Certified instructor description: Two very different workouts. The first is led by Rodney Yee with Mariel Hemingway. It features basic yoga poses plus a variety of “awakening” moves. This program's overall attitude is “laid back” and not too serious; it focuses on boosting energy and having fun (e.g. “that move makes me feel like a kid again”). The second program is led by Cameron Shayne. It’s more “traditional” with flowing vinyassas that include challenging twists and bends. Cameron’s attitude is also more traditional; he emphasizes alignment, form and technique. The DVD has a 6-minute tutorial showing 10 yoga poses. ©2009. Note: re-edited from videos originally released in 2005 and 2006.

Ten Zen Tummy Toners |
A misleading title but good yoga practices |
| I am a fan of Rodney Yee's yoga workouts, and so it pains me to write a less than glowing review. But this is an example of why it is counter-productive to promote a product in a way that doesn't match the product's reality. If this dvd had been promoted as two short, complete yoga practices led by two instructors who really know their stuff, I think I would have rated it at four or five stars, because it does deliver on that description. But, frankly, what I expected from its title, and the commentary on it, were two yoga practices with a clear and explicit emphasis on those dimensions of yoga that focused on strengthening and toning the abs. The addition of the ten poses does not deliver on this expectation. So, my view is this - buy it if you have a gap in your collection for a couple of shorter yoga practices led by good instructors. Do not buy it if what you are looking for is an ab or core workout. - posted by Susan on 3/11/2010 |
