Time graph for PowerStrike with Ilaria Montagnani

An ultra-thorough kickboxing workout that focuses on strength, power and control. Ilaria will keep you energized with her buff physique, perfect form and no-nonsense approach. Using high reps of simple-but-challenging exercises, her moves are carefully designed to burn fat as they tone your muscles (with never a wasted motion). You’ll start with a series of punches: crosses, jabs, hooks and upper cuts. Then you’ll add the kick variations: front kicks, roundhouses and crescents. That’s followed by 25 minutes of varied combos — fast-tempo/high-intensity punch-and-kick patterns that use the movements you learned earlier. ©2006. DVD has: Wide screen.

PowerStrike with Ilaria Montagnani

I wanted to like it but it's boring
I do think that Ilaria seems to be a great instructor. Perhaps her classes are more lively than this DVD. I wanted to like this because Powerstrikes always seem to get recommended as good kickbox workouts. While I didn't have problem with cueing or form, I was bored. I tried the workout a few tmes but always switched to something else. I ended up giving this away. - posted by Hara on 8/16/2008
Good Workout
I purchased this to step up my workout and it certainly reached that goal. Ilaria is easy to follow, gives good cues without slowing down the workout and constantly reminds you on form. The music is fun. You will certainly break a sweat. The second half is more complicated, but again, she walks you through it and gives praise as well, which keeps you motivated. - posted by Lisa on 6/3/2008
Good Form
I really like this video. The workout and music mesh really well. Ilaria's form is fantastic. If you want to learn good form, this is the video to start with. I agree with others that the cardio benefit is intermediate at best. - posted by Melissa on 11/29/2007
Excellent form but intensity
Well, Ill begin by saying that I really love Ilaria. She is obviously an actual real martial arts expert (unlike many other kickboxing instructors...)but if you are an advanced exerciser, you probably wont even be breaking a sweat... I am sorry to say this cause the intructor and quality production are excellent and I really wanted to love this video. I will say that if you are starting out with kickboxing you definitely should learn it from an actual professional like Illaria, her form is perfection and her body is absolutely AMAZING! I hope her next video is much more challenging cardio wise. - posted by Jade on 11/11/2007
Powerstrike
Overrated like her class! The upperbody part is ok. (But how can u perform a hook punch without turning your body) Never was a fan of her kicking style. Her "roundhouse" looks more like an advance front kick. This is better than Violet's I must say.I'm starting to wonder where these martial artist get there "Black Belts" from. Look at Master Billy Blanks roundhouse kick compared to llaria's and you'll see the difference - posted by Jermaine on 11/6/2007
Not KPC, but still very good
I didn't get the combinations the first time, because after all the basic stuff I was already sweating and loosing concentration, but I am looking forward to the day, when mine look as fluent as they do with Ilaria and their team. The music is just great, and I will definitely put this into my favourites. Ilaria is very concentrated and you feel that she wants you to do the moves correctly. The menu is kind of strange, but nevertheless I am looking forward to do it once again. - posted by Regina on 8/12/2007
The mark of a good workout video..
When I can breeze right through a workout, it's too easy. When I have to stop the tape several times, I'm happy, means it's a challenge. That was the case with this tape. It is something I can grow with.I was looking for a pure cardio kickboxing workout, after years of TaeBo. I already have Keli Roberts KB for Dummies, and this is a welcome addition.I had never done a karate punch in my life, was that ever awkward!! It's all good, I look forward to improving each time, and maybe someday, kick as high as Ilaria...someday in the far distant future..It will be fun getting to that point. Also, learning the crescent kick was cool!! - posted by Jerry on 7/13/2007
Tough workout!
I just tried this workout for the first time and it was tough! I really like that Ilaria really emphasizes proper form with her short introduction before the work out begins. She isn't one of those gimicky kick boxing instructors--she's no nonsense, and straight forward but also makes it fun and enjoyable. Definitely will keep this workout in my weekly rotation! - posted by on 6/6/2007
Very pleased
This is my first kickbox video, which I bought to add cardio to my workouts, so I can't judge the intensity. The cueing is outstanding and I sweated and worked hard, and generally just really liked it, also the setting and the 3 other instructors. I will definitely buy more of Illaria's DVDs. I bought this because I'm fed up with aerobics and this definitely fit the bill of something new that didn't pound my joints or require jumping around. My only complaint is the music is too loud and at times you have to strain to hear Illaria's voice. - posted by Hannah on 5/24/2007
The Cream of the Crop
I must be doing a different workout than the recent reviewers because I found this workout to be very intense and among the best of the best kickboxing workouts. There is nothing about this workout that I don't like. The instructor and the other exercisers seemed sincerely interested in instructing rather than "showing out". The music uniquely fit the workout. As for the intensity, I primarily worked out to Cathe and Gin workouts before finding this one, and the intensity is comparable. Also, as others noted previously, the form of everyone in this workout is perfection. - posted by Ann on 4/29/2007

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Wide screen
X
The program fully fills a wide-screen television screen. Note: These videos will display black bars at the top and bottom on a traditional 4 x 3 ratio TV screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
