Certified instructor description: Four 10-minute segments: hip hop, Latin and jazz for cardio, plus ballet for toning. Jennifer Galardi captures the essence of each dance type. Not just a quick overview of each style, every section features 6 to 8 dance-specific steps (so it’s physically exhilarating and mentally interesting). The instruction is very easy to follow because she cues each movement to the actual beat of the music (e.g. “hop, hop, shuffle, open, close, open, close to the right…”). The all-standing toning segment features classic ballet exercises that focus on grace, balance and strength. DVD includes a short bonus intructional segment. ©2005. DVD has: Chapter menus, Region 1.

Prevention: Dance It Off!

Dance and move
I like Jennifer. I find she is always encouraging and having fun. Cues vary from "just keep moving" to "add shoulders and your own flare, make it your own". In other words, I can enjoy the learning and the repeated performance over time. - posted by Rhoda on 1/13/2012
Prevention: dance it off,
I am interested in Prevention: dance it off, she instructs very clearly, I can follow her group without difficulty, I do exercises four times a week, I think all of your dance products are very good, so I like them very much. - posted by Natalia on 3/3/2011
Dance it Off!
Easy to follow instruction. Fun work out. The music is well chosen and not annoying like some videos. I recommend it for anybody who needs a change in their exercise routine. - posted by Teri on 12/2/2010
Not for the Advanced
Typical low-impact low-intensity dance routine. If you're advanced and athletic, this will be boring and non-challenging. After doing the hip-hop and Latin sections (adding lots of jumps and jacks and still not sweating) I took it out and put a Christi Taylor Hi/Lo routine in to at least get some cardio benefit. Would only recommend this to a beginner. - posted by holly on 8/18/2009
Made Me Like Latin and Hip-Hop
I got this video because I was running out of 10-Minute Solutions cardio to do and saw this was a similar concept. I was a little skeptical because I don't normally like Latin or hip hop, but thought it was worth trying anyway. I'm glad I did. It turned out to be fun, even in the segments I'd thought I'd have trouble with. It's easy to follow, but not so easy that it's not a workout. The instructor's cueing is not always great, but usually the moves are simple enough that you can just follow along within a couple of repetitions. If you're looking for just a little quick cardio, definitely try this one. - posted by Sara on 6/15/2009
Fun Dance Video!
This video was lots of fun and over before I knew it. I didn't think the choreography was too complicated although I'm sure I looked like a real klutz doing this but hopefully after a couple more tries I'll be a little smoother. I really liked Jennifer as an instructor. I can't figure out why the big girl has on a sweatshirt, I sweat big time even on less intense workouts so I can't imagine working out in long sleeves. - posted by SDHR on 2/25/2009
Love It
This is such a fun dancing workout. I actually think it is the best cardio dance DVD I own. I do it whenever I need an extra energy boost. The dance steps give me the motivation to workout and Jennifer Galardi is so motivating. She just pumps it up and lets it ride! I would not call myself a really good dancer and even if you are not I think that you will have a great time anyway. Some moves may take a while to get use to but they are all really fun. You are going to have a blast with this workout. I am glad I bought it. - posted by Emily on 2/22/2009
Too Easy
This work dance work-out is more for the beginners. I did not feel anything. - posted by Karen on 11/29/2008
Not the Best I've Ever Done
I definitely worked up a sweat with this dvd even though I felt like I stumbled through the steps trying to keep up. The choreography is fairly complicated and fast-paced-definitely not for a beginner. I have a hard time believing anyone without some dance background would enjoy this one. The jazz segment and the ballet segment were my favorites. It's worth getting if you like dance videos and are looking for more of a challenge. I'm 48 and a former dancer. It took a few times to pick up the moves, but I enjoyed it enough to do it again. The segments are short (10 minutes) so the steps and styles do not get tedious which is a plus. - posted by Stacey #2 on 10/6/2008
Not My Favorite
I initially rented this one and liked it enough to buy it. Today I forced myself to do it because I'd been neglecting my dance videos and found that I really didn't like it that much. Dance videos are a great idea, but most seem so cheesy. I think that's why I had liked it at first, as it's better than many. Still, I didn't find the choreography or cuing that hard, maybe because I have alot of dance experience. That said, it didn't get my heart rate up very much, and I wore a heart rate monitor. Oddly, the ballet section was the only part that did, and mostly during the plies. The pace was somewhat fast for ballet, but I liked that part the best. For me, too much time was spent breaking down moves which I think is a problem with dance videos in general. I'd take Core Rhythms any day over this type of "dance party" approach. - posted by Kari on 5/24/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
