Certified instructor description:
Five ultra-high-energy Tae Bo workouts (in fact, Billy seems especially energetic and motivating in this series). He’s “amped up” his Tae Bo effectiveness with a collapsible weighted bar. The bar is perfect for kickboxing because it never restricts your freedom of movement. The bar weighs 3 lbs. and smoothly extends from 24 to 30 inches. At 24", you’ll use it to boost intensity as you increase control (e.g. during a jab sequence, you can’t just fling your arms around). At 30", it’s like a barbell — the ideal length for moves like “helicopters,” lateral raises and side leg lifts. All five workouts use the bar. “Jump Start,” with its basic, easy-to-follow movements, is a great place to begin. “Fat Burn Accelerator” features intervals — alternating segments of cardio and muscle toning. “Full Throttle” is designed to simply blast calories with flat-out, full-speed action. “Core Express” and “Live in LA” come on one DVD. “Core Express” is compact-but-tough; it blends aerobics and body-sculpting. “Live in LA” will keep you motivated with varied exercises and a passionate, exuberant class. If you’re new to Tae Bo, each DVD has a 14-minute Tae Bo tutorial. This set includes a Success Guide booklet and 7 days of vitamins. ©2007. To see the 7-workout Deluxe set, click here.

Tae Bo: Amped Basic (with Amplifier Bar)

Not Great
These DVDs are definitely not for an advanced exerciser. I've been working out 6 days a week for 9 months and these DVDs were so easy. I didn't sweat, I didn't get out of breath, and after 50 minutes I didn't feel like I worked out at all. Definitely disappointed. Will save for lighter days. - posted by KC on 11/30/2011
Tae Bo Workouts Are Excellent
I'm one of those guys that liked workouts that get results. I decided to give Tae Bo a shot to try something different. I enjoy them. I have the Amped and Bootcamp series. Bootcamp Ulitmate is the hardest out of all of them in my opinion. But the Amped series is good too. I read someone say that all the workouts are the same. Not true. I've also read someone say that Billy Blanks only works out one side of the body and not the other. Again, not true. Oftentimes he will do an exercise on one side, and then do the same exercise on the other side 5 minutes later to mix things up. There are also diet guides that come with the programs..Amped for sure has one I know. I mainly use Tae Bo as a maintenance program, and it works very well. I've seen results from using it. If you take the time to learn the moves, do them RIGHT, you will get a good workout. I don't think it's boring myself. If you're looking for something that you will get results with, give it a try. - posted by Norm on 12/18/2010
Billy Blanks is a workout genius!
If I had to narrow it down to one thing I love most about the Amped Collection, I must say its the Rockin' Abs Workout. In the first couple of weeks, there were no major changes in my abs but after getting the moves down right and actually listening to what Billy instructed, every time I did Rockin' Abs, I always saw results! Still am, good ones too. Billy tackles the Abs like no other workout video I've seen before; Julian Michael, P90X, and all those other quirky dance workout videos too. I've tried them, they are decent but like I said Billy Blanks is a genius! I love love his videos, his words of motivation, and his passion-driven mindset! He's been doing this for so long now; you know he's all in! I've decided to make him my handy personal trainer for life. He's never let me down. - posted by Michelle on 10/5/2010
Use it for fatburn
I do not agree with all those bad reviews! You should use this workout for the right purpose. You shouldn't use it for muscle toning, its not the right stuff for that. The bar isn't that heavy and Billy doesn't do a lot of toning anyway. You won't have a lot of burn. But he does use some good interval training which makes your hart rate go way up. So for fat burning and condition training, Tae Bo Amped, especially the Fat Burning Accelerator and Full Throttle videos, are great! - posted by Stanly on 9/9/2010
Didn't get my heart rate up enough
I love Tae Bo: Fat Blasting Cardio & Total Body Fat Blaster workouts -- even without using the Billy Bands, they really get your heart rate up for a great calorie burning workout. But none of the Amped workouts got my heart rate up enough to give me much of a workout. - posted by Valerie on 7/6/2010
The BEST workout I've used....
I was always a runner, and decided I needed to mix things up a little bit because I was starting to get bored and hurting my shins, feet and I had even torn a tendon on the bottom of my foot. When I started using Billy, I bought a 5$ DVD at a local store. I was absolutely certain this was the workout for me. As time when on, I bought 2 other DVDS and then discovered the Amp workout. I was sore for weeks, but kept pushing myself to do more. I think he is very motivating and keeps me wanting more. I now own 14 Billy Blanks DVD's and have all my friends doing his workout as well. My coordination and balance has improved and also my energy level is higher. Whoever says this workout is a "joke" obviously can't finish the workout or has no patience. All I have to say is, I have gotten the results I wanted, and a new hobby with Billy's workouts. If Only I could be in one of his classes and meet him personally. And you've got to love Shelly, too!!!! - posted by Sherrie on 6/9/2010
Awesome Product...Best One That I Have Tried
I just bought this product last night and I finished my first video and it was awesome. I am usually tired after a workout but this just kept me wanting to do more. I am looking forward to the results that this is going to give me I am hoping to lose about 35 pounds. I am currently at 200 pounds and I am 5'6" so my target weight is 165.I hope you go and purchase this it's awesome. - posted by Erica on 7/2/2009
Tried something new
I have been working out with Hip Hop Abs, that as well is a great workout, but with Tae Bo Apmed, I have notice I sweat more and my balance is getting better. At first I was having problems with the bar staying locked, so yes I was having to stop the workout to fix the bar, but that's what happens when learning a new workout but I learned how to keep it locked. I agree if you have problems with the bar use the 1-2 or 3lb weights. Same results. I'm in my 3rd week and really enjoying the workout. I don't feel I have wasted my money. Remember, learning something new or getting results don't happen over night. Just keep a positive mind. - posted by nylady66 on 12/18/2008
Billy rocks out!!!
If you can knock out this video with your firm stick with no twigs and use great form and count out loud I guarantee tha you will get a great toning cardio buring workout. I am so turned back on to the extreme cardio Billy provides I just can't understand the negetive reviews. This is a fun workout. Make sure you do all the moves like instructed and hold your legs and core firmly in place. My abs are looking so much more defined and my strength is totally gaining. By holding the lower body and core rigid my strength is growing and my balance improving. - posted by tina on 9/28/2008
Not so great...
When I saw this package, I thought I was gonna be completely satisfied. The amplifier is annoying! Like everyone else said, it does not stay in place, so you can't do the moves without having to stop and fix it. I'm not sure how Billy's amplifier (along with the whole crew) stays in place so nicely?!?!? The first 3 videos have the same moves just in different order and different number of sets. The core express was ok because it really does work your abs, and the live in LA was the only one I ended up enjoying. (only because it incorporates upper/lower body strength training with the amplifier). - posted by RocioLulu on 7/14/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
sample time graph
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
