to bring about weight loss. What I feel this routine does--especially when completed first thing in the morning--is prepare you physically and mentally for any eating challenges you may face during the day. Simply put, if you take the 40+ minutes to take care of yourself in the morning by working out, then you (hopefully) will make the right food choices throughout the day. You just put in all that work, especially on your abs, and you're going to ruin it for a doughnut? Hopefully not.:) The set is the usual Gaiam gorgeous and I think Deason is excellent at cuing. Whilst this is not for the die-hard Pilates doer, I think it's a great introduction, leaving you energized and ready to face the day. - posted by Lisa on 6/25/2009
A Dissapointment
Ultra relaxing, but boring and drawn out. The pauses between each exercise kept there from being any flow, and I didn't feel like I was getting any benefit. - posted by Melissa on 4/27/2007

Not Terrible But a Disappointment from What Was Expected
I was surprised on how flawed I thought it was and how different my opinion seems to be from most reviews. I thought the cueing was horrible. You could not figure out what she was saying to do. You kind of have to rely on your previous knowledge of Pilates to know. Someone with no Pilates experience would not know what to do. The movements are way too fast in parts. Also the DVD itself is set up horribly, as far as figuring out what to choose. THere is no explanation for what the three variations of workout are. There seems to be one for the full workout, one that shows only the intermediate and one only the beginning, but nowhere does it explain the options or how long they are or how to choose. Unbelievable. Having said that, it's not horrible and I suspect I'll keep it in my rotation, but I was really irritated at what seemed like missing information in so many places. - posted by Bluebeatle on 8/30/2006
I had the VHS and am now getting the DVD
This video has been very helpful to me in building up strength in my legs after surgery from a fall that tore muscles, ligaments, cartlidge and left me without an ACL. I have all my strength back in my leg and I would say it is completely back to normal. The doctor did not think that my leg would ever be functioning well again, but he was wrong, thanks to this video! - posted by Jackie Sturm 7/5/06 on 7/5/2006
A Ultra Relaxing, Calming and Pretty Good Workout.
I purchased this DVD a couple of years ago, and it is still one of my favorite Pilates workouts. I agree with some of the reviews, this is not necessarily a weight loss conditioning workout, but more of a weight maintenance workout, but the toning and strengthening benefits are amazing. I also agree that Suzanne does spend a lot of time on setting up for positions, and that can be a little frustrating for Intermediate to Advanced exercises, but I think it is perfect for Beginners. I would still recommend this DVD for Intermediate or Advanced exercises though, because the length of the workout is just over an hour, so you will still get a very decent workout. I like to use this DVD on my more easy workout days because I still get a decent workout, but I am also so calm and relaxed during and after the workout. Between the scenery, music, and Suzannes amazing and calm instruction, you just cant go wrong with this DVD. I absolutely love it. - posted by May on 3/3/2006
Waist of Time!
This video was such a waste of time. It's quite long and so slow paced that much more time is spent just sitting or lying there than anything else. There is no way anyone could lose weight doing this and I question whether much toning could be accomplished either. Even the advanced moves were not challening. - posted by KD on 4/26/2005
I did not like this video
This video was way too boring. It did nothing for me -- there is far too much 'down time' -- a lot of unnecessary intstruction in my opinion. When you finally got to do an excercise, the segments were so short (like 4 repetitions), there's no way to get any benefit. I think even beginners would be disappointed with this. It is good if you want something to fall asleep to, though. - posted by cosmo on 2/11/2005

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
