Certified instructor description: It’s the most intense water workout available — a challenging interval program for athletes and advanced water exercisers. The beginning section features three different interval styles: aerobics, anaerobics and toning (faster/slower cardio and muscle toning segments). Then you’ll move into high-intensity strength training, including fast-paced plyometric jumps and water paddle routines (structured to let you set your own workout pace). The audio is a CD. ©2004. DVD has: Chapter menus, Music only option.

Strength & Power with audio CD

very good choreography for younger group
I purchased this dvd to have a better idea to teach aqua class, this dvd is geared more toward the younger participant and I think it is excellent. - posted by tina on 2/3/2011
Love this workout
Good workout, you control intensity, easy to follow athletic style I take a portable DVD player out to my above ground pool and before I know it I have gotten a great workout with out suffering heat related discomfort. I have 4 of Karen's pool workouts, she's a great instructor. - posted by Barb on 8/6/2010
Very good combo of cardio and strength training
I am a new aquafit instructor and I found this video helped give me a lot of new ideas. The cardio section is very good, although there were lots of times when the instructor would stand stationary in a squat or lunge position while doing arm movements and I prefer to keep the legs moving. There is a very good "power paddle" section in this video as well. I'm not totally sure it's worth $30 though... - posted by Sarah on 6/23/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Music only option
X
This feature allows you to play only the music, without any cuing (after you’ve learned the movements and you just want to do the workout without listening to the instruction).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Specialty: Swimming Pool
X
Videos especially designed for swimming pool aqua workouts.
