Certified instructor description: An easy-to-follow blend of classic aerobics and simple dance. More like a party than a workout, this program is all about having fun. No dance background required — Alison Davis’ friendly, add-on cuing makes these eight-count moves totally do-able (while the “gotta move your feet” music keeps you motivated). Each 10-minute segment features a different music/dance style: club, Latin, jazz and modern. But it’s never “hardcore” dance; every section also includes a medley of familiar Firm-style classics (e.g. the Latin segment combines pliés, knee-lifts and box steps with sambas and mambos). DVD also has 25-minute premixed workout options with individual dance styles. Also titled Cardio Dance Fusion. ©2007. DVD has: 3 premixes (23 to 25-min. alternate workouts).

The Firm: Cardio Dance Express

A second opinion
Shortly after I received this DVD of Dance Fusion a year ago, I wrote a customer evaluation stating that the program was going to be difficult for non-dancers. I could not get all the body movements to coordinate after the 2nd, 3rd, or 15th trials. But I stuck with it. My original critique still stands - it is difficult to learn, goes too fast for non-dancers. Now I am getting the hang of it and improving my dance skills and coordination. It's a good aerobic workout. So if you are discouraged at first, don't give up. Advice: Train your feet first, then add in your arms, hips, body positions. Not only will it improve your fitness, but it just might turn you into a dancer! - posted by Beverly on 5/21/2012
Not dancy ENOUGH!
I actually disagree with a lot of the reviewers here; I was hoping for something dancy and fun, and found this simple and boring. I didn't like how she kept switching styles, either. You do one style of "dance" for a few minutes, then switch to another. I've noticed that a lot of workout videos these days have this "ADD" quality to them; it didn't used to be so. I guess they figure that these days people can't pay attention to one thing for more than a few minutes. I really don't like this trend! I got this video for Christmas and wanted to give it a chance, so I did it about 5 times but it just isn't enough fun or a good enough workout for me to keep doing. It was a moderate-intensity workout. BTW, I'm 35 years old, and a certified group fitness instructor who's been teaching for 13 yrs - so I guess you could say I'm more coordinated than your average person. I'm sure there are some people this workout would be great for. - posted by Jennifer on 4/21/2012
Love!
This is one of my favorite "go-to" workouts for cardio-only. I'm an intermed-adv exerciser with two left feet (who happens to love dance, haha), and when I first watched it through I laughed and told my family I'd never be able to do it. Boy was I wrong. It only took a handful of times for me to learn the routine. My favorite is the swing dance portion. Fun, fun, fun! - posted by Gwen on 3/26/2012
Confusing
This video is so fast! There was no way I was going to get all the moves down the first try. I enjoy Alison as an instructor but this was awful. The good thing is that I did the entire thing and I was breathing hard. Have to do it a couple more times to get all the moves. - posted by Carrie on 3/4/2012
Very tough!
Very complex choreography for me. I thought it was going to be more "athletic" dance. Very fast footwork. - posted by Michele on 2/11/2012
Fun Workout
I have always been a huge fan of The Firm workouts and this one did not disappoint. The music was fun and the steps were easy to learn. Allison is my favorite Firm instructor and as always, her cuing is perfect and her positive attitude keeps you motivated. I am an intermediate/advanced exerciser and I was sweating like crazy while I was doing this workout. They do have one instructor showing modifications if you want to lower the intensity of the workout. Unlike most of the The Firm workouts this one is cardio only. There is no alternating between cardio and weight training like you will find in most of their workouts. - posted by Heidi on 2/2/2012
Alison is Fantastic!
I am an avid exerciser and past instructor. I love to attend group Zumba and Bootcamp classes, but when I cannot, the Firm is always available for me. This workout is one of my favorites and I think I own most all of the Firm workouts. I work up a sweat as much as in Zumba class. The workout is fun and motivational. Excellent cueing and choreography. I love Firm philosophy of combining weights and cardio, but this is pure cardio and it is fun and fantastic. The Firm should certainly have more pure cardio workouts available like this one. - posted by Kristin on 1/25/2012
Satisfied customer
I am very pleased with this video. It has 4 different dance sets (one of which is a cool down) so you can choose to do the whole 45 minute workout or a 25 minute workout in which you choose 1 of 3 styles of dance. I am somewhat of a beginner so I only do the 25 minute workout and it really makes me sweat! She explains the moves in small steps which makes them pretty easy to follow, although some moves you need to watch a few times to really figure out. - posted by Yo on 1/5/2012
I can't keep up
Usually I love aerobics but am not loving this video quite yet. I find it too hard to keep up with and there is not enough repetition for me before we switch to a new move. - posted by Belinda on 12/28/2011
Alison is Awesome!
As an intermediate exerciser and former instructor, I really feel that this is a top video. Alison is a great instructor. This is a fun workout that will make you sweat. I wish The Firm would have more videos that are just aerobics and no weights. Alison is my favorite Firm instructor. I have recently became addicted to The Firm because of all the "pink" DVD's. I guess you could say I am a "Firm Believer." - posted by Kristin on 11/27/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
