Time graph for Star Trainers: Abs
Five different ways to tone your abs -- and back -- in just 10 minutes. Each workout features a different “star” instructor teaching their favorite routines (proven, no-nonsense exericses). Their technique and cuing is superb -- Rob Glick, Gay Gasper, Violet Zaki, Kimberly Spreen and Kendell Hogan have over 50 years of teaching experience. The exercises range rom gym-style crunches and bicycles to Pilates-type planks and roll-ups (plus some innovative standing routines, like “standing lunges with a rotation”). But even the same move seems new when it’s demonstrated by a different personality using a different variation (e.g. standard ab crunches, pulsed crunches, straight-leg ab crunches). 3 to 5 lb. dumbbells are optional in Kendell’s segment. ©2007. DVD has: Region 1.

Star Trainers: Abs

A Nice Surprise
I was very happy with this DVD. There was a lot of variety, both in the routines and in the approach of the instructors. The instructors were really excellent, without any annoying quirks (other than shilling for Propel water, which took up maybe 25 seconds total on the whole DVD, which I can live with). The music was pleasant enough, the cuing was great, and I felt as if I were getting a pretty good, although not a killer, workout. I actually look forward to this one! - posted by Cecily on 4/17/2008
A Must Have Abdominal DVD!!
As a fitness professional who is very conditioned and has been performing and teaching abdominal exercises for several years, I was really happy with this DVD. I can honestly say that this is the best abdominal DVD I have purchased since Tamilee Webb’s “I Want Those Abs.” I was so impressed with the professionalism and the creativity of the instructors…even advanced exercisers will feel a serious burn during this workout! The best instructors by far are Rob, Gay, and Kimberly. Rob’s routine was amazing from start to end. He really hit the abdominal cavity hard from all angles, and he included some fun isometrics for a great burn and he finished strong with back extensions and breast strokes for overall balance. Very nice. Gay was also all business from beginning to end. Her attitude was so fun and encouraging, and she really targets your obliques in her routine. She has some really fun oblique combinations (but they do require some coordination, so if you’re not so coordinated beware!) Gay finishes strong too with some triceps push-up’s/plank combinations. Perfect. Kimberly’s was the toughest by far. She begins with a bent knee/leg extension oblique crunch (ouch!!) Then it’s on to some Pilates style roll down’s/up’s with oblique rotations. It’s tough, but she keeps you motivated and moving, she’s really great. Violet and Kendell’s routines were just mediocre, not impressive but not terrible either. What turned me off about Kendell was that he used weights but did not suggest what poundage to use…not good, especially for beginners. And though he incorporates weights in his workout, the exercises were not challenging enough to utilize the weights to their fullest potential. Violet’s routine was just kind of same old, same old for me. Though she’s a good instructor, her routine was pretty standard and easy to complete. I would recommend these last two sessions for beginners or on your lighter abdominal workout days. Overall, I was very happy and impressed with this DVD and would recommend it to everyone that I know. I will use this DVD for a very long time. - posted by May on 4/10/2008
Good Variety
This DVD is perfect if you are looking for some solid ab routines that take only 10 minutes. I do a different program everyday after a run and I am very satisfied. The instructors are very clear and I especially like the variety of the workouts. - posted by Lori on 3/28/2008
GREAT!
I purchased this to focus purely on abs since some abdominal segments are not long enough and i must say i love it. you can really feel it working and you will get sore first using it which is a good thing. I now have soemthing to combine with my cardio or strength training and speed up results. Thanks Star Trainers! - posted by ANNA on 3/6/2008
An Easy Workout
This is an okay DVD. It is quick, but not very challenging. Perfect if you are looking for something to do when you don't want an intense workout, or if you are just starting out. I did enjoy all the instructors and the variety. - posted by Lee on 2/9/2008
Tough ab workouts
I thought this was a great ab dvd. I love the fact that you have five segements to choose from...it gives it variety. I think each segment was challenging and effective. - posted by Lisa on 1/21/2008
Effective Ab Work
I really enjoyed the different ab workouts on this program. I doubled a couple of them up to get a better burn, but you could easily feel the heat after one segment. There weren't any complicated moves. I found that I liked Robs and Kendell's the best, but Gay's was also pretty focused and tough. I also added weights with certain segments. Overall, it is worth the investment. If you are advanced, add some ankle weights or a medicine ball. - posted by fitnessangel on 1/18/2008
Lots of variety!
I'm enjoying the variety in this DVD - it's programable too, which is always a bonus. - posted by RedPanda on 1/17/2008
I hate ab work, but really like this !
Ok, I have to say I am really in love with all of the Star Trainers DVDs. I'm in physical therapy and one thing that has been found is that my abs are too weak. I hate ab work and is evident when in PT, so I got this to add to what I'm doing in PT. I can take 10 minutes and these are challening enough for me. They are cued well and there's alot of variety on the DVD. That said, the ab work isn't anything new that isn't already found on alot of other DVDs. Also, the reason for the propel commercials is that these workouts were originally available "on demand" for TV, and the makers of propel sponsored these workouts. So, that's why the commercial aspect to it. It really couldn't be edited out without making the workout appear choppy. Besides, it's nice to have a built in water break. This is definitely worth getting, even if (maybe especially if) you hate ab work. - posted by Melissa S. on 1/11/2008
A Good Ab Workout
I like this video. I do all 5 of the workouts at once. It is a nice change to have 5 different instructors doing 5 different workouts. - posted by Tanya on 1/11/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
