Certified instructor description: For the first time ever, Billy Blanks uses a step and dumbbells in a Tae Bo workout. It’s a combination that maximizes variety and intensity as it maintains Tae Bo’s legendary energy and effectiveness. The workout begins with traditional non-step jabs, punches and kicks (Billy calls it a “warm-up,” but you’ll definitely be burning fat). Then he integrates the step — basic, easy-to-follow up-downs, knee lifts and V-steps. That’s followed by a tough total-body toning segment. It ranges from classic bicep curls and squats to very challenging “double-time jumping jacks holding dumbbells” and multi-muscle-group “on-off step lunge, overhead press, ab contraction” combos. Requires 1 to 3 lb. dumbbells (Tae Bo weighted balls will also work). ©2004.

Tae Bo Extreme

Billy is Great!!!
I love everything about Billy's workout I have about 20 DVD'S and all are my favorites. He is very challenging and I really get the best workout with Billy's DVD. I can't complain...I don't see why others will find it a problem. They must not be doing something right. Thanks Billy and Shelley. - posted by Yolanda on 9/13/2011
Never been better
I LOVE BILLY, he is the best instructor a man can get... this DVD and other DVD's helped me loosing weight after my baby birth,, specially i am a very bussy mom and got no time to hit the gym....I LOVE YOU COLLAGEVIDEO - posted by Rima on 5/24/2010
Pretty boring but picked up at the end
I was pretty disappointed with this workout. I was really looking forward to a "new" Tae-bo. The warm-up was too slow and the music was awful. The aerobics section was the same Tae-bo moves but much slower. The step section was even slower and boring. I didn't use a step but I'm not sure it would have made too much of a difference. I was sweating, but I think it was the hot room, not because my heart rate was up. The toning section was what saved this workout. I used 5 pound weights which I think was a good weight for the speed of the movements. The ending seemed thrown together to fill up time. Billy has the same upbeat and motivating personality as always and sings through most of the toning section, which made it easier to get through. Overall, I think this workout could have been much better with a good aerobics section. If you want a real "extreme" Tae-bo, try Advanced Get Ripped II or Tae bo Ultimate. - posted by Kate on 4/26/2009
YUCK!
I thought I would at least sweat a bunch, which I did not. I guess if you are a huge Billy fan, which I am not, you may be able to stomach this one. It is like watching Billy on 10 cups of coffee. He loses count often, does one side and forgets the other, and has zero originality with the steps. He made the basic step up step down seem like , whoa, slow down and practice everyone! Then, he threw in some punches with it and called it Tae Bo. - posted by Nadine on 3/22/2009
Love it!
This was actually the first Tae Bo video I ever purchased - and I immediately ordered three others after doing this one! Billy Blanks may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I found his personality rather addictive, and the workout to be very intense yet fun. I highly recommend this dvd if you're looking to be a sweaty mess! - posted by N on 11/27/2008
Not for me...
I remember doing Billy Blank's Tae Bo in high school when it first came out. I remember it being fun and challanging. I no longer have those tapes, so I tried this one. I found incredibly boring! It was not nearly as challenging as Jari Love or Jillian Michaels. Near the end, sweaty Shelly jumps on top of sweaty Billy for some disgusting push-ups. - posted by Pam on 11/15/2008
***** Loved it!
I am a fitness instructor, but I don't teach kickboxing classes. I read a few comments before purchasing the video and decided to try it. I wanted a tough Billy Blanks kickboxing work-out. It was a tough work-out and more, but very very easy to follow. I loved it and really got a good sweat. I am also surprised this isn't a "Staff Favorite". - posted by Diana on 6/4/2008
LOVE THIS ONE!!!
I have alot of Tae Bo videos and this is one of the greatest. Concentrate on your form and you will see results quickly! I do this at least twice a week!! - posted by Wendy on 5/26/2008
Overall great workout
I LOVED this workout and I always feel so good after doing Billy's workouts! They energize me, make feel upbeat and positive, and yet I can feel that my muscles have been toned and defined. I loved the toning section and liked doing lighter weight (I used 3 lbs.) with higher reps for a change. I did sweat through the cardio portion and had a lot of fun doing it. Overall terrific DVD. - posted by Shelley on 4/29/2008
Fun Taebo Workout!
This workout received some bad reviews, but I decided to try it just because I love most Taebo workouts. I actually found this to be a very good workout. I used an 8-10 inch step and 5lb dumbells. Also, during the break parts (walk in place), I continued to go up and down on the step (fast) for a little more cardio. - posted by N.S. on 2/5/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
sample time graph
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Step aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The step aerobics segments involve stepping up and down on a platform. The moves range from simple stepping to more choreographed exercises. These segments require a step bench platform. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
