Certified instructor description: The video classic that originally ignited the step aerobics phenomenon (and is still a solid, ultra-high-tech-looking workout even today). With MTV-style photography and great music plus a futuristic industrial set, this is a uniquely engaging program. There’s even a live band playing high-energy, funky/African music. Despite the quick video cuts, it’s easy to follow. The moves are non-dancy, and Gin uses both hand and verbal cues to always tell you what’s coming. She starts with simple marches, then progresses to slightly more complex knee lifts, kicks, lunges and jacks. ©1992.

Reebok: The Video with Gin Miller

Best Step workout, ever
This is the first step tape I bought - repurchased in a DVD format- and it still is one of the absolute best step videos out there! You will definitely sweat after this one! The music is fantastic! The cast looks great and the movements are not dancey - which I hate! The last thing I want to do at 5 a.m. is learn some crazy dance steps that have me turning around, quickly, in circles on a stepper. That, to me, just seems so dangerous. (P.S. I love to dance)! In this tape, Gin seems to use more traditional athletic style movements to the music. It's tough, challenging but FUN! - posted by Julie on 3/4/2011
Back in the groove...
I started exercising again after two children; just had to replace my (VHS?) copy with this DVD because back in the day (when I weighed 113 pounds, was very toned and looked my very best) THIS is one of the tapes I really enjoyed. It works. It's a definite fat burner! Sure, the outfits may seem a little wild but the music (to me) is fantastic! Her crew (and this includes men) is easy to look at! It's not a real dancey tape. which I am glad for..Don't get me wrong I "love" to dance but I really don't want to have to learn complicated dance steps when I need a solid cardio routine (at 5 a.m.) Instead, I want something consistent that is going to make me sweat! I haven't found too many step tapes out there(other than Reebok's Aerostep w Gin Miller-which I cannot find in DVD) and her Power Step-that fit the bill for me. I was relieved to see this one is still on Collage's list! - posted by Julie on 2/24/2011
A True Step Workout
Reebok Step is a non-stop workout. It will definitely build up your stamina. I must admit that I had to press pause a few times to catch my breath. However, I'll feel like I've accomplished something once I can complete it without stopping. A great challenge for someone who is up for it. I would definitely recommend this video. - posted by Angie on 2/6/2011
Oldie but Goodie
Great basic step moves that are fun and I never get tired of. I was so happy to find this in DVD, since I no longer have a VHS player. I love it for not too hard step moves, but still a good work out. I am in good shape, but not a 6 pack ab person. This DVD brings on the sweat and allows enough different moves to keep me interested, but also repeats them in various levels of difficulty so I can easily follow. - posted by Joyce on 1/27/2011
Best Step Workout Video Hands Down!
I used to do this workout tape on vhs and it was my favourite of all time. Great cardio workout, excellent cueing. Love the music and the atmosphere. Gin Miller is my favourite instructer, she gets you pumped. - posted by Paula on 12/23/2010
Still the best intro to step video on the market
Please change the cover of this video. It doesn't represent the kicking music, look and feel of the actual video. If I hadn't bought this years ago, I would be swayed away by the cover. If you're looking for a basic video to make you sweat, get this! Gin Miller is the best!!! - posted by Trish on 12/16/2010
Oldie but goodie and definitely a keeper!
Gin Miller is an excellent instructor and her cueing is right-on. The dvd setting is unique and it is fun. I am used to doing an hour of cardio a day. On Gin Miller days, I use this dvd as a primer (it is a mild/moderate work-out) and follow it up with Gin Miller's Intense Moves (interval work-out) after eliminating the warm-ups in both dvd's (hate warm-ups!). Combining the two dvd's gives me a super work-out. - posted by Susan on 12/11/2010
Good old fashioned step workout
Simple, basic step routine that gets your heart pumping. - posted by Julie on 12/6/2010
What can I say? A classic
Way way back when I first started working out, someone gave me this on VHS. That was in the mid 90's. I still occasionally do this workout. It hasn't aged and it can still kick your butt, particularly if you add risers. The choreography is fairly basic but the set and live musicians keep it from being boring. I wish some of the other Gin Miller workouts from that era were still around (AeroStep was a good one) but glad to see this one is still popular. - posted by Vanessa on 11/20/2010
Great Step workout
I believe that this is the first step workout ever produced, and it is still current today. It is perfect for beginners, but as an advanced stepper, I 'jump' or 'run' the moves etc. to increase intensity, and I usually repeat it since I like my step workouts to be about 45 minutes. It also contains ab work and upper body, albeit brief. The music is pumping with a good drumbeat. - posted by Chloe on 10/22/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
sample time graph
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Step aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The step aerobics segments involve stepping up and down on a platform. The moves range from simple stepping to more choreographed exercises. These segments require a step bench platform. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
