Certified instructor description: The second of four progressively more challenging programs — it’s a great introduction to Pilates. Each workout in this four-video series primarily highlights the same ab-focused moves. Each program’s level is precisely defined and instructed (so you can truly internalize the proper Pilates technique and you can smoothly advance as your technique improves). This Level 2 video increases the intensity with a slightly faster pace and more challenging positions than Moira’s Level 1 workout (while including multi-dimensional variations — moving left-right as well as back-front). Moira Merrithew has been teaching Pilates for 12 years. She’s an exceptionally meticulous, patient instructor who uses easy-to-understand cues and seems to anticipate common problems (and knows exactly how to avoid them). ©2002. DVD has: Chapter menus, Music only option.

Stott Pilates: Level 2 Firm Fit

excellent cueing and form
I got this dvd a while a go and realized I'd never done a review. I had a beginner dvd from Mari Winsor and thought I was ready for something more intermediate but I had really not advanced enough for this tape although I can do more of it than I use to so I am progressing-just very slowly. With that being said, Moira, in my opinion, has truly excellent cueing and instruction and her focus on the breath is very important and well done. The exercises are demonstrated by Natalia Haigler whose form is near perfect! Moira states in her intro that her focus is on "quality not quantity" and I believe she accomplishes this in this dvd. I would recommend for a true intermediate...but if you are a real beginner, I'd look into other dvd's rated for beginner as oppose to beginner/intermediate. - posted by katie on 10/31/2010
Enjoyable
I'm new to Pilates after a back injury led me to Physical Therapy. My Therapist recommended Stott Pilates DVDs which is what her care plan consisted of. I was amazed at how much strength I gained in my core with her plan and now using this DVD has helped me on my own. This DVD flows well and there is good cuing on proper technique without being distracting. I like the results I'm getting with this workout and I also enjoy that I don't have to sweat for hours or do countless reps to see results. This workout is a keeper in my DVD library - posted by Andrea on 7/22/2010
Very good!
I am not in the best shape, but am familiar with pilates. I did this workout for the first time this morning and it is a great way to wake up! Moira's voice is very soothing and encouraging. She reminds you to breath (which I do sometimes forget). For me as an intermediate exerciser, I was sweating. I did have to modify some of the exercises. - posted by Traci on 6/28/2010
Stott is Best
I have used a number of different Pilates style workout's and absolutely found Stott to be the best. It keeps the closest to Joseph Pilates's original goal: proper beathing and posture in combination with developing strength for a heathier body. It may not demand many repetitions or have someone yelling to keep going but I have found Moira Stott's workouts to be an ideal way to peacefully, develope an amazing toned body that I am very proud of. I could not recommend another series more. - posted by Lesley on 6/14/2008
Very good!
I really like this pilates video because Moira reminds you about form and when to breathe in and out. Moira has good cueing, and the workout flows really nicely so the time passes quickly. - posted by on 6/18/2007

I prefer Winsor
I'd done some Winsor tapes but heard great things about Stott, so decided to try this one. I think it's a very personal thing as to whether you like Winsor or Stott, but I found Stott to be too slow, and I thought she switched abruptly to the more difficult exercises without any warning. I prefer the more level pace of Winsor (and I appreciate her talking between moves, gives me a tiny break!). Also, as a regular exerciser (but not a regular Pilates user) I didn't find this one challenging enough, but that's probably my own fault. - posted by Ellie on 3/27/2007
Wonderful instruction, can't believe it got negative reviews!
I am shocked there are negative reviews for this one. Moira Stott instructs the viewers how to safely do each exercises and really reminds us throughout the routine on when to breath in and out. I first started doing pilates with Winsor Pilates but after I learned the exercises it got really annoying at how much she talks in between exercises. I had to keep my remote next to me so I could fast forward to the next exercise. I then decided to find another instructor and found Stott Pilates and it was just what I was looking for! The pace is great with no annoying waiting in between exercises. If you are brand new to Pilates then definitely start with the 1st DVD in this series, "The Secret to Flat Abs". For those who know some of the basic pilates exercises but need more practice then you could get away with starting with this one. - posted by Ameera on 7/15/2006
Pretty Good
I tried this once and was impressed. I needed a change/boost to my workout. Time went by fast too. I love pilates and yoga and have noticed a leaner physique over the past couple of years and I went down another dress size with cardio of course. Will definitely purchase another Stott Pilates video!!! - posted by Brie on 10/30/2005
Not very good
I was also disappointed in the video, and did not get anything out of it. I do not know how it can be a staff favorite !!! - posted by on 10/11/2005
Essential Intermediate Pilates
I have to disagree with the first review; I think this Stott video is excellent in every way. If you are a true intermediate Pilates exerciser, this is the video for you. I found the cueing to be superb with Moria Stott (as usual), and the quality and production of this video is excellent. The exercises are presented in a fabulous progression, so you begin moving pretty slow and by the end you've brought your heart rate up fairly well. There are some excellent intermediate exercises, which include the rollover, neck pull, open leg rocker (to name a few), and Stott makes sure to finish strong with push-ups. If you are looking for a bunch of fancy gimmicks, with an overrated instructor, I would then look into the Windsor Pilates videos. - posted by May-Onome on 11/24/2004

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
