Certified instructor description: Non-stop 50’s and 60’s hit songs in four super-high-energy fat burners. These are the original 1988-1992 workouts that made Richard famous! The moves are easy — lots of arm motions, easy marches and basic dance steps (e.g. Twist, Pony, grapevines, cha chas). Volume One has a dance party setting; the songs include “Wipe Out,” “It’s My Party” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” Volume Two has a short muscle-toning segment; the songs include “Windy,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Jailhouse Rock.” Volume Three is a stylized amusement park (complete with flashing lights and a Ferris wheel). The songs include “Do You Wanna’ Dance,” “Louie, Louie” and “Born to Be Wild.” Volume Four mixes in some gospel music; the songs include “Someday We’ll Be Together,” “Proud Mary” and “Dance to the Music.” This set also has a fifth DVD — “Love Yourself and Win,” It’s features Richard’s “six steps to improved self-esteem and permanent weight loss” (plus bonus interviews with Richard, testimonials from successful weight losers and more). ©1988-1992. DVD has: Chapter menus, Narrow screen.

Richard Simmons' Sweatin' to the Oldies 5 DVD Set

Totally Awesome!
I have loved the Richard Simmons Sweating to the Oldies since they first came out. I became very sick, nearly died, and it has taken me years to completely recover. I've tried different exercise DVDs & found them good, but I always felt like a workout. But not Richard Simmons. I had given away my first set & really regretted it. But I bought the set again & wouldn't sell for a million dollars. The dance steps are easy but you will get a workout. I love the music, especially the first one since that was my teenage years. He is fun & very motivating. I'm a beginner & I found them challenging which will keep me from being bored. - posted by Susan on 5/9/2013
Still my favorite
I did these workouts about 20 years ago and thought they were fun with great music and more importantly real people at all fitness levels. Over the years I've purchased lots of other videos but I'm back to Richard. His enthusiasm and realism is so inspiring and at 48 I needed effective workouts that aren't hard on the joints or have choreography that is impossible to follow. Richard's cueing is not the best however you can pick up on what he is doing easily. The workouts are still fun and I needed a new set as my VHS and VCR are a thing of the past. Having all four original workouts in one box set was a great deal. Glad to have Richard back in my life. - posted by Allie on 2/26/2013
Great DVDs
I had a vcr of Richard Simmons exercising with a tube for toning. I thought these dvds were a newer version. Since they were not I returned them because I could not keep up with the pace. I am older. The dvds were great quality though and your customer service was very helpful and kind. I apologize for the inconvenience. - posted by Helen on 2/21/2013
Fantastic!!!
Although I've heard about Richard Simmons for years, I never needed exercise video's before. Now I do and I've tried quite a few. Kettlebells, I like, aerobics, ok, Richard Simmons - I LOVE! I got all of his video's and really do love them. I love the music, Richard is SO motivating, and honestly, for the first time I think about the songs on some of the tapes & can't wait to get back & start sweatin' to the oldies AGAIN!!! Thank you Richard Simmons! - posted by Terri on 1/26/2013
Sweatin' To The Oldies
Thank you for your fast service. Videos arrived sooner than expected and in good condition. I watched Richard Simmons many years ago and at my age of 83 yrs (next month) I know these videos are just what I need to workout at my age. I will be starting a new routine for the new year and this should be fun again. The "icing on the cake" so to speak is the great music that brings back memories of younger and happier times. - posted by Ann on 12/27/2012

Work it !!
Love dancin' with R Simmons. Gets my heart rate up and love the oldies songs. Can put DVD on when I can"t go outside. So much fun, even my boyfriend is kicking up his heels. - posted by sheila on 11/29/2012
Fun music
I like the music but don't feel like he guides you through the steps very well. Its hard to follow. - posted by Lynn on 10/26/2012
Good workout piece
I like this five DVD set. At first, the changes seem to be cued too slowly, but as long as you keep moving to the music and watching for the changes, you will learn to do what the group is doing. I use several different DVD based routines including stepping, strength training, yoga, etc. I've added this DVD set into my personal exercise routine because variety seems to help me keep going and stay motivated. Since I'm now 60 years old and grew up with this music, this DVD set brings back lively memories while I'm sweating. - posted by Lucy on 10/18/2012
So Much Fun
Ever get in an exercise rut? I ran a marathon and I've done every type of exercise known to man. I was burned out. I had two choices: A) Stop working out for a while B) Find something fun and just enjoy moving my body. I chose B and I'm glad I did. These videos are a blast! Sure, Richard takes some getting use to but no one motivates like Richard and the people in his videos. Buy it. Move your body and get an endorphin high. Love it! - posted by Cindi on 9/13/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Narrow screen
X
When played on a widescreen TV, this program will show black bars on the left and right sides. On an older 4x3 ratio TV, it will fill the entire screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
