Certified instructor description: Fun, very do-able versions of Afro/Latin and Reggae/Funk dance. By combining strong-beat, dance-specific music with a totally non-intimidating instructor, it’s easy to find yourself just naturally burning fat (and having fun). Marie Forleo’s clear, add-on cuing makes it simple. She begins with a base move, then gradually raises the tempo, adds something new or links to a previous step (but, for a quick break, you can always drop back to the base move). The first segment is Afro/Latin — from shimmies and hip thrusts to salsa and tribal. Then it’s hot island Reggae/Funk — from twists and shrugs to “dig and freeze” or “butterfly.” DVD also includes a 9-minute exercise "dos and don’ts" segment. ©2006. DVD has: Chapter menus, Music only option, Region 1.

Prevention: Dance Yourself Thin

I love it
I had this dvd for some years and I started dropping inches within the first 2 weeks. Unfortunately, life happened and I stopped. But now that I am ready to start working out again, I can't find the dvd. I'm really upset! But I like this. It takes a little time to get the moves down, but that's not the point. I was all over my front room when I started! You can imagine the sight lol, but I just kept moving. And that is the point. I think the more serious you take it and the harder you WORK THE MOVES that she gives you, the better the workout will be for you. But this is great for beginners. Someone who wants to start working out. I did this workout 3 times a week, and walked outside for about an hour 2 days a week. - posted by Tia on 7/14/2011
Fun Dancing
This is a great video for beginner hip hop dancers like myself. I am also late 40's and have very bad arthritis and scoliosis. This DVD is great for my level and has helped me look forward to exercising because it's fun. I have not found one Prevention video I don't like! - posted by Christine on 4/7/2011
Not Original & Corny
She stole alot of these moves from the Nike Rockstar Workout Program. So not original and corny. - posted by Sarah on 5/6/2010
Great Beginner workout
I've taken many gym aerobics classes in the past, and will say that this is not as intense as those. However, two babies later, it's just what I need to get back in the game. A friend and I are doing this after work two days a week and loving it. :) It's a great beginner-level dance-based workout! - posted by Tina on 2/3/2010
Good for Beginners
I remember being disappointed when I first purchased this DVD. It was taught well but I felt I did not get enough cardio to make it really worthwhile (unlike the Zumba classes at the gym). Enter the postpartum period of my second pregnancy (along with a c-section this time around) and I am finding it is much more effective. I think this would be a great DVD for those new to exercise or those recovering from an injury. - posted by Maura on 11/29/2009
Fun Dance Video
I really like this instructor - she has great cueing. And the dances are very easy to learn. It's fun, just not great at getting you breathing very hard, but, I do it as a supplement to other exercises or when I don't really feel like working out. It pumps me up and then I usually do another DVD. - posted by Toni on 3/28/2008
Worth It just for the Iso's
I think this has some of the Best dance instruction around, I'd buy this disk again just for the "Isolation" section: Here Marie trains you to isolate/move different parts of your body independantly (ie hold everything still, but shift your hips right). This may not sound like much, but I've found that this has been a VITAL help in all my Dance videos. The dances are fun, not too hard to learn, and extremely well taught. Like most (ALL) Dance Excercise Videos, this is NOT for the day you wish to max out your heart rate/ calories. Rather they're great for relief from your standard heart thompers - but some (THIS ONE IN PARTICULAR) help you develop coordination and other skills while you have some fun. - posted by alix on 12/19/2007
Fun workout for low energy days
This is a fun workout. However, it takes a while to really get your heart rate up. I use this video on days when I'm very tired and not feeling like working out. The music is great and makes you feel like moving, and the moves are easy. That's why I'm giving the video 4 stars. Everybody needs a workout video that gets you moving when you'd really rather just sit down. - posted by Mary on 12/13/2007
Good Energy!
I would recommend this dvd to people who are not dancers like me. I enjoyed it alot, however I will only use it on days when I'm in the mood for a low-impact workout. - posted by BJ on 10/27/2007
Save Your Money
Save your time and money and do something else. I do many of the dance classes at the gym and this one does not compare with them. The cueing is poor and it is not difficult enough to work up a good sweat. - posted by Nicole on 5/31/2007

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
