Time graph for Tai Chi for Seniors
More than just tai chi, you’ll also learn first-thing-in-the-morning stretches, self-massage and acupressure. Mark Johnson begins with 23 minutes of detailed information on techniques to lessen high blood pressure, improve arthritis, strengthen your immune system and reduce insomnia. Then, it’s a 4-minute, very rejuvenating “follow along” Tai Chi workout. That’s followed by 30 minutes of careful instruction on the moves used in that workout -- ten gentle tai chi moves (each with a focus on healing and regeneration, not martial arts). Mark’s approach is low-key and non-intimidating. ©1991.

Tai Chi for Seniors

Easy to follow low key instruction
Mark does a great job of demonstrating each move and showing the common mistakes. This tape will not give you cardio fitness or strength. However, it will give you a great introduction to Qi Gong or Tai Chi. However, it's much more of a learning tape than a work out. I enjoyed the author's personality. One of the goals of tai chi is to be gentle yet focused. I think the author's teaching conveys this spirit. I found it helpful to cultivate this accepting yet focused attention in my sports competition. I advise playing the demo tape to see if you like his teaching style. I found it inspiring and well worth the money. - posted by Diana on 3/1/2008
not worth the money
I am 66 and have been taking a tai chi class for a year. I wanted a video I could follow along with at home. I watched this video once and discarded it. The instructor talks too much and often is difficult to watch and follow along. You spend a lot of time starting and stopping while he talks. Boring and little exercise involved. A waste of money! - posted by Janet on 6/3/2007

Improve your health! Easily connect your mind/body/spirit!
I am 57 and have happily used the VHS for 6 years. Instruction is easy to follow. Mark's knowledge of the history and the "whys" of the moves is interesting. You will feel increased circulation, better balance and a happier inner self. I just found and ordered the DVD! - posted by Cynthia Stead on 9/6/2006

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
