Certified instructor description: A true back-to-the-basics Tae Bo workout. You get the excitement, energy and enthusiasm that originally made Tae Bo a global phenomenon. The punches and jabs engage your core as they shape your shoulders. The kicks raise your heart rate as they tone your legs and buttocks. The program is well-planned and carefully taught, with very smooth transitions. Billy slows down just enough to demo the combo, then quickly brings it up to tempo and pours on the reps (and the intensity). The first section is pure cardio; the second includes some isometric-style toning intervals. DVD has a 12-minute Tae Bo tutorial. ©2010. DVD has: Wide screen.

Tae Bo: This is Tae Bo

Chatting
I have been using this a couple times a week for a month now. I hate all the chatting so I mute it and follow along. I agree with the sales pitch at the end. I like the Ultimate Tae Bo better and feel it's a more intense workout. - posted by Ruth on 4/11/2012
Welcome Back
I have been a fan of Tae Bo for several years, but lately Billy and the gang seemed to have passed me by. This return to basic Tae Bo is most welcome. I am in my mid 50s. I workout on the intermediate to intermediate/advance level. From the start this routine is set to a rapid pace. Not one second is wasted. There is a fairly intense arm workout toward the end of the routine. This workout elevates the heart, tones the muscles and works with balance without pounding the joints. The cool down is more of a sales pitch rather than a cool down. This is a routine that will now be included in my workout rotation. - posted by Bonnie on 3/11/2012
Overweight and Out of Shape
Great video and using muscles I didn't know even existed. Good stuff in this one. - posted by Jan on 3/1/2012
Original user
I am an original Tae Bo user and enjoyed this updated workout. It is more fluid than the advanced version of several years ago. A couple of awkward spots but my heart was pumping. My only complaint - please mute Shelly. Her comments are annoying and distracting. - posted by Donna on 2/25/2012
I'll admit...
I really, really tried to like this. I've been a fan of Billy Blanks since his workouts first appeared on VHS; I would mimic my mom as she did his workouts in our old living room. I don't doubt that the workout is effective nor do I doubt Blanks' knowledge. I have tremendous respect for him. That said, I just couldn't get into it. I barely broke a sweat, and this was me going as intense as I could-- and just to put things in context, I have lung problems and have been through two treatments of chemo. I thought this would be something I could modify and work through at my own pace until I could follow their tempo. I didn't really expect a dread factor. To be fair to the workout, I did it three times. I'm more than willing to try some of his other new DVDs and I usually agree with the ratings on this site, but this one is going back. I'm glad this has been a fit for other people; I might just be the odd (wo)man out this time. - posted by Nicole on 1/25/2012

the tempo is a little fast but the workout is very good and he is a fantastic motivator. Thank you. - posted by Shirley on 1/24/2012
new to Tae Bo
I have been wanting to try Tae Bo. I am so glad I did. This is a great workout. The moves are broken down for you to understand and keep up. I plan to use this again and again. - posted by Lee Ann on 11/16/2011
Great Taebo Workout!!!
This is a great DVD. Everytime I press play on this DVD, I know that I'm doing something good for myself. Its a very fun workout, and makes you sweat like crazy. Billy Blanks is a great motivator, its like he's also talking to you as if you were there too, to help you with the workout! I'm definitely going to keep doing this video, as a matter of fact, I'm gonna go do it right now! - posted by Laura on 9/5/2011
Classic, effective Tae Bo
Those familiar with Tae Bo may appreciate Billy's returning to his Tae Bo roots. I do. This is a fun, energetic workout that is well cued (Billy's come a long way over the years) with choreography that is pretty straightforward. The rep counting in sets of 8 does not bother me at all. I disagree with the few reviewers who felt that the workout does not provide a good cardio workout. It certainly does if you push yourself. I also like to wear 1 pound wrist weights while doing this one. I am a 41 year-old high intermediate/advanced exerciser who works out 6-7 days per week, and I will definitely continue to use this DVD. - posted by Jennifer B. on 9/1/2011
Great Old Style Billy in New and Fabulous Workouts
Classic Billy Blanks that we can now use in our travels where tape players are no longer available. We were never able to find the early workouts on CD's but these fit the bill and more! He has taken the tried and true TaeBo and made it thoroughly modern Millie! We love it. - posted by Berie on 8/9/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Wide screen
X
The program fully fills a wide-screen television screen. Note: These videos will display black bars at the top and bottom on a traditional 4 x 3 ratio TV screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
