Certified instructor description: It’s a fat-burning dance party with pumped-up 70’s hits and Richard’s legendary motivation. Young and old, large and small — everyone is singing along and having fun. No “filler music,” every combo features a familiar disco song like “Hooked on a Feeling,” “I’m Your Boogie Man,” “DO Ya Think I’m Sexy” and “Lady Marmalade.” The moves range from simple step touches to disco-style Hustles — always with lots of playful, heart-beat-raising arm motions (“give me disco hair!”). But, as you’d expect, Richard focuses on movement, not mastering a specific dance pattern. Copyright 2006 (but not released until 2010). DVD has: Chapter menus.

Richard Simmons' Boogie Down the Pounds

fast paced but fun
would not be the first dvd to choose when beginning to exercise. has many dance moves with rapid switches which makes it hard to keep up. will add it to my routine when my skills become more advanced. - posted by Amy on 5/5/2012
Boogie Down the Pounds
I have many of Richard Simmons' exercise videos and to be honest this one isn't my favorite, although the more I do it, the more it is growing on me. It is pretty fast paced for a beginner tape, but if you are looking for a video that is fun and will get your heart rate up, look no further! - posted by Gloria on 10/10/2011

I had so much fun listening to the oldies, but goodies music, and dancing. I didn't think exercise could be so much fun. I had a smile on my face the whole workout. Thanks Collage. for offering such an enjoyable exercise experience with Richard Simmons "Boogie Down the Pounds." - posted by Mallen on 7/24/2011
Good Workout to Get Back In the Habit
I just started back to working out and being quite overweight, I needed something that would motivate and be doable. This was both. You get what you put into it with effort. This video helped me restart working out. I'm in my 30's, so the music isn't really my type, but it sure is fun and takes the strain out of working out when you're a beginner. Richard keeps it positive and makes you feel like you can keep going. - posted by Jenny on 7/21/2011
So so
I enjoyed the workout and definitely worked up a sweat. I'm not sure it is strictly a beginner workout, it is fast paced and you never stop moving. I didn't think all the songs were actually disco songs. There are lots of interesting people to watch although the constant changing of people at the front of the line and Richard announcing everyone's name was kind of distracting. - posted by Melanie on 7/5/2011

Good video for us older folks. Easy to follow dance moves. Good music too. - posted by Linda on 6/2/2011

Good, typical, Simmons workout. Not as interesting choreography as some of the earlier workouts, but it does the job well enough. Great soundtrack, but it's a bit muted due to the loud yelling and screaming from the workout group. Overall, a very effective workout. - posted by aly on 2/3/2011
Aerobics Video by Richard Simmons
This is an awesome way to get your strength, endurance, and cardio. Richard is inspiring and motivating, as well as being a ton of fun. I have all of his videos and DVD's. He has real people of all ages and sizes doing realistic and easy routines that make your daily workout less of a chore. You can be a little goofy and pace yourself for how you feel that day. Whether you want to maintain or lose weight, his video has something for everyone. He stresses safety and keeps you aware of what your capacity should be. Not only is he a qualified instructor, but the guy has a real heart with genuine sensitivity and compassion and he really cares about people. I will always use his videos and dearly thank him for all of his contributions to my well being. I can't wait for the next one to come out!!! Thanks Richard. Love You!!! - posted by Tina on 12/2/2010

This is a good video, but for me it was difficult to follow the moves but after repeated following it is getting easier. - posted by Mary on 10/27/2010
Wonderful Music
I have almost all of Richrd Simmons tapes and all I can say is that he makes it fun. And this tape is just as much fun as all the others. Yet you get a very good workout as you are doing it. There are times when you even find yourself singing along with the songs. I do it 6 days a week and I look forward to doing it. Anyone who enjoys dancing get this tape you will love it! Hope that Richard will keep giving us his workouts. - posted by Linda on 9/30/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
