Time graph for PowerStrike with Ilaria Montagnani

An ultra-thorough kickboxing workout that focuses on strength, power and control. Ilaria will keep you energized with her buff physique, perfect form and no-nonsense approach. Using high reps of simple-but-challenging exercises, her moves are carefully designed to burn fat as they tone your muscles (with never a wasted motion). You’ll start with a series of punches: crosses, jabs, hooks and upper cuts. Then you’ll add the kick variations: front kicks, roundhouses and crescents. That’s followed by 25 minutes of varied combos — fast-tempo/high-intensity punch-and-kick patterns that use the movements you learned earlier. ©2006. DVD has: Wide screen.

PowerStrike with Ilaria Montagnani

Superb Workout
I had fun sweating in this workout. Ilaria's instruction was easy to follow and the music was great. Definitely worth to have in my exercise routine. Thanks collage staff for helping me in choosing this video. - posted by Emilee on 7/17/2010
Excellent workout with strong martial arts foundation
Ilaria Montagnani's Powerstrike workout gives me the intermediate level cardiovascular workout I'm looking for with clear cueing, upbeat attitude, and true martial arts focus. I look forward to every workout! I'm 57 with a strong, varied physical fitness background (ballet, weightlifting/ bodybuilding, karate), so I need an instructor who can keep a consistent workout level and interest me in new ways of working out -- and who clearly knows and cares about the material they're teaching. - posted by Rebecca on 4/26/2010
Good Workout
I was looking for a good cardio workout I could do at home to replace at least one day of boring treadmill work at the gym. Overall this has fit the bill; however, it is not as fast paced as I had expected (I do work up a sweat though!). Part of that misconception is that I am new to the "world" of kickboxing, and this is not a "cardio kickboxing" experience. Ilaria has great form a does a great job explaining each of the moves. The first 30 minutes goes through individual kick and punch routines, and the last 30 minutes goes through longer routines. This is great because just when I want to slow down we switch gears. I am fairly uncoordinated so I am still working on a few of the punch combos, but I always feel awesome after completing the workout. I usually add on her ab/push-up routine afterward (this is replacing a day at the gym for me). Some have commented that she does too many repetitions; I disagree. The number of repetitions lets me learn the moves and get good at my form (thus a better workout) before moving on. I look forward to trying out her other dvds. (PS the dvd chaptering is AWFUL - I would expect so much more in 2009!) - posted by Heidi on 4/12/2010
Serious workout
All of Ilaria's videos are excellent. They are all hard core, I love them. - posted by Tinka on 3/29/2010
Powerstrike
This dvd is a very good fit for me to add that extra variety to my schedule. I have done a limited amount of this type and liked it alot. It's good if you don't have experience in this style. She is very good at instructing each move. It's a really good cardio workout--not so fast that you can't keep up, but enough to get a good sweat happening. I am 52 and have worked out for 25 yrs in different areas and would recommend it highly. - posted by Anne on 3/23/2010
Decent workout but requires some effort
I am an advanced exerciser and also a recommended black belt in taekwondo. Unlike a previous reviewer, I can actually work up a sweat, but it requires that I put a lot of force and effort into the moves. I actually purchased this workout to help me gain more height and flexibility in my kicking. Mission accomplished. I routinely use it before tournaments and testings to warm up. I would recommend this video for martial arts students wanting to improve their kicks. As for anyone else, I think that her layering of moves is helpful to someone unfamiliar with martial arts. With a little effort, you can get a decent low-impact workout. - posted by Monica on 3/6/2010
Excelent instruction!
I'm an intermediate exerciser and let me tell you, there's a lot of difference with other kickbox workouts and mainly because of the impeccable form from Ilaria and her crew. Also, it's nice in intensity, meaning this can be as intense as you want to, just picture someone you don't like as a target and WHOA! This workout has zero impact and allows you to focus on doing things right. Besides of being classified as a toning workout, it has a very nice cardio effect, easily keeping my heart rate in the aerobic zone. - posted by Gaby on 12/13/2009
Very impressive
I am an advanced exerciser, and have several kickboxing and tae bo workouts, but this was my first one with Ilaria. I was hugely impressed with it, and felt it was an intense workout (my clothes needed to be wrung out afterward - or maybe I'm just very sweaty!). I was persuaded to get this by earlier reviews recommending the way in which proper form is taught by Ilaria, and I was not disappointed. It's a pleasure to watch her, and the other members of her class, whose form is also very good indeed. I love Ilaria's precision of movement and cuing. - posted by Susan on 10/25/2009
Loved it the Second Time Around
I bought this video awhile ago, and did it one time, but for some reason it didn't hold my interest (not sure why - maybe it was the repetition of the moves?). However, I picked it up again yesterday to try and I can't for the life of me understand why I didn't like this video! Ilaria's cues are great, and it was a lot of fun! I didn't even realize how much I was sweating and the time went by really fast. I like her attitude - she's supportive, no nonsense but friendly. And now that it's the second day I can really feel it in my upper body! A real keeper in my rotation! - posted by Roma on 10/23/2009
Superb!!!!
This is just a great workout, plain and simple. Ilaria is the best in the biz with kickboxing. Her cueing is spot on, she teaches perfect form and does not go at such a crazy fast pace like some other videos. Form is so important, and she goes at the perfect speed to get it down so there is no injury and you get the most out of the moves. Keep 'em coming Ilaria. - posted by Jill Sherry on 10/5/2009

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Wide screen
X
The program fully fills a wide-screen television screen. Note: These videos will display black bars at the top and bottom on a traditional 4 x 3 ratio TV screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
