Certified instructor description: Led by Kimberly Spreen, it blends familiar weight-room-style moves into creative body-sculpting combos. You get six complete 5 to 16-minute segments, each focused on a specific body area (this programmable DVD lets you play them in any sequence). The diversity within each segment is huge. You’ll rotate through varying movements, tempos, angles, sequences and modifications (this is not just a series of 16-rep sets). You’ll also maximize the effectiveness with matched pairs of complementary exercises (e.g. a “tricep kickback” followed by a “rear deltoid raise” keeps both muscle groups continuously engaged). Clear, friendly cuing. Beautiful outdoor setting. Requires 3 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2007. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Moderate full-body toning
Good workout for those days you don't want a lot of aerobics, but want to use the entire body. - posted by Michelle on 12/16/2010
love this - and came in prejudiced against it
I generally view offerings from magazines as questionable; just sidelines and potential profit center for publications, not particularly well made. While the production vales are not superb here, KS is a GREAT instructor, cheerful & motivating w/o excess perkiness, and a warm unscreechy voice, with excellent cuing skills as well. I like the menu options here, and that you do have the option of doing short targeted sets on days when you are too busy but still want a token work-out. However, I usually do the whole thing, and find it doable but challenging. I swap out heavier weights for some of the sections, like back & chest. I'm a solid intermediate, 58 years old, just to know where the opinion's coming from. - posted by crescent on 11/26/2010
Too easy & not enough ab work, but love Kimberly Spreen
I agree with Gayle that the segments in this workout are just too short. In order to feel I'd had a decent amount of toning I had to complete the ENTIRE DVD, which required more of my time than I'd wanted to spend soley on toning. I purchased this because I enjoy Kimberly's instruction style & personality and I have no qualms with that aspect of this DVD, but a bit on the backup exercisers though...The blonde was great and really seemed to be enjoying working out with Kimberly, but the brunette lady with the white top bothered me to the point of distraction. Essentially the two main reasons I like Kimberly: she has a sincere, friendly style, and her figure is in great shape but not too overly toned or bulky. (In my opinion, too many female fitness instructors have an overly masculine physique, and my intent is to tone-up while maintaining a female curvaceous figure.) I am just getting back to working out after many years spent sedentary and even I found this too easy and also incomplete--segments too short to be thorough & not enough ab work for my taste. So after completing this workout, and another for cardio, I still had to complete yet another for ab work. - posted by DB on 10/30/2010
Warmup scary and the rest disappointing
I am a solid intermediate. I found several things very wrong with this workout. 1) The warmup is very fast, way too fast, and the moves awkward, not flowing (like a car engine going from 0-100 mph in 5 seconds, then making zig zag turns...). Each segment, targeting different body areas, is too short. Just when you start feeling like you're working a specific area, the segment is over. However, the total body segment is pretty good. I returned this tape because I did my own warmup and got frustrated by the short segments. - posted by Gayle on 10/28/2010
The workouts are really different
Hi, Its the first time I purchase a DVD with this instructor. I loved the workouts because some moves were very different and very effective. I was pretty tired out after doing all of it. I am not crazy about Kimberly Spreen as an instructor but it gave me a good solid workout and the view is very nice. - posted by LOLA on 7/14/2010
Excellent
Wow! I am in my fifties and consider myself an intermediate level. This gave me a fantastic workout with a cardio effect as well as toning. Kimberley is a fantastic instructor and I want to find more of her workouts. Her explanations are so clear and easy to understand that you can get it right the first time you do it, even on moves that are more unusual. After doing the first sections, I was already well worked out, and could only muster 3 lb. weights for the final Total Body segment, which moves so quickly I'm not sure you could use anything heavier. The Total Body segment is awesome; I really got a good sweat. Some of the exercises in this workout dvd go too fast to use heavier weights for biceps, but on some you can switch out the weights if you have them very close at hand. The instructor is fabulous, the scenery is a very nice change of pace, and I love this workout! - posted by Veronica on 1/13/2010
Good work out !!!
I am huge into Cathe F. and Jari Love, and this was a wonderful change of pace !!!!!!!!!!! Up your weights a little helps make this dvd become more advanced. I agree with one statement that I thought their is a large amount of shoulder work. But overall it is a fluid, fast- paced, creative with a nice combination of creative movements, transitions, views, description and cuing keeps this fast paced dvd a nice variety to my collection. I think this DVD can be adapted to any workout level. - posted by Shelly on 4/27/2009
Good beginner/intermediate workout
The workout was pretty good - but it wasn't at all challenging to me. I think there's a nice diversity of routines available, and I LOVE the mix & match option. But I'm not sure this was an intermediate workout. I didn't break a sweat at all and felt almost nothing the next day. - posted by Janice on 4/11/2009
great workout
not the most difficult but you def feel it the next day. - posted by melissa on 10/15/2008
Adaptable and Well-balanced
This video allows building your own workout from various segments, which is great for me. When I'm really short of time, there is an all-over toning segment, which, combined with the warm-up segment, seems the best possible use of twenty minutes for toning. I also appreciate the use of combination moves, and the instructor's emphasis on good form and properly-focused ("mind in the muscle")moves. - posted by Christine on 4/6/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
