Time graph for Prevention: Drop It with Dance
An easy-to-follow fat-burner with lots of heart-rate-raising arm motions. The emphasis is on having fun and enjoying the movement, not mastering the latest club steps. There are three dance styles: jazz funk, early hip hop and “90’s jam” (no Latin!). They’re all taught add-on style — you’ll learn a move at half-tempo, then add some variations and speed it up. The jazz funk includes whimsical routines like “pony tail” and “snatch and grab.” The hip hop section is a little slower with bigger, more powerful combos. “90’s jam” features lots of attitude and classics like “Robocop” and “Roger Rabbit.” You’ll end with a “showtime” segment where you put it all together. ©2007. DVD has: Chapter menus, Music only option, Region 1.

Prevention: Drop It with Dance

Fun workout!
This is a fun workout and I find it being one I do often when I want something that is a good workout without being overly demanding. I agree with some of the previous posts that some of the moves seem pointless but I think the music is pretty good on this one. Once you learn the moves, if you skip the individual sections (because they use up a lot of time explaining each step and putting them together) and just do the Showtime section over and over, it is a good workout. - posted by Heather on 5/9/2008
My first dance video!
I have always been leery of trying a dance video (some can look cheesy and seem ridiculous), but I decided to give this one a try and I'm glad I did! I liked the challenge and as my exercise motto goes "your workout is only as effective as what you put into it"! In other words, really use your core and hit the moves.. you'll be sweating in no time! Also, the people weren't intimidating (always a plus). - posted by Kristen on 4/21/2008
Awful
I agree with earlier reviews...this video is VERY boring. Part of the problem is the music, since you can barely hear it, and then the moves are kind of 'blah'. I suffered through 3 segments, and between the boredom and the fact that I wasn't even sort of sweating, I had to give up. Save your money. there are better dance videos. On a positive note, I liked the instructor (but not enough to ever try this video again.) - posted by GR on 4/10/2008
Don't give up!
The first time I did this workout, I was really intimidated by trying to learn all the moves and was discouraged afterwards; the second time I did it, I decided to just try to move and do something close to what they were doing and with that attitude, it was really fun. The music is better than most. - posted by Sheryl on 3/12/2008
Snoozer!
Everyone else seems to like this video but I found it a real snoozer. I was not especially fond of the instructor or the moves she pieced together--the routines had a lot of so-so moves in them. I like the two other dance videos by Prevention much better--one is led by Jennifer Gilardi and one is led by Gloria Forneo. Get one of these instead; get the Prevention video led by Gloria if you want only one. - posted by RobinK on 2/13/2008
Love this workout!!
This workout is fun, easy to follow, and you work up a good sweat. The music is the best I've heard in a dance video. The music for the cooldown is really nice. I especially like the 90's Jam workout with the Robocop move. The 10 minute Showtime segment where all the moves are combined without instruction was a great idea. Sometimes I'll just do that part of the workout--over and over. I also like that subtitles are used to let you know which move is next. That helps with cueing problems. I have a collection of Prevention workout DVDs, and this one has just moved to the top of the list as my favorite. I just wish that Austen had been in this one. I hope Tabitha D'Umo gets to do more dance workouts for Prevention. - posted by Mary on 1/17/2008
Fun, Fun, Fun!!!!
I am also not a trained dancer and I do admit that the moves may be confusing the first couple of times through but once you get them down, this workout is SO much fun. It works up a decent sweat and time flies! Do not worry about how you look, you're not on Dancing with the Stars. Just relax and have some fun. - posted by Tracy, Baltimore on 1/14/2008
GREAT
I thought that this was a hard workout. I LOVED IT! I especially liked the "showtime" at the end. Many dance videos give you the basics and never give you a total run through of all the dance moves when you have done the video so many times you want to just dance! This was a great idea. I did have to do certain sections over and over until I got the moves down. But, that was okay because I was already sweating and I received more of a workout. Good job PREVENTION!! - posted by Randi on 1/12/2008
A Good Dance Workout
When I first received this dvd I was like oh no I can't do that because I have a difficult time picking up complex choreography. However, I did this dvd last night and I must say I enjoyed it. While there were a couple of moves which I didn't master, I still felt like I got a good workout. Boy am I sore. In my opinion I prefer this dance routine to the one led by Jennifer Galardi(another prevention fitness dvd). I would definietly buy this one. If you don't like it, you can always send it back. - posted by Marie on 1/11/2008
Difficult for a Non-Dancer
I never took any sort of dance growing up, and I found this very difficult to follow. I spent a lot of time just standing there in the middle of a routine because I forgot how the step should go or I just couldn't keep up. - posted by Shira on 1/9/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
